Metastable superpositions of ortho- and para-Helium states

We analyze superpositions of ortho- and para-Helium states, considering the possible existence of stationary and metastable states in the system. In particular, the metastable superposition of 1s2s ortho and para states seems to be accessible to experimental scrutiny.

Coexistence of Quantum Theory and Special Relativity in signaling scenarios

The coexistence between Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity is usually formulated in terms of the no-signaling condition. Several authors have even suggested that this condition should be included between the basic postulates of Quantum Theory. However, there are several scenarios where signaling is, in principle, possible: based on previous results and the analysis of the relation between unitarity and signaling we present an example of a two-particle interferometric arrangement for which the dynamics is, in principle, compatible with superluminal transmission of information. This type of non-locality is not in the line of Bell's theorem, but closer in spirit to the one-particle acausality studied by Hegerfeldt and others. We analyze in this paper the meaning of this non-locality and how to preserve the coexistence of the two fundamental theories in this signaling scenario.

Second order contributions to the absorption of massive particles

Recently, in analogy with multiphoton ionization, it has been suggested that multiparticle ionization can also be induced by massive systems. We explore in this paper the possibility that multiparticle absorption processes can also take place for massive particles. To study it we consider, in a perturbative way, a model of absorption which illustrates the analogies with Glauber's scheme for photons and previous analysis on matter-waves coherence. A major advantage of this approach is that the dependence of the absorption rates on the wavefunction of the incident system can be analyzed in an explicit way. The calculations confirm the form of the second order (two-particle) contributions.

Detection of massive multi-particle beams by two-particle ionization

Multi-photon absorption is a well-known phenomenon. With atom lasers a similar process could take place for massive particles, the ionization of an atom or molecule by the successive interaction with various particles. This process would lead to multi-particle detection events for incident multi-particle beams. We show that two-particle detections would introduce a correction (proportional to the fourth power of the wavefunction modulus) to the usual one-particle detection probability (only proportional to the second power).

Compositeness effects, Pauli's principle and entanglement

We analyse some compositeness effects and their relation with entanglement. We show that the purity of a composite system increases, in the sense of the expectation values of the deviation operators, with large values of the entanglement between the components of the system. We also study the validity of Pauli's principle in composite systems. It is valid within the limits of application of the approach presented here. We also present an example of two identical fermions, one of them entangled with a distinguishable particle, where the exclusion principle cannot be applied. This result can be important in the description of open systems.

Dirac's principle in multimode interference of independent sources

The extended Dirac's principle describes the interference between different particles as an effect of the multiparticle system with itself. In this paper we present a novel example, based on the detection of particles emitted in multimode states by independent sources, which illustrates in a simple way the necessity of extending the original Dirac's criterion.
