Neutrino Dark Energy and Baryon Asymmetry from Higgs Sector

We propose a new model to explain the neutrino masses, the dark energy and the baryon asymmetry altogether. In this model, neutrinos naturally acquire small Majorana masses via type-II seesaw mechanism, while the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons associated with the neutrino mass-generation mechanism provide attractive candidates for dark energy. The baryon asymmetry of the universe is produced from the Higgs triplets decay with CP-violation.

Dark Energy and Neutrino CPT Violation

In this paper we study the dynamical CPT violation in the neutrino sector induced by the dark energy of the Universe. Specifically we consider a dark energy model where the dark energy scalar derivatively interacts with the right-handed neutrinos. This type of derivative coupling leads to a cosmological CPT violation during the evolution of the background field of the dark energy. We calculate the induced CPT violation of left-handed neutrinos and find the CPT violation produced in this way is consistent with the present experimental limit and sensitive to the future neutrino oscillation experiments, such as the neutrino factory.

Neutrino Mass and Baryon Asymmetry from Dirac Seesaw

We extend the visible content of the standard model (SM) with a hidden sector composed of three right-handed singlet neutrinos and one singlet Higgs. These extra singlets are charged under a new U(1)_X gauge symmetry while the SM particles are not. Two heavy scalar doublets are introduced to play the role of the messengers between the visible and hidden sectors. The neutrinos naturally acquire tiny Dirac masses because the ratio of weak scale over the heavy messenger masses is highly suppressed. Furthermore, the heavy messengers simultaneously generate baryon asymmetry of the universe through their out-of-equilibrium CP-violating decays.

A Minimal Type II Seesaw Model

We propose a minimal type II seesaw model by introducing only one right-handed neutrino besides the $SU(2)_{L}$ triplet Higgs to the standard model. In the usual type II seesaw models with several right-handed neutrinos, the contributions of the right-handed neutrinos and the triplet Higgs to the CP asymmetry, which stems from the decay of the lightest right-handed neutrino, are proportional to their respective contributions to the light neutrino mass matrix. However, in our minimal type II seesaw model, this CP asymmetry is just given by the one-loop vertex correction involving the triplet Higgs, even though the contribution of the triplet Higgs does not dominate the light neutrino masses. For illustration, the Fritzsch-type lepton mass matrices are considered.

Detecting dark energy in long baseline neutrino oscillations

In this paper, we discuss a possibility of studying properties of dark energy in long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We consider two types of models of neutrino dark energy. For one type of models the scalar field is taken to be quintessence-like and for the other phantom-like. In these models the scalar fields couple to the neutrinos to give rise to a spatially varying neutrino masses. We will show that the two types of models predict different behaviors of the spatial variation of the neutrino masses inside Earth and consequently result in different signals in long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments.

Earth matter density uncertainty in atmospheric neutrino oscillations

That muon neutrinos $ν_μ$ oscillating into the mixture of tau neutrinos $ν_τ$ and sterile neutrinos $ν_{s}$ has been studied to explain the atmospheric $ν_μ$ disappearance. In this scenario, the effect of Earth matter is a key to determine the fraction of $ν_{s}$. Considering that the Earth matter density has uncertainty and this uncertainty has significant effects in some neutrino oscillation cases, such as the CP violation in very long baseline neutrino oscillations and the day-night asymmetry for solar neutrinos, we study the effects caused by this uncertainty in the above atmospheric $ν_μ$ oscillation scenario. We find that this uncertainty seems to have no significant effects and that the previous fitting results need not to be modified fortunately.

Constraint on $B-L$ cosmic string from leptogenesis with degenerate neutrinos

In the early Universe, as a consequence of $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry-breaking, the so-called $B-L$ cosmic strings are expected to be produced at the breaking scale $η_{B-L}$ according to the Kibble mechanism. The decaying, collapsing closed loops of these strings can release the right-handed neutrinos, whose subsequent decay can contribute to the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU), through the "slow death"(SD) process and/or the "quick death"(QD) process. In this paper, we assume that the decay of the lightest heavy Majorana neutrinos released from the $B-L$ cosmic string loops can produce a baryon asymmetry consistent with the cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations. Considering the fact that both the neutrinoless double beta decay experiment and the cosmological data show a preference for degenerate neutrinos, we give the lower limits for the breaking scale $η_{B-L}$ with the neutrino masses $0.06 eV \leq \bar{m}=(m_{1}^{2}+m_{2}^{2}+m_{3}^{2})^{1/2} \leq 1.0 eV$, where the full possible cases of degenerate neutrinos are included. We obtain $η_{B-L}\gtrsim 3.3 \times 10^{15} GeV$, $5.3 \times 10^{15} GeV$ and $9.5 \times 10^{15} GeV$ for $\bar{m}=0.2 eV$, $0.4 eV$ and $1.0 eV$ respectively in the SD process, and find the $B-L$ cosmic string has a very small contribution to the BAU in the QD process.
