Breaking the accuracy-resource dilemma: a lightweight adaptive video inference enhancement

Existing video inference (VI) enhancement methods typically aim to improve performance by scaling up model sizes and employing sophisticated network architectures. While these approaches demonstrated state-of-the-art performance, they often overlooked the trade-off of resource efficiency and inference effectiveness, leading to inefficient resource utilization and suboptimal inference performance. To address this problem, a fuzzy controller (FC-r) is developed based on key system parameters and inference-related metrics. Guided by the FC-r, a VI enhancement framework is proposed, where the spatiotemporal correlation of targets across adjacent video frames is leveraged. Given the real-time resource conditions of the target device, the framework can dynamically switch between models of varying scales during VI. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively achieves a balance between resource utilization and inference performance.

Mutual Coupling-Aware Beamforming in Multi-User Continuous Aperture Array Systems

A mutual coupling-aware beamforming design for continuous aperture array (CAPA)-aided multi-user systems is investigated. First, a transmit coupling kernel is characterized to explicitly capture the mutual coupling effects inherent in CAPAs, based on which a mutual coupling-aware sum-rate maximization functional optimization problem is formulated. To address this problem, a kernel approximation (KA)-based weighted minimum mean-squared error (WMMSE) algorithm is developed. The optimal beamforming condition is derived within the WMMSE framework using the calculus of variations, while KA is employed to obtain a closed-form beamforming solution via wavenumber-domain Fourier transforms and Gauss-Legendre quadrature. Furthermore, the proposed framework is extended to CAPA-to-CAPA multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Finally, numerical results demonstrate that: 1) the proposed algorithm achieves improved performance compared to benchmark schemes; 2) the modeled coupling effects are physically rational, where the performance of spatially discrete arrays converges to that of CAPAs; and 3) CAPA-to-CAPA MIMO systems can achieve higher degrees of freedom when the transceivers are placed in close proximity.

Joint Beamforming and Position Optimization for Fluid RIS-aided ISAC Systems

A fluid reconfigurable intelligent surface (fRIS)-aided integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system is proposed to enhance multi-target sensing and multi-user communication. Unlike the conventional RIS, the fRIS employs movable elements with adjustable positions, offering additional spatial degrees of freedom. In this system, a joint optimization problem is formulated to minimize sensing beampattern mismatch and symbol estimation error. An algorithm based on alternating minimization is devised to handle the resultant non-convex problem, where the subproblems are solved via augmented Lagrangian method, quadratic programming, semidefinite relaxation, and majorization-minimization. A key challenge is that the element positions affect both incident and reflective channels, leading to the high-order composite objective functions. As a remedy, the high-order terms are transformed into linear and linear-difference forms by exploiting the structural characteristics of fRIS and the channels. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme over conventional RIS-aided ISAC and other benchmarks.

Optimal Waveform Design for Continuous Aperture Array (CAPA)-aided ISAC Systems

A novel continuous-aperture-array (CAPA)-aided integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) framework is proposed. Specifically, an optimal continuous ISAC waveform is designed to form a directive beampattern for multi-target sensing while suppressing the multi-user interference (MUI). To achieve the goal of optimal waveform design, the directional beampattern of CAPA is first derived based on Green's function, whereafter a reference sensing waveform is obtained through wavenumber-domain optimization. Based on the reference sensing waveform, a weighted functional programming on the tradeoff between sensing beampattern mismatch and MUI is formulated. To solve the resulting problem, an optimal CAPA-ISAC waveform structure is analytically derived using a Lagrangian-transformation and calculus-of-variations method, where the Lagrangian multiplier associated with the optimal waveform structure is determined via Bisection search. The obtained optimal waveform reveals that it is concurrently affected by the reference sensing waveform, the channel correlations and the channel-symbol correlations. Finally, numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed system and waveform design, demonstrating that CAPA can achieve significant performance gains against the ISAC designs based on conventional spatially discrete array in both sensing accuracy and communication reliability.

A Study on Privacy-Preserving Scholarship Evaluation Based on Decentralized Identity and Zero-Knowledge Proofs

Traditional centralized scholarship evaluation processes typically require students to submit detailed academic records and qualification information, which exposes them to risks of data leakage and misuse, making it difficult to simultaneously ensure privacy protection and transparent auditability. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a scholarship evaluation system based on Decentralized Identity (DID) and Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKP). The system aggregates multidimensional ZKPs off-chain, and smart contracts verify compliance with evaluation criteria without revealing raw scores or computational details. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed solution not only automates the evaluation efficiently but also maximally preserves student privacy and data integrity, offering a practical and trustworthy technical paradigm for higher education scholarship programs.

A Study of Semi-Fungible Token based Wi-Fi Access Control

Current Wi-Fi authentication methods face issues such as insufficient security, user privacy leakage, high management costs, and difficulty in billing. To address these challenges, a Wi-Fi access control solution based on blockchain smart contracts is proposed. Firstly, semi-fungible Wi-Fi tokens (SFWTs) are designed using the ERC1155 token standard as credentials for users to access Wi-Fi. Secondly, a Wi-Fi access control system based on SFWTs is developed to securely verify and manage the access rights of Wi-Fi users. Experimental results demonstrate that SFWTs, designed based on the ERC1155 standard, along with the SFWT access right verification process, can significantly reduce Wi-Fi operating costs and authentication time, effectively meeting users' needs for safe and convenient Wi-Fi access.

Joint Antenna Selection and Beamforming Design for Active RIS-aided ISAC Systems

Active reconfigurable intelligent surface (A-RIS) aided integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) system has been considered as a promising paradigm to improve spectrum efficiency. However, massive energy-hungry radio frequency (RF) chains hinder its large-scale deployment. To address this issue, an A-RIS-aided ISAC system with antenna selection (AS) is proposed in this work, where a target is sensed while multiple communication users are served with specifically selected antennas. Specifically, a cuckoo search-based scheme is first utilized to select the antennas associated with high-gain channels. Subsequently, with the properly selected antennas, the weighted sum-rate (WSR) of the system is optimized under the condition of radar probing power level, power budget for the A-RIS and transmitter. To solve the highly non-convex optimization problem, we develop an efficient algorithm based on weighted minimum mean square error (WMMSE) and fractional programming (FP). Simulation results show that the proposed AS scheme and the algorithm are effective, which reduce the number of RF chains without significant performance degradation.

Energy Efficiency Optimization in Active Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-Aided Integrated Sensing and Communication Systems

Energy efficiency (EE) is a challenging task in integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems, where high spectral efficiency and low energy consumption appear as conflicting requirements. Although passive reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has emerged as a promising technology for enhancing the EE of the ISAC system, the multiplicative fading feature hinders its effectiveness. This paper proposes the use of active RIS with its amplification gains to assist the ISAC system for EE improvement. Specifically, we formulate an EE optimization problem in an active RIS-aided ISAC system under system power budgets, considering constraints on user communication quality of service and sensing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A novel alternating optimization algorithm is developed to address the highly non-convex problem by leveraging a combination of the generalized Rayleigh quotient optimization approach, semidefinite relaxation (SDR), and the majorization-minimization (MM) framework. Furthermore, to accelerate the algorithm and reduce computational complexity, we derive a semi-closed form for eigenvalue determination. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, showcasing significant improvements in EE compared to both passive RIS and spectrum efficiency optimization cases.

Unsupervised Learning for Joint Beamforming Design in RIS-aided ISAC Systems

It is critical to design efficient beamforming in reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems for enhancing spectrum utilization. However, conventional methods often have limitations, either incurring high computational complexity due to iterative algorithms or sacrificing performance when using heuristic methods. To achieve both low complexity and high spectrum efficiency, an unsupervised learning-based beamforming design is proposed in this work. We tailor image-shaped channel samples and develop an ISAC beamforming neural network (IBF-Net) model for beamforming. By leveraging unsupervised learning, the loss function incorporates key performance metrics like sensing and communication channel correlation and sensing channel gain, eliminating the need of labeling. Simulations show that the proposed method achieves competitive performance compared to benchmarks while significantly reduces computational complexity.
