Testing the $d^{*}_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave pairing symmetry by quasiparticle interference in BiS$_{2}$-based superconductors

The quasiparticle interference (QPI) patterns in BiS$_{2}$-based superconductors are theoretically investigated by taking into account the spin-orbital coupling and assuming the recently proposed $d^{*}_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave pairing symmetry. We found two distinct scattering wave vectors whose evolution can be explained based on the evolution of the constant-energy contours. The QPI spectra presented in this paper can thus be compared with future scanning tunneling microscopy experiments to test whether the pairing symmetry is $d^{*}_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$-wave in BiS$_{2}$-based superconductors.

Probing active/passive bands by quasiparticle interference in Sr$_{2}$RuO$_{4}$

The quasiparticle interference (QPI) in Sr$_{2}$RuO$_{4}$ is theoretically studied based on two different pairing models in order to propose an experimental method to test them. For a recently proposed two-dimensional model with pairing primarily from the $γ$ band, we found clear QPI peaks evolving with energy and their locations can be determined from the tips of the constant-energy contour (CEC). On the other hand, for a former quasi-one-dimensional model with pairing on the $α$ and $β$ bands, the QPI spectra are almost dispersionless and may involve off-shell contributions to the scatterings beyond the CEC. The different behaviors of the QPI in these two models may help to resolve the controversy of active/passive bands and whether Sr$_{2}$RuO$_{4}$ is a topological superconductor.

Mixed-State Effect on the Low-Energy Spin Dynamics in Optimally-doped Iron Pnictide Superconductors

Based on a phenomenological model with $s_{\pm}$ or s-wave pairing symmetry, the mixed-state effect on the low-energy spin dynamics in optimally-doped iron pnictide superconductors is studied by solving Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. Our results of the spin susceptibility at $\mathbf{q}=\mathbf{Q}$ in the normal, superconducting and mixed states agree qualitatively with recent neutron scattering experiments. We also propose that the field-induced intensity change shows different behaviors between the $s_{\pm}$ and s-wave symmetries in both momentum and real space, thus it can be used to distinguish these two pairing symmetries.

Theory of Mixed-State Effect on Quasiparticle Interference in Iron-based Superconductors

Based on a phenomenological model with $s_{\pm}$ or s-wave pairing symmetry, the mixed-state effect on quasiparticle interference in iron-based superconductors is investigated by solving large-scale Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations based on the Chebyshev polynomial expansion. Taking into account the presence of magnetic field, our result for the $s_{\pm}$ pairing is in qualitative agreement with recent scanning tunneling microscopy experiment while for the s-wave pairing, the result is in apparent contradiction with experimental observations, thus excluding the s-wave pairing. Furthermore, we treat the effect of vortices rigorously instead of approximating the vortices as magnetic impurities, thus our results are robust and should be more capable of explaining the experimental data.

Localization-delocalization transitions in a two-dimensional quantum percolation model: von Neumann entropy studies

In two-dimensional quantum site-percolation square lattice models, the von Neumann entropy is extensively studied numerically. At a certain eigenenergy, the localization-delocalization transition is reflected by the derivative of von Neumann entropy which is maximal at the quantum percolation threshold $p_q$. The phase diagram of localization-delocalization transitions is deduced in the extrapolation to infinite system sizes. The non-monotonic eigenenergies dependence of $p_q$ and the lowest value $p_q\simeq0.665$ are found. At localized-delocalized transition points, the finite scaling analysis for the von Neumann entropy is performed and it is found the critical exponents $ν$ not to be universal. These studies provide a new evidence that the existence of a quantum percolation threshold $p_q<1$ in the two-dimensional quantum percolation problem.

Fidelity, fidelity susceptibility and von Neumann entropy to characterize the phase diagram of an extended Harper model

For an extended Harper model, the fidelity for two lowest band edge states corresponding to different model parameters, the fidelity susceptibility and the von Neumann entropy of the lowest band edge states, and the spectrum-averaged von Neumann entropy are studied numerically, respectively. The fidelity is near one when parameters are in the same phase or same phase boundary; otherwise it is close to zero. There are drastic changes in fidelity when one parameter is at phase boundaries. For fidelity susceptibility the finite scaling analysis performed, the critical exponents $α$, $β$, and $ν$ depend on system sizes for the metal-metal phase transition, while not for the metal-insulator phase transition. For both phase transitions $ν/α\approx2$. The von Neumann entropy is near one for the metallic phase, while small for the insulating phase. There are sharp changes in von Neumann entropy at phase boundaries. According to the variation of the fidelity, fidelity susceptibility, and von Neumann entropy with model parameters, the phase diagram, which including two metallic phases and one insulating phase separated by three critical lines with one bicritical point, can be completely characterized, respectively. These numerical results indicate that the three quantities are suited for revealing all the critical phenomena in the model.

Mode entanglement of an electron in one-dimensional determined and random potentials

By using the measure of concurrence, mode entanglement of an electron moving in four kinds of one-dimensional determined and random potentials is studied numerically. The extended and local- ized states can be distinguished by mode entanglement. There are sharp transitions in concurrence at mobility edges. It provides that the mode entanglement may be a new index for a metal-insulator transition.

von Neumann entropy and localization properties of two interacting particles in one-dimensional nonuniform systems

With the help of von Neumann entropy, we study numerically the localization properties of two interacting particles (TIP) with on-site interactions in one-dimensional disordered, quasiperiodic, and slowly varying potential systems, respectively. We find that for TIP in disordered and slowly varying potential systems, the spectrum-averaged von Neumann entropy first increases with interaction U until its peak, then decreases as U gets larger. For TIP in the Harper model[S. N. Evangelou and D. E. Katsanos, Phys. Rev. B 56, 12797(1997)], the functions of versus U are different for particles in extended and localized regimes. Our numerical results indicate that for these two-particle systems, the von Neumann entropy is a suitable quantity to characterize the localization properties of particle states. Moreover, our studies propose a consistent interpretation of the discrepancies between previous numerical results.

Von Neumann entropy and localization-delocalization transition of electron states in quantum small-world networks

The von Neumann entropy for an electron in periodic, disorder and quasiperiodic quantum small-world networks(QSWNs) are studied numerically. For the disorder QSWNs, the derivative of the spectrum averaged von Neumann entropy is maximal at a certain density of shortcut links p*, which can be as a signature of the localization delocalization transition of electron states. The transition point p* is agreement with that obtained by the level statistics method. For the quasiperiodic QSWNs, it is found that there are two regions of the potential parameter. The behaviors of electron states in different regions are similar to that of periodic and disorder QSWNs, respectively.

Effective phonons in anharmonic lattices: anomalous vs normal heat conduction

We study heat conduction in one dimensional (1D) anharmonic lattices analytically and numerically by using an effective phonon theory. It is found that every effective phonon mode oscillates quasi-periodically. By weighting the power spectrum of the total heat flux in the Debye formula, we obtain a unified formalism that can explain anomalous heat conduction in momentum conserved lattices without on-site potential and normal heat conduction in lattices with on-site potential. Our results agree very well with numerical ones for existing models such as the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam model, the Frenkel-Kontorova model and the $ϕ^4$ model etc.

Zero-temperature criticality in the two-dimensional gauge glass model

The zero-temperature critical state of the two-dimensional gauge glass model is investigated. It is found that low-energy vortex configurations afford a simple description in terms of gapless, weakly interacting vortex-antivortex pair excitations. A linear dielectric screening calculation is presented in a renormalization group setting that yields a power-law decay of spin-wave stiffness with distance. These properties are in agreement with low-temperature specific heat and spin-glass susceptibility data obtained in large-scale multi-canonical Monte Carlo simulations.

Electronic properties of the 1D Frenkel-Kontorova model

The energy spectra and quantum diffusion of an electron in a 1D incommensurate Frenkel-Kontorova (FK) model are studied numerically. We found that the spectral and dynamical properties of electron display quite different behaviors in invariance circle regime and in Cantorus regime. In the former case, it is similar to that of the Harper model, whereas in the latter case, it is similar to that of the Fibonacci model. The relationship between spectral and transport properties is discussed.

Anomalous finite-size effect in superconducting Josephson junction arrays

We report large-scale simulations of the resistively-shunted Josephson junction array in strip geometry. As the strip width increases, the voltage first decreases following the dynamic scaling ansatz proposed by Minnhagen {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 74}, 3672 (1995)], and then rises towards the asymptotic value predicted by Ambegaokar {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 40}, 783 (1978)]. The nonmonotonic size-dependence is attributed to shortened life time of free vortices in narrow strips, and points to the danger of single-scale analysis applied to a charge-neutral superfluid state.

Disturbance spreading in incommensurate and quasiperiodic systems

The propagation of an initially localized excitation in one dimensional incommensurate, quasiperiodic and random systems is investigated numerically. It is discovered that the time evolution of variances $σ^2(t)$ of atom displacements depends on the initial condition. For the initial condition with nonzero momentum, $σ^2(t)$ goes as $t^α$ with $α=1$ and 0 for incommensurate Frenkel-Kontorova (FK) model at $V$ below and above $V_c$ respectively; and $α=1$ for uniform, quasiperiodic and random chains. It is also found that $α=1-β$ with $β$ the exponent of distribution function of frequency at zero frequency, i.e., $ρ(ω)\sim ω^β$ (as $ω\to 0$). For the initial condition with zero momentum, $α=0$ for all systems studied. The underlying physical meaning of this diffusive behavior is discussed.

Wave transmission, phonon localization and heat conduction of 1D Frenkel-Kontorova chain

We study the transmission coefficient of a plane wave through a 1D finite quasi-periodic system -- the Frenkel-Kontorova (FK) model -- embedding in an infinite uniform harmonic chain. By varying the mass of atoms in the infinite uniform chain, we obtain the transmission coefficients for {\it all} eigenfrequencies. The phonon localization of the incommensurated FK chain is also studied in terms of the transmission coefficients and the Thouless exponents. Moreover, the heat conduction of Rubin-Greer-like model for FK chain at low temperature is calculated. It is found that the stationary heat flux $J(N)\sim N^α$, and $α$ depends on the strength of the external potential.
