Emilia: A Large-Scale, Extensive, Multilingual, and Diverse Dataset for Speech Generation

Recent advancements in speech generation have been driven by large-scale training datasets. However, current models struggle to capture the spontaneity and variability inherent in real-world human speech, as they are primarily trained on audio-book datasets limited to formal, read-aloud speaking styles. To address this limitation, we introduce Emilia-Pipe, an open-source preprocessing pipeline designed to extract high-quality training data from valuable yet under-explored in-the-wild sources that capture spontaneous human speech in real-world contexts. Using Emilia-Pipe, we construct Emilia, which comprises over 101k hours of speech across six languages: English, Chinese, German, French, Japanese, and Korean. Furthermore, we expand Emilia to Emilia-Large, a dataset exceeding 216k hours, making it one of the largest open-source speech generation resources available. Extensive experiments show that Emilia-trained models produce markedly more spontaneous, human-like speech than those trained on traditional audio-book datasets, while matching their intelligibility. These models better capture diverse speaker timbres and the full spectrum of real-world conversational styles. Our work also highlights the importance of scaling dataset size for advancing speech generation performance and validates the effectiveness of Emilia for both multilingual and crosslingual speech generation tasks.

SF-Speech: Straightened Flow for Zero-Shot Voice Clone

Recently, neural ordinary differential equations (ODE) models trained with flow matching have achieved impressive performance on the zero-shot voice clone task. Nevertheless, postulating standard Gaussian noise as the initial distribution of ODE gives rise to numerous intersections within the fitted targets of flow matching, which presents challenges to model training and enhances the curvature of the learned generated trajectories. These curved trajectories restrict the capacity of ODE models for generating desirable samples with a few steps. This paper proposes SF-Speech, a novel voice clone model based on ODE and in-context learning. Unlike the previous works, SF-Speech adopts a lightweight multi-stage module to generate a more deterministic initial distribution for ODE. Without introducing any additional loss function, we effectively straighten the curved reverse trajectories of the ODE model by jointly training it with the proposed module. Experiment results on datasets of various scales show that SF-Speech outperforms the state-of-the-art zero-shot TTS methods and requires only a quarter of the solver steps, resulting in a generation speed approximately 3.7 times that of Voicebox and E2 TTS. Emilia: An Extensive, Multilingual, and Diverse Speech Dataset for Large-Scale Speech Generation

Recent advancements in speech generation models have been significantly driven by the use of large-scale training data. However, producing highly spontaneous, human-like speech remains a challenge due to the scarcity of large, diverse, and spontaneous speech datasets. In response, we introduce Emilia, the first large-scale, multilingual, and diverse speech generation dataset. Emilia starts with over 101k hours of speech across six languages, covering a wide range of speaking styles to enable more natural and spontaneous speech generation. To facilitate the scale-up of Emilia, we also present Emilia-Pipe, the first open-source preprocessing pipeline designed to efficiently transform raw, in-the-wild speech data into high-quality training data with speech annotations. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of both Emilia and Emilia-Pipe. Demos are available at: https://emilia-dataset.github.io/Emilia-Demo-Page/.

Expressive paragraph text-to-speech synthesis with multi-step variational autoencoder

Neural networks have been able to generate high-quality single-sentence speech. However, it remains a challenge concerning audio-book speech synthesis due to the intra-paragraph correlation of semantic and acoustic features as well as variable styles. In this paper, we propose a highly expressive paragraph speech synthesis system with a multi-step variational autoencoder, called EP-MSTTS. EP-MSTTS is the first VITS-based paragraph speech synthesis model and models the variable style of paragraph speech at five levels: frame, phoneme, word, sentence, and paragraph. We also propose a series of improvements to enhance the performance of this hierarchical model. In addition, we directly train EP-MSTTS on speech sliced by paragraph rather than sentence. Experiment results on the single-speaker French audiobook corpus released at Blizzard Challenge 2023 show EP-MSTTS obtains better performance than baseline models.

Sequential Topological Representations for Predictive Models of Deformable Objects

Deformable objects present a formidable challenge for robotic manipulation due to the lack of canonical low-dimensional representations and the difficulty of capturing, predicting, and controlling such objects. We construct compact topological representations to capture the state of highly deformable objects that are topologically nontrivial. We develop an approach that tracks the evolution of this topological state through time. Under several mild assumptions, we prove that the topology of the scene and its evolution can be recovered from point clouds representing the scene. Our further contribution is a method to learn predictive models that take a sequence of past point cloud observations as input and predict a sequence of topological states, conditioned on target/future control actions. Our experiments with highly deformable objects in simulation show that the proposed multistep predictive models yield more precise results than those obtained from computational topology libraries. These models can leverage patterns inferred across various objects and offer fast multistep predictions suitable for real-time applications.
