Search for neutrinoless quadruple beta decay of $^{136}$Xe in PandaX-4T detector

The observation of neutrinoless quadruple beta decay (0$ν$4$β$) in the absence of neutrinoless double beta decay (0$ν$2$β$) has been argued to provide a strong indication that neutrinos are Dirac particles. We report a search for 0$ν$4$β$ decay of $^{136}\text{Xe}$ using a total $^{136}\text{Xe}$ exposure of 148.4 kg$\cdot$yr, collected during the commissioning and the first science runs of the PandaX-4T experiment. No significant excess of events over the background is observed. A lower limit on the 0$ν$4$β$ decay half-life of $^{136}\text{Xe}$ is set at 6.01 x $10^{24}$ yr at the 90% confidence level. This result establishes the most stringent constraint on this process in xenon, demonstrating the unique capability of the PandaX-4T detector in probing lepton number violation and shedding light on the fundamental nature of neutrinos.

Wuying-Browser-Agent: Real-World Centric Fundamental Long-Horizon Browser Agents

Browser agents perform well on short, clean demonstrations, but real deployment is fundamentally different: agents must sustain dozens of decisions on live websites while recovering from mistakes and navigating complex UIs. We argue that closing this gap requires alignment at every level of the pipeline, including execution, supervision, optimization, and evaluation, rather than scale alone. We present Wuying-Browser-Agent, a unified framework that addresses each of these levels. A structured browser harness provides stable execution primitives and decision-oriented context management. Reflection and UI-specialized Curriculum SFT (RUIC-SFT) explicitly trains on recovery trajectories and complex-UI interactions. Divergence-Aware Online GRPO (DAO-GRPO) improves long-horizon credit assignment through potential-based reward shaping and divergence-aware step weighting. Finally, we introduce BrowserBench, a bilingual real-web benchmark of 350 tasks averaging 37.9 steps, because most existing benchmarks are too short to expose long-horizon failure modes. Wuying-Browser-Agent-27B achieves 80.6\% on WebVoyager, 66.7\% on Online-Mind2Web, and 65.1\% on BrowserBench, establishing a new open-source state of the art on browser-use benchmarks. The same pipeline also transfers beyond browser use, demonstrating strong general agentic ability and reaching an average score of 73.8 on Tau2-Bench, Claw-Eval, and BFCL-v4.

Measurement of solar $pp$ neutrino flux with the new PandaX-4T data

We report a new measurement of the solar proton--proton ($pp$) neutrino flux via neutrino--electron elastic scattering using the PandaX-4T Run 2 data set collected between 2024 and 2026, corresponding to an exposure of 1.9 tonne$\cdot$yr. Before Run 2 data taking, the detector underwent a series of upgrades to improve its response and background conditions. Time variations of radioactive noble-gas impurities are constrained using the physics data themselves, complemented by measurements from the gas-assay system. The analysis introduced improvements in the data processing chain, detector response characterization, and background models. A blind spectral analysis was then performed on the electronic-recoil data across a wide energy range from 20 to 1000 keV. In combination with the Run 0 data published earlier, the fitted $pp$ flux is $(8.5 \pm 3.5)\times 10^{10}$ $\mathrm{cm^{-2}s^{-1}}$, consistent with the prediction of the Standard Solar Model. With a statistical significance of $2.2σ$ above background, this marks the first positive indication of solar $pp$ neutrino--electron scattering below an electronic-recoil energy of 165 keV.

Performance Test and Circuit Simulation for R12699-406-M4 Photomultiplier Tube Base

The next-generation liquid xenon experiments like PandaX-xT target an energy range from sub-keV to multi-MeV to address the requirement of multiple physics searches. The Hamamatsu R12699-406-M4 photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) were developed and selected as photon sensors for PandaX-xT. Their voltage-divider base is optimized for a broad dynamic range, from single-photoelectron (SPE) sensitivity to 30~nC collected charge (matching the 2.5~MeV Q-value of $^{136}$Xe neutrinoless double beta decay~(NLDBD)). Using a dedicated test bench, we characterize the saturation and suppression responses of R12699-406-M4 PMTs with this base design. Based on measured PMT-base responses, we develop a circuit simulation model that accurately reproduces the physical mechanisms underlying these effects with key parameters tuned via experimental data. The combined simulation and bench-test approach guides base design and optimization, enabling improved detector dynamic range and supporting future saturation and suppression correction studies in data analysis.

Metadata-private Messaging without Coordination

For those seeking end-to-end private communication free from pervasive metadata tracking and censorship, the Tor network has been the de-facto choice in practice, despite its susceptibility to traffic analysis attacks. Recently, numerous metadata-private messaging proposals have emerged with the aim to surpass Tor in the messaging context by obscuring the relationships between any two messaging buddies, even against global and active attackers. However, most of these systems face an undesirable usability constraint: they require a metadata-private "dialing" phase to establish mutual agreement and timing or round coordination before initiating any regular chats among users. This phase is not only resource-intensive but also inflexible, limiting users' ability to manage multiple concurrent conversations seamlessly. For stringent privacy requirement, the often-enforced traffic uniformity further exacerbated the limitations of this roadblock. In this paper, we introduce PingPong, a new end-to-end system for metadata-private messaging designed to overcome these limitations. Under the same traffic uniformity requirement, PingPong replaces the rigid "dial-before-converse" paradigm with a more flexible "notify-before-retrieval" workflow. This workflow incorporates a metadata-private notification subsystem, Ping, and a metadata-private message store, Pong. Both Ping and Pong leverage hardware-assisted secure enclaves for performance and operates through a series of customized oblivious algorithms, while meeting the uniformity requirements for metadata protection. By allowing users to switch between conversations on demand, PingPong achieves a level of usability akin to modern instant messaging systems, while also offering improved performance and bandwidth utilization for goodput. We have built a prototype of PingPong with 32 8-core servers equipped with enclaves to validate our claims.

Optimized CNNs for Rapid 3D Point Cloud Object Recognition

This study introduces a method for efficiently detecting objects within 3D point clouds using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Our approach adopts a unique feature-centric voting mechanism to construct convolutional layers that capitalize on the typical sparsity observed in input data. We explore the trade-off between accuracy and speed across diverse network architectures and advocate for integrating an $\mathcal{L}_1$ penalty on filter activations to augment sparsity within intermediate layers. This research pioneers the proposal of sparse convolutional layers combined with $\mathcal{L}_1$ regularization to effectively handle large-scale 3D data processing. Our method's efficacy is demonstrated on the MVTec 3D-AD object detection benchmark. The Vote3Deep models, with just three layers, outperform the previous state-of-the-art in both laser-only approaches and combined laser-vision methods. Additionally, they maintain competitive processing speeds. This underscores our approach's capability to substantially enhance detection performance while ensuring computational efficiency suitable for real-time applications.

Enhancing Visual Question Answering through Ranking-Based Hybrid Training and Multimodal Fusion

Visual Question Answering (VQA) is a challenging task that requires systems to provide accurate answers to questions based on image content. Current VQA models struggle with complex questions due to limitations in capturing and integrating multimodal information effectively. To address these challenges, we propose the Rank VQA model, which leverages a ranking-inspired hybrid training strategy to enhance VQA performance. The Rank VQA model integrates high-quality visual features extracted using the Faster R-CNN model and rich semantic text features obtained from a pre-trained BERT model. These features are fused through a sophisticated multimodal fusion technique employing multi-head self-attention mechanisms. Additionally, a ranking learning module is incorporated to optimize the relative ranking of answers, thus improving answer accuracy. The hybrid training strategy combines classification and ranking losses, enhancing the model's generalization ability and robustness across diverse datasets. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the Rank VQA model. Our model significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art models on standard VQA datasets, including VQA v2.0 and COCO-QA, in terms of both accuracy and Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR). The superior performance of Rank VQA is evident in its ability to handle complex questions that require understanding nuanced details and making sophisticated inferences from the image and text. This work highlights the effectiveness of a ranking-based hybrid training strategy in improving VQA performance and lays the groundwork for further research in multimodal learning methods.
