Spatially incoherent illumination interferometry: a PSF almost insensitive to aberrations

We show that with spatially incoherent illumination, the point spread function width of an imaging interferometer like that used in full-field optical coherence tomography (FFOCT) is almost insensitive to aberrations that mostly induce a reduction of the signal level without broadening. This is demonstrated by comparison with traditional scanning OCT and wide-field OCT with spatially coherent illuminations. Theoretical analysis, numerical calculation as well as experimental results are provided to show this specific merit of incoherent illumination in full-field OCT. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that such result has been demonstrated.

5-regular oriented graphs with optimum skew energy

Let $G$ be a simple undirected graph and $G^σ$ be the corresponding oriented graph of $G$ with the orientation $σ$. The skew energy of $G^σ$, denoted by $\varepsilon_s(G^σ)$, is defined as the sum of the singular values of the skew adjacency matrix $S(G^σ)$. In 2010, Adiga et al. certified that $\varepsilon_s(G^σ) \leq n\sqrtΔ$, where $Δ$ is the maximum degree of $G$ of order $n$. In this paper, we determine all connected 5-regular oriented graphs of order $n$ with maximum skew-energy.

Query Answering with Inconsistent Existential Rules under Stable Model Semantics

Traditional inconsistency-tolerent query answering in ontology-based data access relies on selecting maximal components of an ABox/database which are consistent with the ontology. However, some rules in ontologies might be unreliable if they are extracted from ontology learning or written by unskillful knowledge engineers. In this paper we present a framework of handling inconsistent existential rules under stable model semantics, which is defined by a notion called rule repairs to select maximal components of the existential rules. Surprisingly, for R-acyclic existential rules with R-stratified or guarded existential rules with stratified negations, both the data complexity and combined complexity of query answering under the rule {repair semantics} remain the same as that under the conventional query answering semantics. This leads us to propose several approaches to handle the rule {repair semantics} by calling answer set programming solvers. An experimental evaluation shows that these approaches have good scalability of query answering under rule repairs on realistic cases.

Complex unit gain bicyclic graphs with rank 2, 3 or 4

A $\mathbb{T}$-gain graph is a triple $Φ=(G,\mathbb{T},φ)$ consisting of a graph $G=(V,E)$, the circle group $\mathbb{T}=\{z\in C: |z|=1\}$ and a gain function $φ:\overrightarrow{E}\rightarrow \mathbb{T}$ such that $φ(e_{ij})=φ(e_{ji})^{-1}=\overline{φ(e_{ji})}$. The rank of $\mathbb{T}$-gain graph $Φ$, denoted by $r(Φ)$, is the rank of the adjacency matrix of $Φ$. In 2015, Yu, Qu and Tu [ G. H. Yu, H. Qu, J. H. Tu, Inertia of complex unit gain graphs, Appl. Math. Comput. 265(2015) 619--629 ] obtained some properties of inertia of a $\mathbb{T}$-gain graph. They characterized the $\mathbb{T}$-gain unicyclic graphs with small positive or negative index. Motivated by above, in this paper, we characterize the complex unit gain bicyclic graphs with rank 2, 3 or 4.

Proton Conducting Graphene Oxide Coupled Neuron Transistors for Brain-Inspired Cognitive Systems

Neuron is the most important building block in our brain, and information processing in individual neuron involves the transformation of input synaptic spike trains into an appropriate output spike train. Hardware implementation of neuron by individual ionic/electronic hybrid device is of great significance for enhancing our understanding of the brain and solving sensory processing and complex recognition tasks. Here, we provide a proof-of-principle artificial neuron based on a proton conducting graphene oxide (GO) coupled oxide-based electric-double-layer (EDL) transistor with multiple driving inputs and one modulatory input terminal. Paired-pulse facilitation, dendritic integration and orientation tuning were successfully emulated. Additionally, neuronal gain control (arithmetic) in the scheme of rate coding is also experimentally demonstrated. Our results provide a new-concept approach for building brain-inspired cognitive systems.
