Community Detecting By Signaling on Complex Networks

Based on signaling process on complex networks, a method for identification community structure is proposed. For a network with $n$ nodes, every node is assumed to be a system which can send, receive, and record signals. Each node is taken as the initial signal source once to inspire the whole network by exciting its neighbors and then the source node is endowed a $n$d vector which recording the effects of signaling process. So by this process, the topological relationship of nodes on networks could be transferred into the geometrical structure of vectors in $n$d Euclidian space. Then the best partition of groups is determined by $F$-statistic and the final community structure is given by Fuzzy $C$-means clustering method (FCM). This method can detect community structure both in unweighted and weighted networks without any extra parameters. It has been applied to ad hoc networks and some real networks including Zachary Karate Club network and football team network. The results are compared with that of other approaches and the evidence indicates that the algorithm based on signaling process is effective.

The clustering coefficient and community structure of bipartite networks

Many real-world networks display a natural bipartite structure. It is necessary and important to study the bipartite networks by using the bipartite structure of the data. Here we propose a modification of the clustering coefficient given by the fraction of cycles with size four in bipartite networks. Then we compare the two definitions in a special graph, and the results show that the modification one is better to character the network. Next we define a edge-clustering coefficient of bipartite networks to detect the community structure in original bipartite networks.

ZZ Brane Decay in D Dimensions

In this paper we consider the ZZ brane decay in a D-dimensional background with a linear dilaton and a Liouville potential switched on. We mainly calculate the closed string emission rate during the decay process. For the case of a spacelike dilaton we find a similar Hagedorn behavior, in the closed string UV region, with the brane decay in the usual 26d and 2d bosonic string theory. This means that all of the energy of the original brane converts into outgoing closed strings. In the IR region the result is finite. We also give some comments about the case that the dilaton is null.

A Note on q-Deformed Two-Dimensional Yang-Mills and Open Topological Strings

In this note we make a test of the open topological string version of the OSV conjecture, proposed in hep-th/0504054, in the toric Calabi-Yau manifold $X= O(-3)\to\mathbf{P}^2$ with background D4-branes wrapped on Lagrangian submanifolds. The D-brane partition function reduces to an expectation value of some inserted operators of a q-deformed Yang-Mills theory living on a chain of $\mathbf{P}^1$'s in the base $\mathbf{P}^2$ of $X$. At large $N$ this partition function can be written as a sum over squares of chiral blocks, which are related to the open topological string amplitudes in the local $\mathbf{P}^2$ geometry with branes at both the outer and inner edges of the toric diagram. This is in agreement with the conjecture.

The Role of Weight on Community Structure of Networks

The role of weight on the weighted networks is investigated by studying the effect of weight on community structures. We use weighted modularity $Q^w$ to evaluate the partitions and Weighted Extremal Optimization algorithm to detect communities. Starting from idealized and empirical weighted networks, the distribution or matching between weights and edges are disturbed. Using dissimilarity function $D$ to distinguish the difference between community structures, it is found that the redistribution of weights does strongly affect the community structure especially in dense networks. This indicates that the community structure in networks is a suitable property to reflect the role of weight.

Accuracy and Precision of Methods for Community Identification in Weighted Networks

Based on brief review of approaches for community identification and measurement for sensitivity characterization, the accuracy and precision of several approaches for detecting communities in weighted networks are investigated. In weighted networks, the community structure should take both links and link weights into account and the partition of networks should be evaluated by weighted modularity $Q^w$. The results reveal that link weight has important effects on communities especially in dense networks. Potts model and Weighted Extremal Optimization (WEO) algorithm work well on weighted networks. Then Potts model and WEO algorithms are used to detect communities in Rhesus monkey network. The results gives nice understanding for real community structure.

Exactly Solvable Model of Superstring in Plane-wave Background with Linear Null Dilaton

In this paper, we study an exactly solvable model of IIB superstring in a time-dependent plane-wave backgound with a constant self-dual Ramond-Ramond 5-form field strength and a linear dilaton in the light-like direction. This background keeps sixteen supersymmetries. In the light-cone gauge, the action is described by the two-dimensional free bosons and fermions with time-dependent masses. The model could be canonically quantized and its Hamiltonian is time-dependent with vanishing zero point energy. The spectrum of the excitations is symmetric between the bosonic and fermionic sector. The string mode creation turns out to be very small.

Simulation Study of Internal and Surface waves of Vertically Vibrated Granular Materials

Molecular dynamical (MD) simulations are performed to simulate two dimensional vibrofluidized granular materials in this work. Statistics on simulation results indicate that there exist shocks propagating upward in each vibrating cycle. Under certain driving parameters surface waves similar to Faraday instability in normal fluid coexist with internal waves. Relationship between the two kinds of waves is explored. Moreover simulation results indicate that periodically structured bottom can change the dispersion relationship and amplitude of surface waves.

Dynamic Behaviors of Supersonic Granular Media under Vertical Vibration

We present experimental study of vibrofluidized granular materials by high speed photography. Statistical results present the averaged dynamic behaviors of granular materials in one cycle, including the variations of height, velocity and mechanical energy of the center of mass. Furthermore, time-space distribution of granular temperature which corresponds to the random kinetic energy shows that a temperature peak forms in the compression period and propagates upward with a steepened front. The Mach number in the steepened front is found to be greater than unity, indicating a shock propagating in the supersonic granular media.

Shock wave propagation in vibrofluidized granular materials

Shock wave formation and propagation in two-dimensional granular materials under vertical vibration are studied by digital high speed photography. The steepen density and temperature wave fronts form near the plate as granular layer collides with vibrating plate and propagate upward through the layer. The temperature front is always in the transition region between the upward and downward granular flows. The effects of driving parameters and particle number on the shock are also explored.

Formation and transportation of sand-heap in an inclined and vertically vibrated container

We report the experimental findings of formation and motion of heap in granular materials in an inclined and vertically vibrated container. We show experimentally how the transport velocity of heap up container is related to the driving acceleration as well as the driving frequency of exciter. An analogous experiment was performed with a heap-shaped Plexiglas block. We propose that cohesion force resulted from pressure gradient in ambient gas plays a crucial role in enhancing and maintaining a heap, and ratchet effect causes the movement of the heap. An equation which governs the transport velocity of the heap is presented.

The Community Structure of Econophysicist Collaboration Networks

This paper uses a database of collaboration recording between Econophysics Scientists to study the community structure of this collaboration network, which with a single type of vertex and a type of undirected, weighted edge. Hierarchical clustering and the algorithm of Girvan and Newman are presented to analyze the data. And it emphasizes the influence of the weight to results of communities by comparing the different results obtained in different weights. A function D is proposed to distinguish the difference between above results. At last the paper also gives explanation to the results and discussion about community structure.

Flat Currents of the Green-Schwarz Superstrings in AdS_5 x S^1 and AdS_3 x S^3 backgrounds

We construct a one-parameter family of flat currents in AdS_5 x S^1 and AdS_3 x S^3 Green-Schwarz superstrings, which would naturally lead to a hierarchy of classical conserved nonlocal charges. In the former case we rewrite the AdS_5 x S^1 string using a new Z_4-graded base of the superalgebra su(2,2|2). In both cases the existence of the Z_4 grading in the superalgebras plays a key role in the construction. As a result, we find that the flat currents, when formally written in terms of the G_0-gauge invariant lowercase 1-forms, take the same form as the one in AdS_5 x S^5 case.

Quantum Monte Carlo Simulations on S=1/2 antiferromagnetic-Ferromagnetic Random Alternating spin chain

The S=1/2 Heisenberg chain with bond alternation and randomness of antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM) interactions is investigated by quantum Monte Carlo simulations of loop/cluster algorithm. Our results have shown interesting finite temperature magnetic properties of this model. The relevance of our study to the observed results of the material (CH$_3$)$_2$CHNH$_3$Cu(Cl$_x$Br$_{1-x}$)$_3$ is discussed.

Remote state preparation in higher dimension and the parallelizable manifold $S^{n-1}$

This paper proves that the remote state preparation (RSP) scheme in real Hilbert space can only be implemented when the dimension of the space is 2,4 or 8. This fact is shown to be related to the parallelazablity of the $n$-1 dimensional sphere $S^{n-1}$. When the dimension is 4 and 8 the generalized scheme is explicitly presented. It is also shown that for a given state with components having the same norm, RSP can be generalized to arbitrary dimension case.
