Data-driven structural diagnostics and autonomous alignment of complex optical systems

The quest for autonomous alignment and maintenance of complex free-space optical systems is increasingly urgent for large-scale neutral-atom quantum processors. Leveraging a high-finesse optical cavity as a sensitive probe, we introduce a data-driven framework for structural diagnostics and closed-loop control that achieves cold-start convergence within tens of seconds. These results establish a rapid, scalable diagnostic-control methodology for autonomous alignment and continuous maintenance of complex free-space optical architectures.

PeakFocus: Bridging Peak Localization and Intensity Regression via a Unified Multi-Scale Framework for Electricity Load Forecasting

Electricity load peak forecasting (ELPF), simultaneously predicting peak timing and intensity, is a prerequisite for effective grid scheduling and risk management. However, existing methods face three limitations. First, they adopt a two-stage predict-then-locate paradigm, which severs the link between temporal localization and intensity regression. Second, they still struggle with the multi-scale representation conflict, leading to peak misjudgment and timing misalignment. Third, the lack of explicit peak timing context during intensity regression causes intensity smoothing because predictions are dominated by global smoothing trends. To address these limitations, we propose PeakFocus, a unified framework for ELPF. (i) A Unified Peak-Aware Pipeline (UPAP) utilizes a triple hybrid loss to jointly supervise temporal localization and intensity regression, alongside a tolerance-based evaluation protocol. (ii) A Multi-Scale Mixing Peak Locator (MSM-PL) exploits coarse-grained features to mitigate peak misjudgment caused by local fluctuations, and injects them into fine-grained features via a cascade mechanism to resolve timing misalignment. (iii) A Location-Aware Decoder (LAD) injects peak timing context into the intensity regression process, providing explicit guidance to counteract intensity smoothing and improve peak intensity estimation. Extensive experiments on the public Electricity (ELC) dataset and our industrial-scale World Large-scale Electricity Load (WLEL) dataset show that PeakFocus outperforms baselines in both timing precision and intensity estimation.

Observation of field-odd and field-free superconducting diode effects in $\mathrm{Mo}_2\mathrm{C}$ nanoflakes

The superconducting diode effect (SDE) enables nonreciprocal supercurrent flow, holding immense potential for ultra-low-power quantum electronics. Intrinsic SDE typically requires materials with inherent symmetry breakings. Here, we report the discovery of SDE in chemical vapor deposition-grown molybdenum carbide ($\mathrm{Mo}_2\mathrm{C}$) nanoflakes, a material traditionally considered centrosymmetric. Strikingly, this system uniquely hosts both field-odd and field-free SDEs. Transport measurements reveal a field-odd SDE with tunable efficiency exceeding 40% at 4 K under a perpendicular in-plane magnetic field. In a separate sample, a robust field-free SDE persists under zero-field and field-coolings. Out-of-plane field sweeps confirm the intrinsic nature of these phenomena. We propose that domain-boundary supercurrents or charge density wave-like orders drive this unexpected combination of symmetry breakings. Our findings establish air-stable $\mathrm{Mo}_2\mathrm{C}$ as an ideal platform for nonreciprocal superconducting electronics operating at liquid-helium temperatures, expanding the search for SDE into nominally centrosymmetric superconductors.

Robust and High-Fidelity Controlled Two-Qubit Gates via Asymmetric Parallel Resonant Excitation

Implementing high-fidelity controlled two-qubit gates in dipole-dipole interacting systems, such as rare-earth-ion crystals, in hindered by spectral inhomogeneity and weak coupling. Existing method often rely on detuned pulses, making them susceptible to frequency errors and AC Stark shifts. We propose a robust resonant scheme for arbitrary controlled two-qubit gates that utilizes asymmetric excitation and pulse engineering to achieve decoupled, parallel qubit control. Simulations on rare-earth-ion ensemble qubits demonstrate gate fidelities exceeding 99% within a 170 kHz detuning range with off-resonant excitation below 0.2%. This approach offers a robust, scalable route for quantum computing in spectrally crowded systems.

Design and implementation of a high-density sub-nanosecond timing system for a C-band photocathode electron gun test platform

This paper presents the design and implementation of a high-density, deterministic trigger distribution system tailored for the C-band photocathode electron gun test platform at the Southern Advanced Photon Source (SAPS). Implemented within a scalable 6U VME modular architecture, the system achieves high-density integration by consolidating a master controller, clock distribution network, and 80 heterogeneous output channels into a single chassis. This design leverages a high-performance FPGA core combined with custom backplane interconnections to establish a master-slave topology, significantly reducing the system footprint compared to stacked standalone generators. To guarantee timing determinism in high-noise environments, precise placement and timing constraints are applied to the FPGA logic, while optical isolation is employed to mitigate electromagnetic interference. Furthermore, a dual-channel SFP optical signaling architecture enables seamless expansion to 160 synchronized channels. A remote control framework based on a serial server and a virtual machine Input/Output Controller (IOC) facilitates flexible configuration. Performance tests demonstrate adjustable trigger frequencies from 1 Hz to 100 Hz, with delays and pulse widths tunable from 0 to 10 ms at a resolution of 10 ns (or the RF period). The local electrical output exhibits an ultra-low RMS jitter of 6.55 ps (60 ps peak-to-peak). For remote optical distribution, the system maintains a sub-nanosecond RMS jitter of 119.5 ps, with peak-to-peak variation confined to 1 ns due to the combined effects of transceiver optoelectronic conversion (utilizing HFBR-1414T/2412T modules) and fiber transmission. The system has been successfully commissioned and is currently in reliable routine operation, verifying the architecture as a robust, highly integrated, and cost-effective solution for compact accelerator facilities.

Democratizing planetary-scale analysis: An ultra-lightweight Earth embedding database for accurate and flexible global land monitoring

The rapid evolution of satellite-borne Earth Observation (EO) systems has revolutionized terrestrial monitoring, yielding petabyte-scale archives. However, the immense computational and storage requirements for global-scale analysis often preclude widespread use, hindering planetary-scale studies. To address these barriers, we present Embedded Seamless Data (ESD), an ultra-lightweight, 30-m global Earth embedding database spanning the 25-year period from 2000 to 2024. By transforming high-dimensional, multi-sensor observations from the Landsat series (5, 7, 8, and 9) and MODIS Terra into information-dense, quantized latent vectors, ESD distills essential geophysical and semantic features into a unified latent space. Utilizing the ESDNet architecture and Finite Scalar Quantization (FSQ), the dataset achieves a transformative ~340-fold reduction in data volume compared to raw archives. This compression allows the entire global land surface for a single year to be encapsulated within approximately 2.4 TB, enabling decadal-scale global analysis on standard local workstations. Rigorous validation demonstrates high reconstructive fidelity (MAE: 0.0130; RMSE: 0.0179; CC: 0.8543). By condensing the annual phenological cycle into 12 temporal steps, the embeddings provide inherent denoising and a semantically organized space that outperforms raw reflectance in land-cover classification, achieving 79.74% accuracy (vs. 76.92% for raw fusion). With robust few-shot learning capabilities and longitudinal consistency, ESD provides a versatile foundation for democratizing planetary-scale research and advancing next-generation geospatial artificial intelligence.

A Compact Dual-Beam Zeeman Slower for High-Flux Cold Atoms

We present a compact design of dual-beam Zeeman slower optimized for efficient production of cold atom applications. Traditional single-beam configurations face challenges from substantial residual atomic flux impacting downstream optical windows, resulting in increased system size, atomic deposition contamination, and a reduced operational lifetime. Our approach employs two oblique laser beams and a capillary-array collimation system to address these challenges while maintaining efficient deceleration. For rubidium ($^{87}$Rb), simulations demonstrate a significant increase in the fraction of atoms captured by a two-dimensional magneto-optical trap (2D-MOT) and nearly eliminate atom-induced contamination probability at optical windows, all within a compact Zeeman slower length of 44 cm. Experimental validation with Rb and Yb demonstrates highly efficient atomic loading within the same compact design. This advancement represents a substantial improvement for high-flux cold atom applications, providing reliable performance for high-precision metrology, quantum computation and simulation.

Surprise Calibration for Better In-Context Learning

In-context learning (ICL) has emerged as a powerful paradigm for task adaptation in large language models (LLMs), where models infer underlying task structures from a few demonstrations. However, ICL remains susceptible to biases that arise from prior knowledge and contextual demonstrations, which can degrade the performance of LLMs. Existing bias calibration methods typically apply fixed class priors across all inputs, limiting their efficacy in dynamic ICL settings where the context for each query differs. To address these limitations, we adopt implicit sequential Bayesian inference as a framework for interpreting ICL, identify "surprise" as an informative signal for class prior shift, and introduce a novel method--Surprise Calibration (SC). SC leverages the notion of surprise to capture the temporal dynamics of class priors, providing a more adaptive and computationally efficient solution for in-context learning. We empirically demonstrate the superiority of SC over existing bias calibration techniques across a range of benchmark natural language processing tasks.

Beyond Fixed Patches: Enhancing GPTs for Financial Prediction with Adaptive Segmentation and Learnable Wavelets

The extensive adoption of web technologies in the finance and investment sectors has led to an explosion of financial data, which contributes to the complexity of the forecasting task. Traditional machine learning models exhibit limitations in this forecasting task constrained by their restricted model capacity. Recent advances in Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs), with their greatly expanded parameter spaces, demonstrate promising potential for modeling complex dependencies in temporal sequences. However, existing pretraining-based approaches typically focus on fixed-length patch analysis, ignoring market data's multi-scale pattern characteristics. In this study, we propose $\mathbf{GPT4FTS}$, a novel framework that enhances pretrained transformer capabilities for temporal sequence modeling through dynamic patch segmentation and learnable wavelet transform modules. Specifically, we first employ K-means++ clustering based on DTW distance to identify scale-invariant patterns in market data. Building upon pattern recognition results, we introduce adaptive patch segmentation that partitions temporal sequences while preserving pattern integrity. To accommodate time-varying frequency characteristics, we devise a dynamic wavelet transform module that emulates discrete wavelet transformation with enhanced flexibility in capturing time-frequency features. Extensive experiments on real-world financial datasets substantiate the framework's efficacy. The source code is available: \href{https://anonymous.4open.science/r/GPT4FTS-6BCC/}

Dual Classification Head Self-training Network for Cross-scene Hyperspectral Image Classification

Due to the difficulty of obtaining labeled data for hyperspectral images (HSIs), cross-scene classification has emerged as a widely adopted approach in the remote sensing community. It involves training a model using labeled data from a source domain (SD) and unlabeled data from a target domain (TD), followed by inferencing on the TD. However, variations in the reflectance spectrum of the same object between the SD and the TD, as well as differences in the feature distribution of the same land cover class, pose significant challenges to the performance of cross-scene classification. To address this issue, we propose a dual classification head self-training network (DHSNet). This method aligns class-wise features across domains, ensuring that the trained classifier can accurately classify TD data of different classes. We introduce a dual classification head self-training strategy for the first time in the cross-scene HSI classification field. The proposed approach mitigates domain gap while preventing the accumulation of incorrect pseudo-labels in the model. Additionally, we incorporate a novel central feature attention mechanism to enhance the model's capacity to learn scene-invariant features across domains. Experimental results on three cross-scene HSI datasets demonstrate that the proposed DHSNET significantly outperforms other state-of-the-art approaches. The code for DHSNet will be available at https://github.com/liurongwhm.

Superconductivity at Pd/Bi$_2$Se$_3$ Interfaces Due to Self-Formed PdBiSe Interlayers

Understanding the physical and chemical processes at the interface of metals and topological insulators is crucial for developing the next generation of topological quantum devices. Here we report the discovery of robust superconductivity in Pd/Bi$_2$Se$_3$ bilayers fabricated by sputtering Pd on the surface of Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Through transmission electron microscopy measurements, we identify that the observed interfacial superconductivity originates from the diffusion of Pd into Bi$_2$Se$_3$. In the diffusion region, Pd chemically reacts with Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and forms a layer of PdBiSe, a known su-perconductor with a bulk transition temperature of 1.5 K. Our work provides a method for in-troducing superconductivity into Bi$_2$Se$_3$, laying the foundation for developing sophisticated Bi$_2$Se$_3$-based topological devices.

MCI-GRU: Stock Prediction Model Based on Multi-Head Cross-Attention and Improved GRU

As financial markets grow increasingly complex in the big data era, accurate stock prediction has become more critical. Traditional time series models, such as GRUs, have been widely used but often struggle to capture the intricate nonlinear dynamics of markets, particularly in the flexible selection and effective utilization of key historical information. Recently, methods like Graph Neural Networks and Reinforcement Learning have shown promise in stock prediction but require high data quality and quantity, and they tend to exhibit instability when dealing with data sparsity and noise. Moreover, the training and inference processes for these models are typically complex and computationally expensive, limiting their broad deployment in practical applications. Existing approaches also generally struggle to capture unobservable latent market states effectively, such as market sentiment and expectations, microstructural factors, and participant behavior patterns, leading to an inadequate understanding of market dynamics and subsequently impact prediction accuracy. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a stock prediction model, MCI-GRU, based on a multi-head cross-attention mechanism and an improved GRU. First, we enhance the GRU model by replacing the reset gate with an attention mechanism, thereby increasing the model's flexibility in selecting and utilizing historical information. Second, we design a multi-head cross-attention mechanism for learning unobservable latent market state representations, which are further enriched through interactions with both temporal features and cross-sectional features. Finally, extensive experiments on four main stock markets show that the proposed method outperforms SOTA techniques across multiple metrics. Additionally, its successful application in real-world fund management operations confirms its effectiveness and practicality.

LSR-IGRU: Stock Trend Prediction Based on Long Short-Term Relationships and Improved GRU

Stock price prediction is a challenging problem in the field of finance and receives widespread attention. In recent years, with the rapid development of technologies such as deep learning and graph neural networks, more research methods have begun to focus on exploring the interrelationships between stocks. However, existing methods mostly focus on the short-term dynamic relationships of stocks and directly integrating relationship information with temporal information. They often overlook the complex nonlinear dynamic characteristics and potential higher-order interaction relationships among stocks in the stock market. Therefore, we propose a stock price trend prediction model named LSR-IGRU in this paper, which is based on long short-term stock relationships and an improved GRU input. Firstly, we construct a long short-term relationship matrix between stocks, where secondary industry information is employed for the first time to capture long-term relationships of stocks, and overnight price information is utilized to establish short-term relationships. Next, we improve the inputs of the GRU model at each step, enabling the model to more effectively integrate temporal information and long short-term relationship information, thereby significantly improving the accuracy of predicting stock trend changes. Finally, through extensive experiments on multiple datasets from stock markets in China and the United States, we validate the superiority of the proposed LSR-IGRU model over the current state-of-the-art baseline models. We also apply the proposed model to the algorithmic trading system of a financial company, achieving significantly higher cumulative portfolio returns compared to other baseline methods. Adaptive Multi-Scale Decomposition Framework for Time Series Forecasting

Transformer-based and MLP-based methods have emerged as leading approaches in time series forecasting (TSF). While Transformer-based methods excel in capturing long-range dependencies, they suffer from high computational complexities and tend to overfit. Conversely, MLP-based methods offer computational efficiency and adeptness in modeling temporal dynamics, but they struggle with capturing complex temporal patterns effectively. To address these challenges, we propose a novel MLP-based Adaptive Multi-Scale Decomposition (AMD) framework for TSF. Our framework decomposes time series into distinct temporal patterns at multiple scales, leveraging the Multi-Scale Decomposable Mixing (MDM) block to dissect and aggregate these patterns in a residual manner. Complemented by the Dual Dependency Interaction (DDI) block and the Adaptive Multi-predictor Synthesis (AMS) block, our approach effectively models both temporal and channel dependencies and utilizes autocorrelation to refine multi-scale data integration. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our AMD framework not only overcomes the limitations of existing methods but also consistently achieves state-of-the-art performance in both long-term and short-term forecasting tasks across various datasets, showcasing superior efficiency. Pressure-induced Superconductivity and Topological Quantum Phase Transitions in the Topological Semimetal ZrTe2

Topological transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have attracted much attention due to its potential applications in spintronics and quantum computations. In this work, we systematically investigate the structural and electronic properties of topological TMDCs candidate ZrTe2 under high pressure. A pressure-induced Lifshitz transition is evidenced by the change of charge carrier type as well as the Fermi surface. Superconductivity was observed at around 8.3 GPa without structural phase transition. A typical dome-shape phase diagram is obtained with the maximum Tc of 5.6 K for ZrTe2. Furthermore, our theoretical calculations suggest the presence of multiple pressure-induced topological quantum phase transitions, which coexists with emergence of superconductivity. The results demonstrate that ZrTe2 with nontrivial topology of electronic states display new ground states upon compression.
