GW190814: Circumstantial Evidence for Up-Down Quark Star

Within a confining quark matter model which considers phenomenologically the quark confinement and asymptotic freedom as well as the chiral symmetry restoration and quark deconfinement at high baryon density, we find that if the up-down quark matter ($ud$QM) is more stable than nuclear matter and strange quark matter (SQM), the maximum mass of static quark stars with $ud$QM is $2.87M_{\odot}$ under agreement with both the constraints on star tidal deformability from gravitational wave signal GW170817 and the mass-radius of PSR J0030+0451 and PSR J0740+6620 measured by NICER. In contrast, the conventional strange quark star with the SQM that is more stable than nuclear matter while the nuclear matter is more stable than $ud$QM, has a maximum static mass of only $1.87M_{\odot}$ and its radius significantly deviates from NICER's constraint. Our results thus provide circumstantial evidence suggesting the recently reported GW190814's secondary component with a mass of $2.59^{+0.08}_{-0.09}M_\odot$ could be an up-down quark star.

Systematic study of proton radioactivity half-lives based on the relationship between the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock and the macroscopic quantities of nuclear matter

In the present work, we systematically study the proton radioactivity half-lives of 33 spherical nuclei based on the relationship between the Skyrme parameters and the macroscopic quantities of nuclear matter. Using the two-potential approach with the spherical Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model, the correlation between proton radioactivity half-life and macroscopic quantities was analyzed. Moreover, we obtained a new Skyrme parameter set by fitting the two most weighted macroscopic quantities. Compared with Skyrme parameters MSL0 and the theoretical model of proton radioactivity UDLP, the theoretical proton radioactivity half-life calculated by the new Skyrme parameter set can better reproduce the experimental data.

Two-proton radioactivity within Coulomb and proximity potential model

Considering the preformation probability of the two emitted protons in the parent nucleus, we extend the Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM) to systematically study two-proton (2p) radioactivity half-lives of the nuclei close to proton drip line. The proximity potential chosen is Prox. 81 proposed by Blocki et al. in 1981. Furthermore, we apply this model to predict the half-lives of possible 2p radioactive candidates whose 2p radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified in the evaluated nuclear properties table NUBASE2016. The predicted results are in good agreement with those from other theoretical models and empirical formulas, namely the effective liquid drop model (ELDM), generalized liquid drop model (GLDM), Gamow-like model, Sreeja formula and Liu formula.

Studying the potential of QQq at finite temperature in a holographic model

Using the gauge/gravity duality, we investigate the string breaking and dissolution of two heavy quarks coupled to a light quark at finite temperature. It is found that there exist three configurations of QQq with the increase of separate distance for heavy quarks in the confined phase. Besides, the string breaking occurs at the distance $L_{\rm{QQq}} = 1.27 \rm{fm}$($T = 0.1 \rm{GeV}$) for the decay mode $\rm{Q Q q \rightarrow Q q q+Q \bar{q}}$. In the deconfined phase, QQq will melt at a certain distance then becomes free quarks. At last, we compare the potential of QQq with that of $\rm{Q\bar{Q}}$ and find $\rm{Q\bar{Q}}$ is more stable than QQq at high temperature.

Symmetry energy effects on the properties of hybrid stars

Symmetry energy is an important part of the equation of state of isospin asymmetry matter. However, the huge uncertainties of symmetry energy remain at suprasaturation densities, where the phase transitions of strongly interacting matter and the quark matter symmetry energy are likely to be taken into account. In this work, we investigate the properties of symmetry energy by using a hybrid star with the hadron-quark phase transition. The interaction among strange quark matter (SQM) in hybrid stars is based on a 3-flavor NJL model with different vector and isovector channels, while the equation of state (EOS) of the nuclear matter is obtained by considering the ImMDI-ST interaction by varying the parameters x, y, and z. Our results indicate that the various parameters and coupling constants of the interactions from the ImMDI-ST and NJL model can lead to widely different trends for the symmetry energy in the hadron-quark mixed phase and the different onsets of the hadron-quark phase transition. In addition, it has been found that the radii and tidal deformabilities of hybrid stars constrain mostly the density dependence of symmetry energy while the observed maximum masses of hybrid stars constrain mostly the EOS of symmetric nuclear and quark matter.

Systematic study on proton radioactivity of spherical proton emitters within two--potential approach

In the present work we systematically study the half--lives of proton radioactivity for spherical proton emitters with ${Z\ge 69}$ based on two--potential approach. While the nuclear potential of the emitted proton--daughter nucleus is adopted by a parameterized cosh type, the parameters of the depth and diffuseness for nuclear potential are determined by fitting experimental data of 32 spherical proton emitters. In order to reduce the deviations between experimental half-lives and calculated ones, we propose a simple analytic expression for formation probability of proton radioactivity with the same orbital angular momentum $l$. The results indicate that the formation probability can be simply described by a formula of $A_d^{1/3}$. Moreover, the linear relationship between the formation probability and the fragmentation potential also exists. The calculated half-lives can well reproduce the experimental data.

Consistency of a kind of general noncanonical warm inflation

The framework of a kind of noncanonical warm inflation is introduced, and the dynamical equations of this scenario are presented. We propose the slow roll approximations and give some redefining slow roll parameters in this scenario which remain dimensionless. Performing systemic stability analysis, we calculate the slow roll conditions to guarantee that slow roll approximations hold. The slow roll conditions suggest slow roll inflation in general noncanonical warm inflationary scenario can still exist, and in addition, the slow roll approximations are more easily to be satisfied. Then, a concrete Dirac-Born-Infeld warm inflationary model is studied.

Systematic study of proton radioactivity of spherical proton emitters with Skyrme interactions

Proton radioactivity is an important and common process of the natural radioactivity of proton-rich nuclei. In our previous work [J. H. Cheng et al., Nucl. Rhys. A 997, 121717 (2020)], we systematically studied the proton radioactivity half-lives of 53< Z <83 nuclei within the two-potential approach with Skyrme-Hartree-Fock. The calculations can well reproduce the experimental data of spherical nuclei. The present work is an extension of the previous work. We systematically study 32 proton radioactivity half-lives of spherical nuclei with the two-potential approach with Skyrme-Hartree-Fock (TPA-SHF) within 115 different versions of the Skyrme interactions. The calculated results indicate that the SLy7 Skyrme interaction gives the lowest r.m.s. deviation in the description of the experimental data of the spherical proton emitters among all the different versions of the Skyrme interactions. In addition, we use this model with the SLy7 Skyrme interaction to predict the proton radioactivity half-lives of 7 spherical nuclei in the same region, whose proton radioactivity is energetically allowed or has been observed but is not yet quantified.

New Geiger-Nuttall law for proton radioactivity

In the present work considering the contributions of the daughter nuclear charge and the orbital angular momentum taken away by the emitted proton, we propose a two-parameter formula of new Geiger-Nuttall law for proton radioactivity. A set of universal parameters of this law is obtained by fitting 44 experimental data of proton emitters in the ground state and isomeric state. The calculated results can reproduce the experimental data well. For a comparison, the calculations performed using other theoretical methods, such as UDLP proposed by Qi, et al. [https://journals.aps.org/prc/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevC.85.011303], the CPPM-Guo2013 analyzed by our previous work [Deng, et al., https://link.springer.com/article/10.1140/epja/i2019-12728-0] and the modified Gamow-like model proposed by us [Chen, et al., https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1361-6471/ab1a56] are also included. Meanwhile, we extend this new Geiger-Nuttall law to predict the proton radioactivity half-lives for $51 \leq Z \leq 91$ nuclei, whose proton radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified in NUBASE2016.

Systematic study of $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives based on Gamow--like model with a screened electrostatic barrier

In the present work we systematically study $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives of $Z>51$ nuclei using the modified Gamow-like model which includes the effects of the centrifugal potential and electrostatic shielding. For the case of even-even nuclei, this model contains two adjustable parameters: the parameter $a$ related to the screened electrostatic barrier and the radius constant $r_0$, while for the case of odd-odd and odd-A nuclei, it is added a new parameter i.e. hindrance factor $h$ which is used to describe the effect of an odd-proton and/or an odd-neutron. Our calculations can well reproduce the experimental data. In addition, we use this modified Gamow-like model to predict the $\mathcalα$-decay half-lives of seven even-even nuclei with $Z=120$ and some un-synthesized nuclei on their $\mathcalα$ decay chains.

Systematic study of $\boldsymbol{\mathcalα}$ decay of nuclei around $\boldsymbol{Z=82}$, $\boldsymbol{N=126}$ shell closure within the cluster-formation model and proximity potential 1977 formalism

In the present work, we systematically study the $\mathcalα$ decay preformation factors $P_α$ within the cluster-formation model and $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives by the proximity potential 1977 formalism for nuclei around $Z=82$, $N=126$ closed shells. The calculations show that the realistic $P_α$ is linearly dependent on the product of valance protons (holes) and valance neutrons (holes) $N_pN_n$. It is consistent with our previous works [X.-D. Sun \textit{et al.}, \href{https://journals.aps.org/prc/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevC.94.024338}{ Phys. Rev. C 94, 024338 (2016)}, J.-G. Deng \textit{et al.}, \href{https://journals.aps.org/prc/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevC.96.024318}{Phys. Rev. C 96, 024318 (2017)}], which $P_α$ are model-dependent and extracted from the ratios of calculated $\mathcalα$ half-lives to experimental data. Combining with our previous works, we confirm that the valance proton-neutron interaction plays a key role in the $\mathcalα$ preformation for nuclei around $Z=82$, $N=126$ shell closures whether the $P_α$ is model-dependent or microcosmic. In addition, our calculated $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives by using the proximity potential 1977 formalism taking $P_α$ evaluated by the cluster-formation model can well reproduce the experimental data and significantly reduce the errors.

Isovector properties of quark matter and quark stars in an isospin-dependent confining model

The confining quark matter (CQM) model, in which the confinement and asymptotic freedom are modeled via the Richardson potential for quark-quark vector interaction and the chiral symmetry restoration at high density is described by the density dependent quark mass, is extended to include isospin dependence of the quark mass. Within this extended isospin-dependent confining quark matter (ICQM) model, we study the properties of strange quark matter and quark stars. We find that including isospin dependence of the quark mass can significantly influence the quark matter symmetry energy, the stability of strange quark matter and the mass-radius relation of quark stars. In particular, we demonstrate although the recently discovered large mass pulsars PSR J1614.2230 and PSR J0348+0432 with masses around two times solar mass ($2M_{\odot}$) cannot be quark stars within the original CQM model, they can be well described by quark stars in the ICQM model if the isospin dependence of quark mass is strong enough so that the quark matter symmetry energy is about four times that of a free quark gas. We also discuss the effects of the density dependence of quark mass on the properties of quark stars. Our results indicate that the heavy quark stars with mass around $2M_{\odot}$ (if exist) can put strong constraints on isospin and density dependence of the quark mass as well as the quark matter symmetry energy.

Warm asymmetric quark matter and proto-quark stars within the confined-isospin-density-dependent mass model

We extend the confined-isospin-density-dependent mass (CIDDM) model to include temperature dependence of the equivalent mass for quarks. Within the CIDDM model, we study the equation of state (EOS) for $β$-equilibrium quark matter, quark symmetry energy, quark symmetry free energy, and the properties of quark stars at finite temperature. We find that including the temperature dependence of the equivalent mass can significantly influence the properties of the strange quark matter (SQM) as well as the quark symmetry energy, the quark symmetry free energy, and the maximum mass of quark stars at finite temperature. The mass-radius relations for different stages of the proto-quark stars (PQSs) along the star evolution are analyzed. Our results indicate that the heating (cooling) process for PQSs will increase (decrease) the maximum mass within CIDDM model by including temperature dependence of the equivalent mass for quarks.

Primordial non-Gaussianity in noncanonical warm inflation: three- and four-point correlations

Non-Gaussianity generated in inflation can be contributed by two parts. The first part, denoted by $f_{NL}^{δN}$, is the contribution from four-point correlation of inflaton field which can be calculated using $δN$ formalism, and the second part, denoted by $f_{NL}^{int}$, is the contribution from the three-point correlation function of the inflaton field. We consider the two contributions to the non-Gaussianity in noncanonical warm inflation throughout (noncanonical warm inflation is a new inflationary model which is proposed in \cite{Zhang2014}). We find the two contributions are complementary to each other. The four-point correlation contribution to the non-Gaussianity is overwhelmed by the three-point one in strong noncanonical limit, while the conclusion is opposite in the canonical case. We also discuss the influence of the field redefinition, thermal dissipative effect and noncanonical effect to the non-Gaussianity in noncanonical warm inflation.

Primordial non-Gaussianity in warm inflation using $δN$ formalism

A $δN$ formalism is used to study the non-Gaussianity of the primordial curvature perturbation on an uniform density hypersurfaces generated by the warm inflation for the first time. After introducing the framework of the warm inflation and the $δN$ formalism, we obtain an analytic expression for the nonlinear parameter $f_{NL}$ that describes the non-Gaussianity in slow roll approximation, and find that the $δN$ formalism gives a very good result. We analyse the magnitude of $f_{NL}$ and compare our result with those of the standard inflation. Then we discuss two concrete examples: the quartic chaotic model and the hilltop model. The quartic potential model can again be in very good agreement with the Planck results in the warm inflationary scenario, and we give out the concrete results of how the nonlinear parameter depends on the dissipation strength of the warm inflation and the amounts of expansion. We find that the range of the nonlinear parameters in these two cases are both well inside of the allowed region of Planck.

Quark magnetar in three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with vector interaction and magnetized gluon potential

We investigate properties of strange quark matter in the framework of SU(3) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio(NJL) model with vector interaction under strong magnetic fields. The effects of vector-isoscalar and vector-isovector interaction on the equation of state of strange quark matter are investigated, and it is found that the equation of state is not sensitive to the vector-isovector interaction, however, a repulsive interaction in the vector-isoscalar channel gives a stiffer equation of state for cold dense quark matter. In the presence of magnetic field, gluons will be magnetized via quark loops, and the contribution from magnetized gluons to the equation of state is also estimated. The sound velocity square is a quantity to measure the hardness or softness of dense quark matter, and in the NJL model without vector interaction at zero magnetic field the sound velocity square is always less than 1/3. It is found that a repulsive vector-isoscalar interaction and a positive pressure contribution from magnetized gluons can enhance the sound velocity square, which can even reach 1. To construct quark magnetars under strong magnetic fields, we consider anisotropic pressures and use a density-dependent magnetic field profile to mimic the magnetic field distribution in a quark star. We also analyze the parameter region for the magnitude of vector-isoscalar interaction and the contribution from magnetized gluons in order to produce 2 solar mass quark magnetars.

Quark stars under strong magnetic fields

Within the confined isospin- and density-dependent mass model, we study the properties of strange quark matter (SQM) and quark stars (QSs) under strong magnetic fields. The equation of state of SQM under a constant magnetic field is obtained self-consistently and the pressure perpendicular to the magnetic field is shown to be larger than that parallel to the magnetic field, implying that the properties of magnetized QSs generally depend on both the strength and the orientation of the magnetic fields distributed inside the stars. Using a density-dependent magnetic field profile which is introduced to mimic the magnetic field strength distribution in a star, we study the properties of static spherical QSs by assuming two extreme cases for the magnetic field orientation in the stars, i.e., the radial orientation in which the local magnetic fields are along the radial direction and the transverse orientation in which the local magnetic fields are randomly oriented but perpendicular to the radial direction. Our results indicate that including the magnetic fields with radial (transverse) orientation can significantly decrease (increase) the maximum mass of QSs, demonstrating the importance of the magnetic field orientation inside the magnetized compact stars.

Quark matter symmetry energy and quark stars

We extend the confined-density-dependent-mass (CDDM) model to include isospin dependence of the equivalent quark mass. Within the confined-isospin-density-dependent-mass (CIDDM) model, we study the quark matter symmetry energy, the stability of strange quark matter, and the properties of quark stars. We find that including isospin dependence of the equivalent quark mass can significantly influence the quark matter symmetry energy as well as the properties of strange quark matter and quark stars. While the recently discovered large mass pulsars PSR J1614-2230 and PSR J0348+0432 with masses around $2M_{\odot}$ cannot be quark stars within the CDDM model, they can be well described by quark stars in the CIDDM model. In particular, our results indicate that the two-flavor $u$-$d$ quark matter symmetry energy should be at least about twice that of a free quark gas or normal quark matter within conventional Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in order to describe the PSR J1614-2230 and PSR J0348+0432 as quark stars.
