Two transient X-ray Quasi-Periodic Oscillations separated by an intermediate state in 1H 0707-495

In the narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy 1H 0707-495, recently a transient quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) signal with a frequency of $\sim 2.6\times 10^{-4}$ Hz has been detected at a high statistical significance. Here, we reanalyze the same set of XMM-Newton data observed on 2008 February 4 with the Weighted-Wavelet Z-transform (WWZ) method. In addition to confirming the previous findings, we also find another QPO signal with a frequency of $\sim 1.2\times 10^{-4}$ Hz in a separated X-ray emission phase at the significance level of $\sim 3.7σ$. The signal is also found fitting an auto-regressive model though at a lower significance. The frequency ratio between these two signals is $\sim 2:1$. The analysis of other XMM-Newton measurements of 1H 0707-495 also reveals the presence of the $\sim 2.6\times 10^{-4}$ Hz ($\sim 1.2\times 10^{-4}$ Hz) QPO signal on 2007 May 14 (2010 September 17) at the significance level of $\sim 4.2σ$ ($\sim 3.5σ$). The QPO frequency found in this work follows the $f_{QPO}-M_{BH}$ relation reported in previous works spanning from stellar-mass to supermassive black holes. This is the first time to observe two separated transient X-ray QPO signals in active galactic nuclei (AGNs), which sheds new light on the physics of accreting supermassive black holes.

A $γ$-ray Quasi-Periodic modulation in the Blazar PKS 0301$-$243?

We report a nominally high-confidence $γ$-ray quasi-periodic modulation in the blazar PKS 0301$-$243. For this target, we analyze its \emph{Fermi}-LAT Pass 8 data covering from 2008 August to 2017 May. Two techniques, i.e., the maximum likelihood optimization and the exposure-weighted aperture photometry, are used to build the $γ$-ray light curves. Then both the Lomb-Scargle Periodogram and the Weighted Wavelet Z-transform are applied to the light curves to search for period signals. A quasi-periodicity with a period of $2.1\pm0.3$ yr appears at the significance level of $\sim5σ$, although it should be noted that this putative quasi-period variability is seen in a data set barely four times longer. We speculate that this $γ$-ray quasi-periodic modulation might be evidence of a binary supermassive black hole.

SUSY SU(5) $\times S_{4}$ GUT Flavor Model for Fermion Masses and Mixings with Adjoint, Large $θ^{PMNS}_{13}$

We propose an $S_{4}$ flavor model based on supersymmetric (SUSY) SU(5) GUT. The first and third generations of \textbf{10} dimensional representations in SU(5) are all assigned to be $1_{1}$ of $S_{4}$. The second generation of \textbf{10} is to be $1_{2}$ of $S_{4}$. Right-handed neutrinos of singlet \textbf{1} and three generations of $\bar{\textbf{5}}$ are all assigned to be $3_{1}$ of $S_{4}$. The VEVs of two sets of flavon fields are allowed a moderate hierarchy, that is $\langleΦ^ν\rangle \sim λ_{c}\langleΦ^{e}\rangle$. Tri-Bimaximal (TBM) mixing can be produced at both leading order (LO) and next to next to leading order (NNLO) in neutrino sector. All the masses of up-type quarks are obtained at LO. We also get the bottom-tau unification $m_τ=m_{b}$ and the popular Georgi-Jarlskog relation $m_μ=3m_{s}$ as well as a new mass relation $m_{e}=\frac{8}{27}m_{d}$ in which the novel Clebsch-Gordan (CG) factor arises from the adjoint field $H_{24}$. The GUT relation leads to a sizable mixing angle $θ^{e}_{12} \sim θ_{c}$ and the correct quark mixing matrix $V_{CKM}$ can also be realised in the model. The resulting CKM-like mixing matrix of charged leptons modifies the vanishing $θ^ν_{13}$ in TBM mixing to a large $θ^{PMNS}_{13}\simeqθ_{c}/\sqrt{2}$, in excellent agreement with experimental results. A Dirac CP violation phase $ϕ_{12}\simeq\pmπ/2$ is required to make the deviation from $θ^ν_{12}$ small. We also present some phenomenological numerical results predicted by the model.

Discovery of gamma-ray emission from a strongly lobe-dominated quasar 3C 275.1

We systematically analyze the 6-year {\it Fermi}/LAT data of the lobe-dominated quasars (LDQs) in the complete LDQ sample from 3CRR survey and report the discovery of high-energy $γ$-ray emission from 3C 275.1. The $γ$-ray emission of 3C 207 is confirmed and significant variability of the lightcurve is identified. We do not find statistically significant $γ$-ray emission from other LDQs. 3C 275.1 is the known $γ$-ray quasar with the lowest core dominance parameter (i.e., $R=0.11$). We also show that both the northern radio hotspot and parsec jet models can reasonably reproduce the $γ$-ray data. The parsec jet model, however, is favored by the potential $γ$-ray variability at the timescale of months. We suggest that some dimmer $γ$-ray LDQs will be detected in the future and LDQs could contribute non-negligibly to the extragalactic $γ$-ray background.
