Discrete Token Modeling for Multi-Stem Music Source Separation with Language Models

We propose a generative framework for multi-track music source separation (MSS) that reformulates the task as conditional discrete token generation. Unlike conventional approaches that directly estimate continuous signals in the time or frequency domain, our method combines a Conformer-based conditional encoder, a dual-path neural audio codec (HCodec), and a decoder-only language model to autoregressively generate audio tokens for four target tracks. The generated tokens are decoded back to waveforms through the codec decoder. Evaluation on the MUSDB18-HQ benchmark shows that our generative approach achieves perceptual quality approaching state-of-the-art discriminative methods, while attaining the highest NISQA score on the vocals track. Ablation studies confirm the effectiveness of the learnable Conformer encoder and the benefit of sequential cross-track generation.

Transition from antiferromagnets to altermagnets: Symmetry-Breaking Theory

Considering the similarity of the real-space configurations for the opposite spin sublattices in both antiferromagnets (AFM) and altermagnets (AM), the relationship between them should be profound. In this work, we demonstrate that AFM and AM can be connected with spin groups and their subgroups. Consequently, the breaking of the combined inversion or translation operation with time-reversal symmetry (PT or tT) in AFM will induce transition from AFM to AM. We systematically list all collinear spin point groups and space groups that can realize the transition for the three types of AFMs: PT-type, tT-type and PT-tT-type. Moreover, we propose that Floquet engineering using circularly polarized light and surface cutting engineering are effective approaches to break PT and tT symmetries of AFM, respectively, achieving the transition. Interestingly, the features and magnitude of altermagnetic spin splitting can be tuned by adjusting various parameters of Floquet engineering. Our work not only establishes a theoretical framework for the transition from AFM to AM, but also provides practical approaches utilizing the achievements in AFM for a hundred years to obtain AM, significantly expanding the scope of altermagnetic materials for both theoretical studies and future practical applications.

General Stacking Theory for Altermagnetism in Bilayer Systems

Two-dimensional (2D) altermagnetism was recently proposed to be attainable in twisted antiferromagnetic bilayers providing an experimentally feasible approach to realize it in 2D materials. Nevertheless, a comprehensive understanding of the mechanism governing the appearance of altermagnetism in bilayer systems is still absent. In present letter, we address this gap by introducing a general stacking theory (GST) as a key condition for the emergence of altermagnetism in bilayer systems. The GST provides straightforward criteria to predict whether a bilayer demonstrates altermagnetic spin splitting, solely based on the layer groups of the composing monolayers. According to the GST, only seven point groups of bilayers facilitate the emergence of altermagnetism. It is revealed that, beyond the previously proposed antiferromagnetic twisted vdW stacking, altermagnetism can even emerge in bilayers formed through the symmetrically restricted direct stacking of two monolayers. By combining the GST and first-principles calculations, we present illustrative examples of bilayers demonstrating altermagnetism. Our work establishes a robust framework for designing diverse bilayer systems with altermagnetism, thereby opening up new avenues for both fundamental research and practical applications in this field.

Unravelling Negative In-plane Stretchability of 2D MOF by Large Scale Machine Learning Potential Molecular Dynamics

Two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) hold immense potential for various applications due to their distinctive intrinsic properties compared to their 3D analogues. Herein, we designed in silico a highly stable NiF$_2$(pyrazine)$_2$ 2D MOF with a two-periodic wine-rack architecture. Extensive first-principles calculations and Molecular Dynamics simulations based on a newly developed machine learning potential (MLP) revealed that this 2D MOF exhibits huge in-plane Poisson's ratio anisotropy. This results into an anomalous negative in-plane stretchability, as evidenced by an uncommon decrease of its in-plane area upon the application of uniaxial tensile strain that makes this 2D MOF particularly attractive for flexible wearable electronics and ultra-thin sensor applications. We further demonstrated that the derived MLP offers a unique opportunity to effectively anticipate the finite temperature mechanical properties of MOFs at large scale. As a proof-concept, MLP-based Molecular Dynamics simulations were successfully achieved on 2D NiF$_2$(pyrazine)$_2$ with a dimension of 28.2$\times$28.2 nm$^2$ relevant to the length scale experimentally attainable for the fabrication of MOF film.

NiCl3 Monolayer: Dirac Spin-Gapless Semiconductor and Chern Insulator

The great obstacle for practical applications of the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect is the lack of suitable QAH materials (Chern insulators) with large non-trivial band gap, room-temperature magnetic order and high carrier mobility. The Nickle chloride (NiCl3) monolayer characteristics are investigated herein using first-principles calculations. It is reported that NiCl3 monolayers constitute a new class of Dirac materials with Dirac spin-gapless semiconducting and high-temperature ferromagnetism (~400K). Taking into account the spin-orbit coupling, the NiCl3 monolayer becomes an intrinsic insulator with a large non-trivial band gap of ~24 meV, corresponding to an operating temperature as high as ~280K at which the quantum anomalous Hall effect could be observed. The calculated large non-trivial gap, high Curie temperature and single-spin Dirac states reported herein for the NiCl3 monolayer lead us to propose that this material give a great promise for potential realization of a near-room temperature QAH effect and potential applications in spintronics. Last but not least the calculated Fermi velocities of Dirac fermion of about 4x105 m/s indicate very high mobility in NiCl3 monolayers.
