Searching for $Ξ_{cc}^+$ in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

We study the doubly charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}^+$ in high energy nuclear collisions. We solve the three-body Schroedinger equation with relativistic correction and calculate the $Ξ_{cc}^+$ yield and transverse momentum distribution via coalescence mechanism. For $Ξ_{cc}^+$ production in central Pb+Pb collisions at LHC energy, the yield is extremely enhanced, and the production cross section per binary collision is one order of magnitude larger than that in p+p collisions. This indicates that, it is most probable to discover $Ξ_{cc}^+$ in heavy ion collisions and its discovery can be considered as a probe of the quark-luon plasma formation.

Thermal Charm and Charmonium Production in Quark Gluon Plasma

We study the effect of thermal charm production on charmonium regeneration in high energy nuclear collisions. By solving the kinetic equations for charm quark and charmonium distributions in Pb+Pb collisions, we calculate the global and differential nuclear modification factors $R_{AA}(N_{part})$ and $R{AA}(p_t)$ for $J/Ψ$s. Due to the thermal charm production in hot medium, the charmonium production source changes from the initially created charm quarks at SPS, RHIC and LHC to the thermally produced charm quarks at Future Circular Collider (FCC), and the $J/Ψ$ suppression ($R_{AA}<1$) observed so far will be replaced by a strong enhancement ($R_{AA}>1$) at FCC at low transverse momentum.

Effects of chiral imbalance and magnetic field on pion superfluidity and color superconductivity

The effects of chiral imbalance and external magnetic field on pion superfluidity and color superconductivity are investigated in extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio models. We take Schwinger approach to treat the interaction between charged pion condensate and magnetic field at finite isospin density and include simultaneously the chiral imbalance and magnetic field at finite baryon density. For the superfluidity, the chiral imbalance and magnetic field lead to catalysis and inverse catalysis effects, respectively. For the superconductivity, the chiral imbalance enhances the critical baryon density, and the magnetic field results in a de Haas--van Alphan oscillation on the phase transition line.

Heavy Quark and Quarkonium Transport in High Energy Nuclear Collisions

The strong interaction between heavy quarks and the quark gluon plasma makes the open and hidden charm hadrons be sensitive probes of the deconfinement phase transition in high energy nuclear collisions. Both the cold and hot nuclear matter effects change with the colliding energy and significantly influence the heavy quark and charmonium yield and their transverse momentum distributions. The ratio of averaged quarkonium transverse momentum square and the elliptic flow reveal the nature of the QCD medium created in heavy ion collisions at SPS, RHIC and LHC energies.

Topological Susceptibility in Three-Flavor Quark Meson Model at Finite Temperature

We study $U_A(1)$ symmetry and its relation to chiral symmetry at finite temperature through the application of functional renormalization group to the $SU(3)$ quark meson model. Very different from the mass gap and mixing angel between $η$ and $η'$ mesons which are defined at mean field level and behavior like the chiral condensates, the topological susceptibility includes a fluctuations induced part which becomes dominant at high temperature. As a result, the $U_A(1)$ symmetry is still considerably broken in the chiral symmetry restoration phase.

Critical Behavior and Dimension Crossover of Pion Superfluidity

We investigate the critical behavior of pion superfluidity in the frame of functional renormalization group. By solving the flow equation in the SU(2) linear sigma model with pion superfluidity at finite temperature and isospin density, and making comparison with the fixed point analysis of the flow diagram in a general $O(N)$ model at zero temperature and density but with continuous dimension, the pion superfluidity is a second order phase transition subject to a $O(2)$ universality class with a dimension crossover from $d_{\text{eff}}=4$ to $d_{\text{eff}}=3$. The usually used large $N$ expansion gives a temperature independent critical exponent $β$ and agrees with the renormalization group only at zero temperature.

Glueballs amass at RHIC and LHC Colliders! - The early quarkless 1st order phase transition at $T=270$ MeV - from pure Yang-Mills glue plasma to GlueBall-Hagedorn states

The early stage of high multiplicity pp, pA and AA collider is represented by a nearly quarkless, hot, deconfined pure gluon plasma. According to pure Yang-Mills Lattice Gauge Theory, this hot pure glue matter undergoes, at a high temperature, $T_c = 270$ MeV, a first order phase transition into a confined Hagedorn-GlueBall fluid. These new scenario should be characterized by a suppression of high $p_T$ photons and dileptons, baryon suppression and enhanced strange meson production. We propose to observe this newly predicted class of events at LHC and RHIC.

Anti-shadowing Effect on Charmonium Production at a Fixed-target Experiment Using LHC Beams

We investigate charmonium production in Pb+Pb collisions at LHC beam energy $E_{\text {lab}}$=2.76 A TeV at fixed-target experiment ($\sqrt {s_{\text{NN}}}$=72 GeV). In the frame of a transport approach including cold and hot nuclear matter effects on charmonium evolution, we focus on the anti-shadowing effect on the nuclear modification factors $R_{AA}$ and $r_{AA}$ for the $J/ψ$ yield and transverse momentum. The yield is more suppressed at less forward rapidity ($y_\text{lab}\simeq$2) than that at very forward rapidity ($y_\text{lab}\simeq$4) due to the shadowing and anti-shadowing in different rapidity bins.

Solid-state calculation of crystalline color superconductivity

It is generally believed that the inhomogeneous Larkin-Ovchinnikov-Fulde-Ferrell (LOFF) phase appears in a color superconductor when the pairing between different quark flavors is under the circumstances of mismatched Fermi surfaces. However, the real crystal structure of the LOFF phase is still unclear because an exact treatment of 3D crystal structures is rather difficult. In this work we present a solid-state-like calculation of the ground-state energy of the body-centered cubic (BCC) structure for two-flavor pairing by diagonalizing the Hamiltonian matrix in the Bloch space without assuming a small amplitude of the order parameter. We develop a computational scheme to overcome the difficulties in diagonalizing huge matrices. Our results show that the BCC structure is energetically more favorable than the 1D modulation in a narrow window around the conventional LOFF-normal phase transition point, which indicates the significance of the higher-order terms in the Ginzburg-Landau approach.

Thermalization of gluons with Bose-Einstein condensation

We study the thermalization of gluons far from thermal equilibrium in relativistic kinetic theory. The initial distribution of gluons is assumed to resemble that in the early stage of ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. Only elastic scatterings in static, nonexpanding gluonic matter are considered. At first we show that the occurrence of condensation in the limit of vanishing particle mass requires a general constraint for the scattering matrix element. Then the thermalization of gluons with Bose-Einstein condensation is demonstrated in a transport calculation. We see a continuously increasing overpopulation of low energy gluons, followed by a decrease to the equilibrium distribution, when the condensation occurs. The times of the completion of the gluon condensation and of the entropy production are calculated. These times scale inversely with the energy density.

Magnetic Field Effect on Charmonium Production in High Energy Nuclear Collisions

It is important to understand the strong external magnetic field generated at the very beginning of high energy nuclear collisions. We study the effect of the magnetic field on the charmonium yield and anisotropic distribution in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC energy. The time dependent Schrödinger equation is employed to describe the motion of $c\bar{c}$ pairs. We compare our model prediction of non- collective anisotropic parameter $v_2$ of $J/ψ$s with CMS data at high transverse momentum. This is the first attempt to measure the magnetic field in high energy nuclear collisions.

The "ripples" on relativistically expanding fluid

Recent studies have shown that fluctuations of various types play important roles in the evolution of the fireball created in relativistic heavy ion collisions and bear many phenomenological consequences for experimental observables. The bulk dynamics of the fireball is well described by relativistic hydrodynamic expansion and the fluctuations on top of such expanding background can be studied within the linearized hydrodynamic framework. In this work we present complete and analytic sound wave solutions on top of both Bjorken flow and Hubble flow backgrounds. We also briefly discuss the applications of these solutions in heavy ion collisions.

Charmonium Transverse Momentum Distribution in High Energy Nuclear Collisions

The Charmonium transverse momentum distribution is more sensitive to the nature of the hot QCD matter created in high energy nuclear collisions, in comparison with the yield. Taking a detailed transport approach for charmonium motion together with a hydrodynamic description for the medium evolution, the cancelation between the two hot nuclear matter effects, the dissociation and the regeneration, controls the charmonium transverse momentum distribution. Especially, the second moment of the distribution can be used to differentiate between the hot mediums produced at SPS, RHIC and LHC energies.

Collective modes and Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in a magnetic field in the planar Nambu--Jona-Lasino model

It is known that a constant magnetic field is a strong catalyst of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in 2+1 dimensions, leading to generating dynamical fermion mass even at weakest attraction. In this work we investigate the collective modes associated with the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in a constant magnetic field in the (2+1)-dimensional Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with continuous U(1) chiral symmetry. We introduce a self-consistent scheme to evaluate the propagators of the collective modes at the leading order in 1/N. The contributions from the vacuum and from the magnetic field are separated such that we can employ the well-established regularization scheme for the case of vanishing magnetic field. The same scheme can be applied to the study of the next-to-leading order correction in 1/N. We show that the sigma mode is always a lightly bound state with its mass being twice the dynamical fermion mass for arbitrary strength of the magnetic field. Since the dynamics of the collective modes is always 2+1 dimensional, the finite temperature transition should be of the Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) type. We determine the KT transition temperature $T_{\rm KT}$ as well as the mass melting temperature $T^*$ as a function of the magnetic field. It is found that the pseudogap domain $T_{\rm KT}<T<T^*$ is enlarged with increasing strength of the magnetic field. The influence of a chiral imbalance or axial chemical potential $μ_5$ is also studied. We find that even a constant axial chemical potential $μ_5$ can lead to inverse magnetic catalysis of the KT transition temperature in 2+1 dimensions. The inverse magnetic catalysis behavior is actually the de Haas--van Alphen oscillation induced by the interplay between the magnetic field and the Fermi surface.

$Ω_{ccc}$ Production in High Energy Nuclear Collisions

We investigate the production of $Ω_{ccc}$ baryon in high energy nuclear collisions via quark coalescence mechanism. The wave function of $Ω_{ccc}$ is solved from the Schrödinger equation for the bound state of three charm quarks by using the hyperspherical method. The production cross section of $Ω_{ccc}$ per binary collision in a central Pb+Pb collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV reaches 9 nb, which is at least two orders of magnitude larger than that in a p+p collision at the same energy. Therefore, it is most probable to discover $Ω_{ccc}$ in heavy ion collisions at LHC, and the observation will be a clear signature of the quark-gluon plasma formation.

Υ Production in Heavy Ion Collisions at LHC

We investigate the Υ production in heavy ion collisions at LHC energy in the frame of a dynamical transport approach. Both the initial production and in-medium regeneration and both the cold and hot nuclear matter effects are included in the calculations. In comparison with the ground state Υ(1s), the excited state Υ(2s) is much more sensitive to the heavy quark potential at finite temperature.

Medium Effects on Charmonium Production at ultrarelativistic energies available at the CERN Large Haron Collider

We investigate with a transport approach the cold and hot nuclear matter effects on the charmonium transverse momentum distributions in relativistic heavy ion collisions. The newly defined nuclear modification factor $r_{AA}=\langle p_{T}^2\rangle_{AA}/\langle p_{T}^2\rangle_{pp}$ and elliptic flow $v_2$ for $J/ψ$ are sensitive to the nature of the hot medium and the thermalization of heavy quarks. From SPS through RHIC to LHC colliding energies, we observe dramatic changes in the centrality dependence of $r_{AA}$. We find that at LHC energy, the finally observed charmonia are dominated by the regeneration from thermalized heavy quarks.

BCS-BEC crossover in relativistic Fermi systems

We review the BCS-BEC crossover in relativistic Fermi systems, including the QCD matter at finite density. In the first part we study the BCS-BEC crossover in a relativistic four-fermion interaction model and show how the relativistic effect affects the BCS-BEC crossover. In the second part, we investigate both two-color QCD at finite baryon density and pion superfluid at finite isospin density, by using an effective Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. We will show how the model describes the weakly interacting diquark and pion condensates at low density and the BEC-BCS crossover at high density.
