FlexibleSUSY - a meta spectrum generator for supersymmetric models

FlexibleSUSY is a software package that takes as input descriptions of (non-)minimal supersymmetric models written in Wolfram/Mathematica and generates a set of spectrum generator libraries and executables, with the aid of SARAH. The design goals are precision, reliability, modularity, speed, and readability of the code. The boundary conditions are independent C++ objects that are plugged into the boundary value problem solver together with the model objects. This clean separation makes it easy to adapt the generated code for individual projects. The current status of the interface and implementation is sketched.

Bayesian naturalness of the CMSSM and CNMSSM

The recent discovery of the 125.5 GeV Higgs boson at the LHC has fueled interest in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) as it may require less fine-tuning than the minimal model to accommodate such a heavy Higgs. To this end we present Bayesian naturalness priors to quantify fine-tuning in the (N)MSSM. These priors arise automatically as Occam razors in Bayesian model comparison and generalize the conventional Barbieri-Giudice measure. In this paper we show that the naturalness priors capture features of both the Barbieri-Giudice fine-tuning measure and a simple ratio measure that has been used in the literature. We also show that according to the naturalness prior the constrained version of the NMSSM is less tuned than the CMSSM.

Fine Tuning in the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

Supersymmetric unified models in which the Z' couples to the Higgs doublets, as in the E6 class of models, have large fine tuning dominated by the experimental mass limit on the Z'. To illustrate this we investigate the degree of fine tuning throughout the parameter space of the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (cE6SSM) that is consistent with a Higgs mass m_h ~ 125 GeV. Fixing tan beta = 10, and taking specific values of the mass of the Z' boson, with M_Z' ~ 2-4 TeV. We find that the minimum fine tuning is set predominantly from the mass of Z' and varies from ~ 200-400 as we vary M_Z' from ~ 2-4 TeV. However, this is significantly lower than the fine tuning in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (cMSSM), of O(1000), arising from the large stop masses required to achieve the Higgs mass.

Threshold Corrections in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We calculate threshold corrections to the running gauge and Yukawa couplings in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6SSM) and analyse the more precise and reliable mass spectra in a constrained model (CE6SSM). Full expressions for the corrections are provided and the implementation into a spectrum generator is described. We find a dramatic reduction in the matching scale dependency of the masses of many states and observe a significant adjustment of the correlation of low-scale physical masses and high-scale parameters. Still, in substantial regions of parameter space the mass of the lightest Higgs is compatible with the new boson discovered at the LHC and the model satisfies limits from collider searches for squark, gluinos and Z' bosons. We study the implications for gauge coupling unification from a new dependency of the spectrum on so-called survival Higgs fields which cannot be addressed without the inclusion of the threshold corrections.

A New Measure of Fine Tuning

The solution to fine tuning is one of the principal motivations for Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) Studies. However constraints on new physics indicate that many of these BSM models are also fine tuned (although to a much lesser extent). To compare these BSM models it is essential that we have a reliable, quantitative measure of tuning. We review the measures of tuning used in the literature and propose an alternative measure. We apply this measure to several toy models and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.

Measuring Fine Tuning In Supersymmetry

The solution to fine tuning is one of the principal motivations for supersymmetry. However constraints on the parameter space of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) suggest it may also require fine tuning (although to a much lesser extent). To compare this tuning with different extensions of the Standard Model (including other supersymmetric models) it is essential that we have a reliable, quantitative measure of tuning. We review the measures of tuning used in the literature and propose an alternative measure. We apply this measure to several toy models and the MSSM with some intriguing results.

Electroweak Symmetry Breaking in the E6SSM

The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6SSM) is an E6 inspired model with an extra gauged U(1) symmetry, which solves the mu-problem in a similar way to the NMSSM but without the accompanying problems of singlet tadpoles or domain walls. It predicts new exotic particles at the TeV scale. We investigate the Renormalisation Group Evolution of the model and test electroweak symmetry breaking for a selection of interesting scenarios with non-universal Higgs masses at the GUT scale. We present a detailed particle spectrum that could be observed at the LHC.

Fine Tuning in Supersymmetric Models

The solution of a fine tuning problem is one of the principal motivations of Supersymmetry. However experimental constraints indicate that many Supersymmetric models are also fine tuned (although to a much lesser extent). We review the traditional measure of this fine tuning used in the literature and propose an alternative. We apply this to the MSSM and show the implications.
