Liouville integrable Lotka-Volterra systems

We present $\frac{m^{2}}{4}+\frac{m}{2}+\frac{1-\left(-1\right)^{m}}{8}$ homogeneous $(3m-2)$-parameter families of Liouville integrable $(2m)$- and $(2m-1)$-dimensional Lotka-Volterra systems. We also study inhomogeneous versions of these systems.

On the relation between the dual AKP equation and an equation by King and Schief, and its N-soliton solution

The Dual of the lattice AKP (DAKP) equation [P.H. van der Kamp et al., J. Phys. A 51, 365202 (2018)] is equivalent to a 14-point equation related to the lattice BKP equation, found by King and Schief (KS), and hence it is integrable. We show that the KS equation is dual to Hirota's version of AKP (DAGTE), and we settle the conjectured $N$-soliton solution of DAKP, for all values of the parameters.

Subalgebras of integrals, commutants, and superintegrable deformations of Lotka-Volterra systems

We consider the Lie-algebraic notion of commutant in the setting of Poisson algebra. This provides a framework for deforming Hamiltonian differential equations. By taking a subalgebra of the algebra of integrals, and considering the set of functions that Poisson commute with that subalgebra, the Hamiltonian can be deformed, while retaining integrability. We deform Liouville integrable and superintegrable Lotka-Volterra systems studied in [19]. We present different explicit constructions considering Abelian and non-Abelian subalgebras of integrals. We obtain superintegrable systems for specific dimensions, and in arbitrary dimension. Polynomial systems are deformed to rational systems, some of which have non-rational integrals. Superintegrability seems to be preserved in this approach.

Hypergraphs and Lotka-Volterra systems with linear Darboux polynomials

We associate parametric classes of $n$-component Lotka-Volterra systems which admit $k$ additional linear Darboux polynomials, with admissible loopless hypergraphs of order $n$ and size $k$. We study the equivalence relation on admissible hypergraphs induced by linear transformations of the associated LV-systems, for $n\leq 5$. We present a new 13-parameter 5-component superintegrable Lotka-Volterra system, i.e. one that is not equivalent to a so-called tree-system. We conjecture that tree-systems associated with nonisomorphic trees are not equivalent, which we verified for $n<9$.

Trees and superintegrable Lotka-Volterra families

To any tree on $n$ vertices we associate an $n$-dimensional Lotka-Volterra system with $3n-2$ parameters and, for generic values of the parameters, prove it is superintegrable, i.e. it admits $n-1$ functionally independent integrals. We also show how these systems can be reduced to an ($n-1$)-dimensional system which is superintegrable and solvable by quadratures.

On a quadratic Poisson algebra and integrable Lotka-Volterra systems with solutions in terms of Lambert's W function

We study a class of integrable nonhomogeneous Lotka-Volterra systems whose quadratic terms are defined by an antisymmetric matrix and whose linear terms consist of three blocks. We provide the Poisson algebra of their Darboux polynomials, and prove a contraction theorem. We then use these results to classify the systems according to the number of functionally independent (and, for some, commuting) integrals. We also establish separability/solvability by quadratures, given the solutions to the 2- and 3-dimensional systems, which we provide in terms of the Lambert W function.

Measure preservation and integrals for Lotka--Volterra tree-systems and their Kahan discretisation

We show that any Lotka--Volterra tree-system associated with an $n$-vertex tree, as introduced in Quispel et al., J. Phys. A 56 (2023) 315201, preserves a rational measure. We also prove that the Kahan discretisation of these tree-systems factorises and preserves the same measure. As a consequence, for the Kahan maps of Lotka--Volterra systems related to the subclass of tree-systems corresponding to graphs with more than one $n$-vertex subtree, we are able to construct rational integrals.

From auto-Bäcklund transformations to auto-Bäcklund transformations, and torqued ABS equations

We provide a method which takes an auto-Bäcklund transformation (auto-BT) and produces another auto-BT for a different equation. We apply the method to the natural auto-BTs for the ABS quad equations, which gives rise to torqued versions of ABS equations and explains the origin of each auto-BT listed in [J. Atkinson, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 41 (2008) 135202]. The method is also applied to non-natural auto-BTs for ABS equations, which yields 3D consistent cubes which have not been found in [R. Boll, J. Nonl. Math. Phys. 18 (2011) 337--365], and to a multi-quadratic ABS* equation giving rise to a multi-quartic equation.

Generalised Manin transformations and QRT maps

Manin transformations are maps of the plane that preserve a pencil of cubic curves. They are the composition of two involutions. Each involution is constructed in terms of an involution point that is required to be one of the base points of the pencil. We generalise this construction to explicit birational maps of the plane that preserve quadratic resp. certain quartic pencils, and show that they are measure-preserving and hence integrable. In the quartic construction the two involution points are required to be base points of the pencil of multiplicity 2. On the other hand, for the quadratic pencils the involution points can be any two distinct points in the plane (except for base points). We employ Pascal's theorem to show that the maps that preserve a quadratic pencil admit infinitely many symmetries. The full 18-parameter QRT map is obtained as a special instance of the quartic case in a limit where the two involution points go to infinity. We show by construction that each generalised Manin transformation can be brought to QRT form by a fractional affine transformation. We also specify classes of generalised Manin transformations which admit a root.

Integrability of auto-Bäcklund transformations, and solutions of a torqued ABS equation

An auto-Bäcklund transformation for the quad equation $\mathrm{Q1}_1$ is considered as a discrete equation, called $\mathrm{H2}^a$, which is a so called torqued version of $\mathrm{H2}$. The equations $\mathrm{H2}^a$ and $\mathrm{Q1}_1$ compose a consistent cube, from which a auto-Bäcklund transformation and a Lax pair for $\mathrm{H2}^a$ are obtained. More generally it is shown that auto-Bäcklund transformations admit auto-Bäcklund transformations. Using the auto-Bäcklund transformation for $\mathrm{H2}^a$ we derive a seed solution and a one-soliton solution. From this solution it is seen that $\mathrm{H2}^a$ is a semi-autonomous lattice equation, as the spacing parameter $q$ depends on $m$ but it disappears from the plain wave factor.

Integrable boundary conditions for quad equations, open boundary reductions and integrable mappings

In the context of integrable partial difference equations on quad-graphs, we introduce the notion of open boundary reductions as a new means to construct discrete integrable mappings and their invariants. This represents an alternative to the well-known periodic reductions. The construction deals with well-posed initial value problems for quad equations on quad-graphs restricted to a strip. It relies on the so-called double-row monodromy matrix and gives rise to integrable mappings. To obtain the double-row monodromy matrix, we use the notion of boundary matrix and discrete boundary zero curvature condition, themselves related to the boundary consistency condition, which complements the well-known $3$D consistency condition for integrable quad equations and gives an integrability criterion for boundary equations. This relation is made precise in this paper. Our focus is on quad equations from the Adler-Bobenko-Suris (ABS) classification and their discrete integrable boundary equations. Taking as our prime example a regular $\mathbb{Z}^2$-lattice with two parallel boundaries, we provide an explicit construction of the maps obtained by open boundary reductions, the boundary matrices, as well as the invariants extracted from the double-row monodromy matrix. Examples of integrable maps are considered for the H1 and Q1($δ=0$) equations and an interesting example of a non-QRT map of the plane is presented. Examples of well-posed quad-graph systems on a strip beyond the $\mathbb{Z}^2$-lattice are also given.

Multi-Component Extension of CAC Systems

In this paper an approach to generate multi-dimensionally consistent $N$-component systems is proposed. The approach starts from scalar multi-dimensionally consistent quadrilateral systems and makes use of the cyclic group. The obtained $N$-component systems inherit integrable features such as Bäcklund transformations and Lax pairs, and exhibit interesting aspects, such as nonlocal reductions. Higher order single component lattice equations (on larger stencils) and multi-component discrete Painlevé equations can also be derived in the context, and the approach extends to $N$-component generalizations of higher dimensional lattice equations.

Duality for discrete integrable systems II

We generalise the concept of duality to lattice equations. We derive a novel 3 dimensional lattice equation, which is dual to the lattice AKP equation. Reductions of this equation include Rutishauser's quotient-difference (QD) algorithm, the higher analogue of the discrete time Toda (HADT) equation and its corresponding quotient-quotient-difference (QQD) system, the discrete hungry Lotka-Volterra system, discrete hungry QD, as well as the hungry forms of HADT and QQD. We provide three conservation laws, we conjecture the equation admits N-soliton solutions and that reductions have the Laurent property and vanishing algebraic entropy.

Three classes of quadratic vector fields for which the Kahan discretization is the root of a generalised Manin transformation

We apply Kahan's discretisation method to three classes of 2-dimensional quadratic vector fields with quadratic, resp cubic, resp quartic Hamiltonians. We show that the maps obtained in this way can be geometrically understood as the composition of two involutions, one of which is a (linear) symmetry switch, and the other is a generalised Manin involution.
