Adiabatic Pair Creation

We give here the proof that pair creation in a time dependent potentials is possible. It happens with probability one if the potential changes adiabatically in time and becomes overcritical, that is when an eigenvalue enters the upper spectral continuum. The potential may be assumed to be zero at large negative and positive times. The rigorous treatment of this effect has been lacking since the pioneering work of Beck, Steinwedel and Suessmann in 1963 and Gershtein and Zeldovich in 1970.

Adiabatic Pair Creation in Heavy Ion and Laser Fields

The planned generation of lasers and heavy ion colliders renews the hope to see electron-positron pair creation in strong classical fields (so called spontaneous pair creation). This adiabatic relativistic effect has however not been described in a unified manner. We discuss here the theory of adiabatic pair creation yielding the momentum distribution of scattered pairs in overcritical fields. Our conclusion about the possibility of adiabatic pair creation is different from earlier predictions for laser fields.

Generalized Eigenfunctions for critical potentials with small perturbations

We estimate the behavior of the generalized eigenfunctions of critical Dirac operators (which are Dirac operators with eigenfunctions and/or resonances for $E=m$) plus small perturbations in the potential. The results also apply for other differential operators (for example Schrödinger operators).

The Flux-Across-Surfaces Theorem under conditions on the scattering state

The flux-across-surfaces theorem (FAST) describes the outgoing asymptotics of the quantum flux density of a scattering state. The FAST has been proven for potential scattering under conditions on the outgoing asymptote $ψ_{\text{out}}$ (and of course under suitable conditions on the scattering potential). In this article we prove the FAST under conditions on the scattering state itself. In the proof we will establish also new mapping properties of the wave operators.
