Energy and particle currents in a driven integrable system

We study the ratio of the energy and particle currents ($j^E/j^N$) in an integrable one dimensional system of interacting fermions. Both currents are driven by a finite (nonzero) dc electric field. In doped insulators, where the local conserved quantities saturate the so called Mazur bound on the charge stiffness, $j^E/j^N$ agrees with the linear--response theory, even though such agreement may be violated for each current alone. However, in the metallic regime with a non-saturated Mazur bound, the ratio $j^E/j^N$ in a driven system is shown to be much larger than predicted by the linear--response theory.

Memory function approach to in-plane anisotropic resistivity in the antiferromagnetic phase of iron arsenide superconductors

We theoretically examine anisotropy of in-plane resistivity in the striped antiferromagnetic phase of an iron arsenide superconductor by applying a memory function approach to the ordered phase with isotropic nonmagnetic impurity. We find that the anisotropy of the scattering rate is independent of carrier density when the topology of the Fermi surface is changed after the introduction of holes. On the other hand, the anisotropy of the Drude weight monotonically decreases reflecting the distortion of the Dirac Fermi surface and eventually leads to the reverse of anisotropy of resistivity, being consistent with experiment. The origin of the anisotropy is thus attributed to the interplay of impurity scattering and anisotropic electronic states.

Energy current and energy fluctuations in driven quantum wires

We discuss the energy current and the energy fluctuations in an isolated quantum wire driven far from equilibrium. The system consists of interacting spinless fermions and is driven by a time--dependent magnetic flux. The energy current is defined by the continuity equation for the energy density which is derived both for homogeneous as well as for inhomogeneous systems. Since the total energy is not conserved in the driven system, the continuity equation includes the source terms which are shown to represent the Joule heating effects. For short times and weak drivings the energy current agrees with the linear response theory. For stronger fields or longer times of driving the system enters the quasiequilibrium regime when the energy current gradually diminishes due to the heating effects. Finally, for even stronger driving the energy current is shown to undergo a damped Bloch oscillations. The energy spread also increases upon driving. However, the time--dependence of this quantity in the low field regime is quite unexpected since it is determined mostly by the time of driving being quite independent of the instantaneous energy of the system.

Eigenstate thermalization within isolated spin-chain systems

The thermalization phenomenon and many-body quantum statistical properties are studied on the example of several observables in isolated spin-chain systems, both integrable and generic non-integrable ones. While diagonal matrix elements for non-integrable models comply with the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH), the integrable systems show evident deviations and similarity to properties of noninteracting many-fermion models. The finite-size scaling reveals that the crossover between two regimes is given by a scale closely related to the scattering length. Low-frequency off-diagonal matrix elements related to d.c. transport quantities in a generic system also follow the behavior analogous to the ETH, however unrelated to the one of diagonal elements.

Ultrafast charge recombination in photoexcited Mott-Hubbard insulator

We present a calculation of the recombination rate of the excited holon-doublon pairs based on the two-dimensional model relevant for undoped cuprates which shows that fast processes, observed in pump-probe experiments on Mott-Hubbard insulators in picosecond range, can be explained even quantitatively with the multi-magnon emission. The precondition is the existence of the Mott-Hubbard bound exciton of the s-type. We find that its decay is exponentially dependent on the Mott-Hubbard gap and on the magnon energy, with a small prefactor which can be traced back to strong correlations and consequently large exciton-magnon coupling.

Dielectric breakdown in spin polarized Mott insulator

Nonlinear response of a Mott insulator to external electric field, corresponding to dielectric breakdown phenomenon, is studied within of a one-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model. It is shown that in the limit of nearly spin polarized insulator the decay rate of the ground state into excited holon-doublon pairs can be evaluated numerically as well to high accuracy analytically. Results show that the threshold field depends on the charge gap as $F_{th} \propto Δ^{3/2}$. Numerical results on small systems indicate on the persistence of a similar mechanism for the breakdown for decreasing magnetization down to unpolarised system.

Finite-temperature Drude weight within the anisotropic Heisenberg chain

Finite-temperature Drude weight (spin stiffness) D(T) is evaluated within the anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on a chain using the exact diagonalization for small systems. It is shown that odd-side chains allow for more reliable scaling and results, in particular, if one takes into account corrections due to low-frequency finite-size anomalies. At high T and zero magnetization D is shown to scale to zero approaching the isotropic point Δ=1. On the other hand, for Δ>2 at all magnetizations D is nearly exhausted with the overlap with the conserved energy current. Results for the T variation D(T) are also presented.
