On the Renormalization in Conformal Quantum Gravity

One-loop divergences in classically conformal theory in curved spacetime is a nontrivial issue if the theory under consideration possesses gauge invariance. In this case, quantization involves introducing the gauge-fixing term and the action of ghosts, both of which are not conformal. The formal proof of the conformal invariant renormalizability in this situation, including interacting theories, has been given in the paper from 1984 by one of the present authors. Owing to BRST symmetry, the contributions of the gauge-fixing and ghost sectors to the conformal variation of the effective action cancel each other. This cancellation does not hold in the finite part of the one-loop and higher-loops effective action, that results in the anomaly. In this paper, we extend the early results on conformal matter fields in external gravitational field and apply them to conformal quantum gravity, including the case of conformal gravity coupled to other conformal matter fields. The gauge-fixing in the Weyl-squared gravity is more complicated, nevertheless, the proof of the one-loop conformal invariant renormalization using BRST symmetry is possible. As a preliminary to conformal quantum gravity, we also present a detailed general proof of conformal invariant one-loop divergences in the corresponding semiclassical theory.

Vacuum stress-tensor in SSB theories

The renormalized energy-momentum tensor of vacuum has been deeply explored many years ago. The main result of these studies was that such a tensor should satisfy the conservation laws which reflects the covariance of the theory in the presence of loop corrections. In view of this general result we address two important questions, namely how to implement the momentum cut-off in a covariant way and whether this general result holds in the theory with Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking. In the last case some new interesting details arise and although the calculations are more involved we show that the final result satisfies the conservation laws.

Gauge models in modified triplectic quantization

We apply the modified triplectic formalism for quantizing several popular gauge models - non-abelian antisymmetric tensor field model, W2-gravity and two-dimensional gravity with dynamical torsion. The explicit solutions are obtained for the generating equations of the quantum action and the gauge-fixing functional. Using these solutions we construct the vacuum functional and obtain the corresponding transformations of the extended BRST symmetry.

On gauge fixing in the Lagrangian formalism of superfield BRST quantization

We propose a modification of the gauge-fixing procedure in the Lagrangian method of superfield BRST quantization for general gauge theories which simultaneously provides a natural generalization of the well-known BV quantization scheme as far as gauge-fixing is concerned. A superfield form of BRST symmetry for the vacuum functional is found. The gauge-independence of the S-matrix is established.

A proposal for a generalized canonical osp(1,2) quantization of dynamical systems with constraints

The aim of this paper is to consider a possibility of constructing for arbitrary dynamical systems with first-class constraints a generalized canonical quantization method based on the osp(1,2) supersymmetry principle. This proposal can be considered as a counterpart to the osp(1,2)-covariant Lagrangian quantization method introduced recently by Geyer, Lavrov and Mülsch. The gauge dependence of Green's functions is studied. It is shown that if the parameter m^2 of the osp(1,2) superalgebra is not equal to zero then the vacuum functional and S-matrix depend on the gauge. In the limit $m\to 0$ the gauge independence of vacuum functional and S - matrix are restored. The Ward identities related to the osp(1,2) symmetry are derived.
