On energy-momentum tensor for gravitational waves in $f(R)$ gravity

The classical Isaacson's procedure for describing back-reaction of the averaged energy-momentum for high frequency gravitational waves is generalized to the $f(R)$ gravity case. From the beginning it is assumed that an initial background could be arbitrary one. Then, we restrict the background to be de Sitter, which is a novelty regarding the study of a back-reaction in $f(R)$ gravity. Consideration of the de Sitter space as a background spacetime allows us to provide the averaging procedure completely. Using the results on the de Sitter space and generalizing the Isaacson procedure, we construct the averaged energy-momentum on an additionally curved (averaged) background. Consistency tests for de Sitter spacetime are performed both at the background and perturbative regimes. Our results generalize previous studies in which the authors consider the flat (Minkowski) spacetime as the initial background.

Bianchi I cosmological solutions in teleparallel gravity

In the present paper we discuss dynamic of anisotropic Bianchi I Universe filled by the perfect fluid in teleparallel $f(T)$-gravity. By using as analytical as numerical approaches we confirm the main results of previous authors such as presence of future isotropic attractor and find a number of the new one such as existence of essential number of bounce solutions and possibility to construct late time acceleration without any specific matter.

Spin connection and cosmological perturbations in scalar-torsion gravity

In this paper we generalize our previous results on spin connection for the linear scalar cosmological perturbation in $f(T)$ theory to wider class of theories which includes a scalar field $Φ$ non-minimally coupled to torsion, and allows $Φ$-dependence of the function $f$. The case of $f_{TT}=0$, with a scalar field non-minimally coupled to torsion needs a special treatment. In both considered cases we derive self-consistent equations of motion for cosmological perturbation using a solution for non-trivial spin connection.

Cosmology in modified $f(R,T)$-gravity

In present paper we propose further modification of $f(R,T)$-gravity (where $T$ is trace of energy-momentum tensor) by introducing higher derivatives matter fields. We discuss stability conditions in proposed theory and find restrictions for parameters to prevent appearance of main type of instabilities, such as ghost-like and tachyon-like instabilities. We derive cosmological equations for a few representations of theory and discuss main differences with convenient $f(R,T)$-gravity without higher derivatives. It is demonstrated that in presented theory inflationary scenarios appears quite naturally even in the dust-filled Universe without any additional matter sources. Finally we construct inflationary model in one of the simplest representation of the theory, calculate main inflationary parameters and find that it may be in quite agreement with observations.

Phase Space Analysis of the Accelerating Multi-fluid Universe

We study in detail the phase space of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe filled with various cosmological fluids which may or may not interact. We use various expressions for the equation of state, and we analyze the physical significance of the resulting fixed points. In addition we discuss the effects of the stability or an instability of some fixed points. Moreover we study an interesting phenomenological scenario for which there is an oscillating interaction between the dark energy and dark matter fluid. As we demonstrate, in the context of the model we use, at early times the interaction is negligible and it starts to grow as the cosmic time approaches the late-time era. Also the cosmological dynamical system is split into two distinct dynamical systems which have two distinct de Sitter fixed points, with the early-time de Sitter point being unstable. This framework gives an explicit example of the unification of the early-time with late-time acceleration. Finally, we discuss in some detail the physical interpretation of the various models we present in this work.

Deceleration versus Acceleration Universe in Different Frames of $F(R)$ Gravity

In this paper we study the occurrence of accelerating universe versus decelerating universe between the F(R) gravity frame (Jordan frame) and non-minimally coupled scalar field theory frame, and the minimally coupled scalar field theory frame (Einstein frame) for various models. As we show, if acceleration is imposed in one frame, it will not necessarily correspond to an accelerating metric when transformed in another frame. As we will demonstrate, this issue is model and frame-dependent but it seems there is no general scheme which permits to classify such cases.

Stability in higher-derivative matter fields theories

We discuss possible instabilities in higher-derivative matter fields theories. These theories has two free parameters $β_1$ and $β_4$. By using dynamical system approach we explicitly demonstrate that for stability of Minkowski space in expanding Universe it is need condition $β_4<0$. By using quantum field theory approach we also find additional restriction for parameters $β_1>-\frac{1}{3}β_4$ which is need to avoid tachyon-like instability.

Dynamical stability of extended teleparallel gravity

We discuss modified teleparallel gravity with function $f(T,T_G)$ in the action, where function depend on two arguments: torsion scalar $T$ and analogue of Gauss-Bonnet invariant $T_G$. In contradistinction to usual teleparallel gravity $f(T)$, this theory contains higher derivative terms, which may produce different instabilities. We discuss Minkowski stability problem in such kind of theories and explicitly demonstrate that for stability must be $f_T(0,0)<0$, $f_{T_GT_G}>0$. We apply these restrictions for the few types of functions discussed by the early authors.

Inflation in a conformally-invariant two-scalar-field theory with an extra $R^2$ term

We explore inflationary cosmology in a theory where there are two scalar fields which non-minimally couple to the Ricci scalar and an additional $R^2$ term, which breaks the conformal invariance. Particularly, we investigate the slow-roll inflation in the case of one dynamical scalar field and that of two dynamical scalar fields. It is explicitly demonstrated that the spectral index of scalar mode of the density perturbations and the tensor-to-scalar ratio can be consistent with the observations acquired by the recent Planck satellite. The graceful exit from the inflationary stage is achieved as in convenient $R^2$ gravity. We also propose the generalization of the model under discussion with three scalar fields.

Dynamical stability of Minkowski space in higher order gravity

We discuss the Minkowski stability problem in modified gravity by using dynamical system approach. The method to investigate dynamical stability of Minkowski space was proposed. This method was applied for some modified gravity theories, such as $f(R)$ gravity, $f(R)+αR\Box R$ gravity and scalar-tensor gravity models with non-minimal kinetic coupling. It was shown that in the case of $f(R)$ gravity Minkowski solution asymptotically stable in ghost-free ($f'>0$) and tachyon-free ($f">0$) theories in expanding Universe with respect to isotropic and basic anisotropic perturbations. In the case of higher order gravity with $αR\Box R$ correction conditions of Minkowski stability with respect to isotropic perturbations significantly different: $f'(0)<0$, $f"(0)<0$ and $3f'(0)+f"(0)^2/α>0$. And in the case of scalar-tensor gravity with non-minimal kinetic coupling Minkowski solution asymptotically stable in expanding Universe with respect to isotropic perturbations of metric. Moreover the developed method may be used for finding additional restrictions on parameters of different modified gravity theories.

From inflation to dark energy in the non-minimal modified gravity

We consider the modified gravity non-minimally coupled with matter Lagrangian for the description of early-time and late-time universe. Such $F(R)$ ($F(G)$) gravity in the absence of non-minimal coupling is viable theory which passes the local tests and reproduces the $Λ$CDM era. For qualitatively similar choice of non-minimal gravitational coupling function it is shown that the unified description of early-time inflation and late-time cosmic acceleration is possible. It is interesting that matter (scalar) which supports the inflationary era is gravitationally screened at late times. Hence, it may be effectively invisible at current universe.

Dark energy from modified F(R)-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

The modified F(R)-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity is proposed as dark energy model. The reconstruction program for such theory is developed. It is explicitly demonstrated that the known classical universe expansion history (deceleration epoch, transition to acceleration and effective quintessence, phantom or cosmological constant era) may naturally occur in such unified theory for some (reconstructed) classes of scalar potentials. Gauss-Bonnet assisted dark energy is also proposed. The possibility of cosmic acceleration is studied there.
