Error estimates for a splitting integrator for abstract semilinear boundary coupled systems

We derive a numerical method, based on operator splitting, to abstract parabolic semilinear boundary coupled systems. The method decouples the linear components which describe the coupling and the dynamics in the bulk and on the surface, and treats the nonlinear terms by approximating the integral in the variation of constants formula. The convergence proof is based on estimates for a recursive formulation of the error, using the parabolic smoothing property of analytic semigroups and a careful comparison of the exact and approximate flows. Numerical experiments, including problems with dynamic boundary conditions, reporting on convergence rates are presented.

A second-order Magnus-type integrator for evolution equations with delay

We rewrite abstract delay equations to nonautonomous abstract Cauchy problems allowing us to introduce a Magnus-type integrator for the former. We prove the second-order convergence of the obtained Magnus-type integrator. We also show that if the differential operators involved admit a common invariant set for their generated semigroups, then the Magnus-type integrator will respect this invariant set as well, allowing for much weaker assumptions to obtain the desired convergence. As an illustrative example we consider a space-dependent epidemic model with latent period and diffusion.

Operator splitting for abstract Cauchy problems with dynamical boundary condition

In this work we study operator splitting methods for a certain class of coupled abstract Cauchy problems, where the coupling is such that one of the problems prescribes a "boundary type" extra condition for the other one. The theory of one-sided coupled operator matrices provides an excellent framework to study the well-posedness of such problems. We show that with this machinery even operator splitting methods can be treated conveniently and rather efficiently. We consider three specific examples: the Lie (sequential), the Strang and the weighted splitting, and prove the convergence of these methods along with error bounds under fairly general assumptions.

Operator splitting for dissipative delay equations

We investigate Lie-Trotter product formulae for abstract nonlinear evolution equations with delay. Using results from the theory of nonlinear contraction semigroups in Hilbert spaces, we explain the convergence of the splitting procedure. The order of convergence is also investigated in detail, and some numerical illustrations are presented.

Stability and Convergence of Product Formulas for Operator Matrices

We present easy to verify conditions implying stability estimates for operator matrix splittings which ensure convergence of the associated Trotter, Strang and weighted product formulas. The results are applied to inhomogeneous abstract Cauchy problems and to boundary feedback systems.

Operator splitting for nonautonomous delay equations

We provide a general product formula for the solution of nonautonomous abstract delay equations. After having shown the convergence we obtain estimates on the order of convergence for differentiable history functions. Finally, the theoretical results are demonstrated on some typical numerical examples.

Operator splitting for non-autonomous evolution equations

We provide general product formulas for the solutions of non-autonomous abstract Cauchy problems. The main technical tool is the application of evolution semigroup methods, allowing the direct application of existing results on autonomous problems. The results are then illustrated by the example of a imaginary time Schrödinger equation with time dependent potential. We also obtain convergence rates for the Strang-splitting applied to this problem.

Operator splittings and spatial approximations for evolution equations

The convergence of various operator splitting procedures, such as the sequential, the Strang and the weighted splitting, is investigated in the presence of a spatial approximation. To this end a variant of Chernoff's product formula is proved. The methods are applied to abstract partial delay differential equations.
