On propagation of chaos for the Fisher-Rao gradient flow in entropic mean-field optimization

We consider a class of optimization problems on the space of probability measures motivated by the mean-field approach to studying neural networks. Such problems can be solved by constructing continuous-time gradient flows that converge to the minimizer of the energy function under consideration, and then implementing discrete-time algorithms that approximate the flow. In this work, we focus on the Fisher-Rao gradient flow and we construct an interacting particle system that approximates the flow as its mean-field limit. We discuss the connection between the energy function, the gradient flow and the particle system and explain different approaches to smoothing out the energy function with an appropriate kernel in a way that allows for the particle system to be well-defined. We provide a rigorous proof of the existence and uniqueness of thus obtained kernelized flows, as well as a propagation of chaos result that provides a theoretical justification for using the corresponding kernelized particle systems as approximation algorithms in entropic mean-field optimization.

The exact region determined by Spearman's footrule, Gini's gamma and Kendall's tau

Concordance measures are used to express the degree of association between random variables. Practitioners may use several distinct concordance measures to narrow the space of possible dependence structures. Consequently, the relations between different (weak) concordance measures have been extensively studied in recent years. The goal of this paper is to study the relation between Kendall's tau, Gini's gamma and Spearman's footrule. In particular, we describe the exact region determined by these three measures, using shuffles of $M$ and ordinal sums of copulas. We also provide the formulas for five main (weak) concordance measures and Chatterjee's xi of ordinal sums of copulas.

Marshall-Olkin copulas revisited

Almost seventy years old Marshall-Olkin copulas, then wider Marshall copulas, and finally even wider shock model (SM) copulas constitute a substantial part of nowadays copula theory due to numerous applications. Recently, Christian Genest with some coauthors introduced a new stochastic model for a special subclass of SM copulas which gives not only a new angle on these copulas but also widens the range of applications. In this paper we extend this type of stochastic model to all known subclasses of SM copulas. We also introduce a novel class of SM copulas and extend the new stochastic model to this class as well.

On subgeometric ergodicity of regime-switching diffusion processes

In this article, we discuss subgeometric ergodicity of a class of regime-switching diffusion processes. We derive conditions on the drift and diffusion coefficients, and the switching mechanism which result in subgeometric ergodicity of the corresponding semigroup with respect to the total variation distance as well as a class of Wasserstein distances. At the end, subgeometric ergodicity of certain classes of regime-switching Markov processes with jumps is also discussed.

On Sub-Geometric Ergodicity of Diffusion Processes

In this article, we discuss ergodicity properties of a diffusion process given through an Itô stochastic differential equation. We identify conditions on the drift and diffusion coefficients which result in sub-geometric ergodicity of the corresponding semigroup with respect to the total variation distance. We also prove sub-geometric contractivity and ergodicity of the semigroup under a class of Wasserstein distances. Finally, we discuss sub-geometric ergodicity of two classes of Markov processes with jumps.
