$H^\infty$-calculus for the Dirichlet Laplacian on conical domains

We establish boundedness of the $H^\infty$-calculus for the Dirichlet Laplacian on conical domains in $\mathbb{R}^d$ and corresponding wedges on $L^p$-spaces with mixed weights. The weights are based on both the distance to the boundary and the distance to the tip/edge of the cone/wedge. Our main motivation comes from the study of stochastic partial differential equations and associated degenerate deterministic parabolic equations on non-smooth domains. As a consequence of our analysis, we also obtain maximal $L^p$-regularity for the Poisson equation on conical domains in appropriate weighted Sobolev spaces.

Sobolev spaces with mixed weights and the Poisson equation on angular domains

We introduce and analyse a class of weighted Sobolev spaces with mixed weights on angular domains. The weights are based on both the distance to the boundary and the distance to the one vertex of the domain. Moreover, we show how the regularity of the Poisson equation can be analysed in the framework of these spaces by means of the Mellin transform, provided the integrability parameter equals two. Our main motivation comes from the study of stochastic partial differential equations and associated degenerate deterministic parabolic equations.

Deep neural networks overcome the curse of dimensionality in the numerical approximation of semilinear partial differential equations

We prove that deep neural networks are capable of approximating solutions of semilinear Kolmogorov PDE in the case of gradient-independent, Lipschitz-continuous nonlinearities, while the required number of parameters in the networks grow at most polynomially in both dimension $d \in \mathbb{N}$ and prescribed reciprocal accuracy $\varepsilon$. Previously, this has only been proven in the case of semilinear heat equations.

An $L_p$-theory for the stochastic heat equation on angular domains in $\mathbb{R}^2$ with mixed weights

We establish a refined $L_p$-estimate ($p\geq 2$) for the stochastic heat equation on angular domains in $\mathbb{R}^2$ with mixed weights based on both, the distance to the boundary and the distance to the vertex. This way we can capture both causes for singularities of the solution: the incompatibility of noise and boundary condition on the one hand and the influence of boundary singularities (here, the vertex) on the other hand. Higher order $L_p$-Sobolev regularity with mixed weights is also established.

On the limit regularity in Sobolev and Besov scales related to approximation theory

We study the interrelation between the limit $L_p(Ω)$-Sobolev regularity $\overline{s}_p$ of (classes of) functions on bounded Lipschitz domains $Ω\subseteq\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 2$, and the limit regularity $\overlineα_p$ within the corresponding adaptivity scale of Besov spaces $B^α_{τ,τ}(Ω)$, where $1/τ=α/d+1/p$ and $α>0$ ($p>1$ fixed). The former determines the convergence rate of uniform numerical methods, whereas the latter corresponds to the convergence rate of best $N$-term approximation. We show how additional information on the Besov or Triebel-Lizorkin regularity may be used to deduce upper bounds for $\overlineα_p$ in terms of $\overline{s}_p$ simply by means of classical embeddings and the extension of complex interpolation to suitable classes of quasi-Banach spaces due to Kalton, Mayboroda, and Mitrea (Contemp. Math. 445). The results are applied to the Poisson equation, to the $p$-Poisson problem, and to the inhomogeneous stationary Stokes problem. In particular, we show that already established results on the Besov regularity for the Poisson equation are sharp. Keywords: Non-linear approximation, adaptive methods, Besov space, Triebel-Lizorkin space, regularity of solutions, stationary Stokes equation, Poisson equation, $p$-Poisson equation, Lipschitz domain.

On the regularity of the stochastic heat equation on polygonal domains in $R^2$

We establish existence, uniqueness and higher order weighted $L_p$-Sobolev regularity for the stochastic heat equation with zero Dirichlet boundary condition on angular domains and on polygonal domains in $\mathbb{R}^2$. We use a system of mixed weights consisting of appropriate powers of the distance to the vertexes and of the distance to the boundary to measure the regularity with respect to the space variable. In this way we can capture the influence of both main sources for singularities: the incompatibility between noise and boundary condition on the one hand and the singularities of the boundary on the other hand. The range of admissible powers of the distance to the vertexes is described in terms of the maximal interior angle and is sharp.

Stochastic integration in quasi-Banach spaces

In this paper we develop a stochastic integration theory for processes with values in a quasi-Banach space. The integrator is a cylindrical Brownian motion. The main results give sufficient conditions for stochastic integrability. They are natural extensions of known results in the Banach space setting. We apply our main results to the stochastic heat equation where the forcing terms are assumed to have Besov regularity in the space variable with integrability exponent $p\in (0,1]$. The latter is natural to consider for its potential application to adaptive wavelet methods for stochastic partial differential equations.

An $L_p$-estimate for the stochastic heat equation on an angular domain in $\mathbb{R}^2$

We prove a weighted $L_p$-estimate for the stochastic convolution associated to the stochastic heat equation with zero Dirichlet boundary condition on a planar angular domain $\mathcal{D}_{κ_0}\subset\mathbb{R}^2$ with angle $κ_0\in(0,2π)$. Furthermore, we use this estimate to establish existence and uniqueness of a solution to the corresponding equation in suitable weighted $L_p$-Sobolev spaces. In order to capture the singular behaviour of the solution and its derivatives at the vertex, we use powers of the distance to the vertex as weight functions. The admissible range of weight parameters depends explicitly on the angle $κ_0$.

Besov Regularity for the Stationary Navier-Stokes Equation on Bounded Lipschitz Domains

We use the scale $B^s_τ(L_τ(Ω))$, $1/τ=s/d+1/2$, $s>0$, to study the regularity of the stationary Stokes equation on bounded Lipschitz domains $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 3$, with connected boundary. The regularity in these Besov spaces determines the order of convergence of nonlinear approximation schemes. Our proofs rely on a combination of weighted Sobolev estimates and wavelet characterizations of Besov spaces. By using Banach's fixed point theorem, we extend this analysis to the stationary Navier-Stokes equation with suitable Reynolds number and data, respectively.
