Polarized Equatorial Emission around Kerr Black Holes with Synchronized Scalar Hair. I. Direct images

We investigate the polarization properties of the direct images of a geometrically and optically thin accretion disk around fully self-consistent models of rotating Kerr black holes with synchronized bosonic hair. The presence of a massive scalar field alters the geodesic structure of the spacetime and thus leaves an imprint on the polarization of radiation emitted near the black hole horizon. To study this effect, we employ a simple analytical model of a geometrically thin accretion disk, orbiting in the equatorial plane and emitting synchrotron radiation. The main deviation from a corresponding Kerr black hole in general relativity is found to be a dephasing in the twist of the polarization vector, which is surprisingly larger for the least scalarized solutions we consider. This behavior suggests that polarization observables are primarily sensitive to local geometric and transport effects along photon trajectories rather than to the overall scalar field strength. Furthermore, our results demonstrate that while equatorial magnetic fields produce qualitatively similar polarization patterns to Kerr black holes in general relativity, vertical magnetic fields at high observer inclinations can lead to a characteristic reversal of the twist direction of the polarization vector.

Images of the Thin Accretion Disk Around Kerr Black Holes coupled to time periodic scalar fields

We investigate the orbital structure and observable appearance of rotating Kerr black holes endowed with synchronized scalar hair described by two time-periodic scalar fields with a flat target-space geometry. The presence of scalar hair enriches the geodesic structure of the spacetime relative to the Kerr case and significantly modifies the emission properties of geometrically thin Novikov-Thorne accretion disks. Combining an analysis of timelike circular orbits with backward ray tracing, we show that the normalized scalar charge governs the morphology and luminosity of both prograde and counter-rotating disks. In the strongly scalarized regime, additional light rings and modified circular-orbit regions produce multiple inner emitting zones and strongly enhanced redshift patterns that depart markedly from the Kerr prediction. The most pronounced deviations occur in the counter-rotating sector, where scalar hair generates inner retrograde radiative rings with substantially enhanced luminosity and distinctive frequency-shift signatures. Even when the spacetime approaches the Kerr geometry at weaker scalarization, the retrograde disk remains highly sensitive to the presence of scalar hair. Our results demonstrate that geometrically thin accretion disks can provide robust observational diagnostics of synchronized scalar hair and may offer a promising avenue for testing tensor-multi-scalar gravity with future horizon-scale black-hole imaging observations.

Shadows of rotating hairy Kerr black holes coupled to time periodic scalar fields with non-flat target space

We study the shadows cast by rotating hairy black holes with two non-trivial time-periodic scalar fields having a non-flat Gaussian curvature of the target space spanned by the scalar fields. Such black holes are a viable alternative to the Kerr black hole, having a much more complicated geodesic structure and resulting shadows. We investigate how a nontrivial Gauss curvature alters the pictures for different amounts of scalar hair around the black holes, quantified by a normalized charge. Our results show that for high values of this charge, close to a boson star limit, chaotic shadows are observed with multiple small disconnected components for all considered Gaussian curvatures. For moderately large amounts of scalar hair and corresponding normalized charge, although the shadows still exhibit chaotic behavior, a dominant shadow component emerges, the size and shape of which are substantially influenced by the Gaussian curvature. For instance, highly chaotic shadows for flat target space, start developing a large central shadow region with the increase of the Gauss curvature even for black holes with substantially heavy scalar hair. For lower values of the normalized charge, the shadows resemble qualitatively the Kerr black hole while the Gaussian curvature has a small impact on their properties.

Charged Gauss-Bonnet black holes with curvature induced scalarization in the extended scalar-tensor theories

Recently new scalarized black hole solutions were constructed in the extended scalar-tensor-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, where the scalar field is sourced by the curvature of the spacetime via the Gauss-Bonnet invariant. A natural extension of these results is to consider the case of nonzero black hole charge. In addition we have explored a large set of coupling functions between the Gauss-Bonnet invariant and the scalar field, that was not done until now even in the uncharged case, in order to understand better the behavior of the solutions and the deviations from pure general relativity. The results show that in the case of nonzero black hole charge two bifurcation points can exist - one at larger masses where the scalarized solutions bifurcated from the Reissner-Nordstrom one, and one at smaller masses where the scalar charge of the solutions decreases again to zero and the branch merges again with the GR one. All of the constructed scalarized branches do not reach an extremal limit. We have examined the entropy of the black holes with nontrivial scalar field and it turns out, that similar to the uncharged case, the fundamental branch which possesses scalar field with no nodes is thermodynamically favorable over the Reissner-Nordstrom one for the considered coupling functions, while the rest of the branches possessing scalar field with one or more zeros have lower entropy compared to the GR case and they are supposed to be unstable.

The Shadow of a Rotating Traversable Wormhole

We explore the shadow of certain class of rotating traversable wormholes within classical general relativity. The images depend on the angular momentum of the wormhole, and the inclination angle of the observer. We compare the results with the case of the Kerr black hole. For small angular momenta the shadows for the two solutions are nearly identical, however with the increasing of the angular momentum they start to deviate considerably.

Charged black holes on Kaluza-Klein bubbles

We construct exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton field equations in five dimensions, which describe general configurations of charged and static black holes sitting on a Kaluza-Klein bubble. More specifically we discuss the configurations describing two black holes sitting on a Kaluza-Klein bubble and also the general charged static black Saturn balanced by a Kaluza-Klein bubble. A straightforward extension of the solution generating technique leads to a new solution describing the charged static black Saturn on the Taub-bolt instanton. We compute the conserved charges and investigate some of the thermodynamic properties of these systems.

New Magnetized Squashed Black Holes -- Thermodynamics and Hawking Radiation

We construct a new exact solution in the 5D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity describing a magnetized squashed black hole. We calculate its physical characteristics, and derive the Smarr-like relations. The Hawking radiation of the solution is also investigated by calculating the greybody factor for the emission of massless scalar particles in the low-energy regime. In distinction to the case of asymptotically flat magnetized black holes, the thermodynamical characteristics and the Hawking radiation of the solution depend on the external magnetic field, and consequently can be tuned by its variation.

Magnetized Black Hole on Taub-Nut Instanton

We present an exact solution to the 5D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton equations describing a static black hole on Taub-Nut instanton. By construction the solution does not possess a charge, but is magnetized along the compact dimension. As a limit we obtain a new regular solution representing a magnetized Kaluza- Klein monopole. We investigate the relevant physical properties and derive the Smarr-like relations.

Rotating black ring on Kaluza-Klein bubbles

We construct a new exact solution to the 5D Einstein equations describing rotating black ring with a single angular momentum surrounded by two Kaluza-Klein bubbles. The solution is generated by 2-soliton Bäcklund transformation. Its physical properties are computed and analyzed. The corresponding static solution, the rotating black string and the boosted black string are reproduced as limits.
