Sterile Neutrinos with Altered Dispersion Relations as an Explanation for Neutrino Anomalies

Recently the MiniBooNE Collaboration has confirmed its anomalous excess in (anti)muon- to (anti)electron-neutrino oscillation data. Combined with long-standing results from the LSND experiment this amounts to a 6.1 sigma evidence for new physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper we develop a framework with 3 active and 3 sterile neutrinos with altered dispersion relations that provides a mechanism to explain these anomalies without being in conflict with the absence of anomalous neutrino disappearance in other neutrino oscillation experiments.

Discriminating sterile neutrinos and unitarity violation with CP invariants

We present a new method to analyze upcoming results in the search for CP violating neutrino oscillations. The CP violating amplitudes $\mathcal{A}_{αβ}^{kj}$ provide parametrization independent observables, which will be accessible by experiments soon. The strong prediction of a unique $\mathcal{A}_{αβ}^{kj}$ (the Jarlskog invariant) in case of the standard three neutrino model does not hold in models with new physics beyond the Standard Model. Nevertheless there are still correlations among the amplitudes depending on the specific model. Due to these correlations it is possible to reject specific new physics models by determining only 3 of the CP violating amplitudes.

Flavor ratios of extragalactical neutrinos and neutrino shortcuts in extra dimensions

The recent measurement of high energy extragalactic neutrinos by the IceCube Collaboration has opened a new window to probe non-standard neutrino properties. Among other effects, sterile neutrino altered dispersion relations (ADRs) due to shortcuts in an extra dimension can significantly affect astrophysical flavor ratios. We discuss two limiting cases of this effect, first active-sterile neutrino oscillations with a constant ADR potential and second an MSW-like resonant conversion arising from geodesics oscillating around the brane in an asymmetrically warped extra dimension. We demonstrate that the second case has the potential to suppress significantly the flux of specific flavors such as $ν_μ$ or $ν_τ$ at high energies.
