Noncommutative geometry inspired charged black holes

We find a new, non-commutative geometry inspired, solution of the coupled Einstein-Maxwell field equations describing a variety of charged, self-gravitating objects, including extremal and non-extremal black holes. The metric smoothly interpolates between deSitter geometry, at short distance, and Reissner-Nordstroem geometry far away from the origin. Contrary to the ordinary Reissner-Nordstroem spacetime there is no curvature singularity in the origin neither "naked" nor shielded by horizons. We investigate both the Hawking process and pair creation in this new scenario.

Kinetic description of classical matter infalling in black holes

A popular aspect of black holes physics is the mathematical analogy between their laws, coming from general relativity and the laws of thermodynamics. The analogy is achieved by identifying a suitable set of observables, precisely: \emph{(a)} $E=M$ (being $E$ the thermodynamic free energy and $M$ the mass of the BH), \emph{(b)} $T=ακ$ (with $T$ the absolute temperature, $κ$ the so-called surface gravity on event horizon and $% α$ a suitable dimensional constant) and \emph{(c)} $S=(1/8πα)A $ (where $S$ is the thermodynamic entropy of the black hole and $A$ the surface of the event horizon). However, despite numerous investigations and efforts spent on the subject, the theoretical foundations of such identifications between physical quantities belonging to apparently unrelated frameworks are not yet clear. The goal of this work is to provide the contribution to the black hole entropy, coming from matter in the black hole exterior. We propose a classical solution for the kinetic description of matter falling into a black hole, which permits to evaluate both the kinetic entropy and the entropy production rate of classical infalling matter at the event horizon. The formulation is based on a relativistic kinetic description for classical particles in the presence of an event horizon. An H-theorem is established which holds for arbitrary models of black holes and is valid also in the presence of contracting event horizons.

Non-linear gyrokinetic theory of magnetoplasmas

A crucial issue in relativistic plasma, particularly relevant in the astrophysical context, is the description of highly magnetized plasmas based on a covariant formulation of gyrokinetic dynamics. An interesting case in question is that in which the background electric field (produced either by the same plasma of by other sources) results suitably small (or vanishing) with respect to the magnetic field, while at the same time short-wavelength EM perturbations can be present. The purpose of this work is to extend the relativistic gyrokinetic theory developed by Beklemishev \textit{et al.} [1999-2005] to include, in particular, also the treatment of such a case. We intend to show that this requires the development of a perturbative expansion involving simultaneously both the particle 4-position vector and the corresponding \textit{4-velocity vector}. For this purpose a synchronous form of the relativistic Hamilton variational principle is adopted.

Inverse kinetic theory for quantum hydrodynamic equations

We propose a solution for the inverse kinetic theory for quantum hydrodynamic equations associated to the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation. It is shown that an inverse kinetic equation of the form of the Vlasov equation can be non-uniquely determined under suitable mathematical prescriptions.

Trace Anomaly in Quantum Spacetime Manifold

In this paper we investigate the trace anomaly in a spacetime where single events are de-localized as a consequence of short distance quantum coordinate fluctuations. We obtain a modified form of heat kernel asymptotic expansion which does not suffer from short distance divergences. Calculation of the trace anomaly is performed using an IR regulator in order to circumvent the absence of UV infinities. The explicit form of the trace anomaly is presented and the corresponding 2D Polyakov effective action and energy momentumtensor are obtained. The vacuum expectation value of the energy momentum tensor in the Boulware, Hartle-Hawking and Unruh vacua is explicitly calculated in a (rt)-section of a recently found, noncommutative geometry inspired, Schwarzschild-like solution of the Einstein equations. The standard short distance divergences in the vacuum expectation values are regularized in agreement with the absence of UV infinities removed by quantum coordinate fluctuations.

Noncommutative geometry inspired Schwarzschild black hole

We investigate the behavior of a noncommutative radiating Schwarzschild black hole. It is shown that coordinate noncommutativity cures usual problems encountered in the description of the terminal phase of black hole evaporation. More in detail, we find that: the evaporation end-point is a zero temperature extremal black hole even in the case of electrically neutral, non-rotating, objects; there exists a finite maximum temperature that the black hole can reach before cooling down to absolute zero; there is no curvature singularity at the origin, rather we obtain a regular DeSitter core at short distance.

Noncommutative nonsingular black holes

Adopting noncommutative spacetime coordinates, we determined a new solution of Einstein equations for a static, spherically symmetric matter source. The limitations of the conventional Schwarzschild solution, due to curvature singularities, are overcome. As a result, the line element is endowed of a regular DeSitter core at the origin and of two horizons even in the considered case of electrically neutral, nonrotating matter. Regarding the Hawking evaporation process, the intriguing new feature is that the black hole is allowed to reach only a finite maximum temperature, before cooling down to an absolute zero extremal state. As a consequence the quantum back reaction is negligible.

The fate of radiating black holes in noncommutative geometry

We investigate the behavior of a radiating Schwarzschild black hole toy-model in a 2D noncommutative spacetime. It is shown that coordinate noncommutativity leads to: i) the existence of a minimal non-zero mass to which black hole can shrink; ii) a finite maximum temperature that the black hole can reach before cooling down to absolute zero; iii) the absence of any curvature singularity. The proposed scenario offers a possible solution to conventional difficulties when describing terminal phase of black hole evaporation.

Microscopic statistical description of classical matter around black holes

The problem of statistical description of classical matter, represented by a N-body system of relativistic point particles falling into a black hole, is investigated, adopting a classical framework. A covariant microscopic statistical description is developed for the classical particle system by introducing the definition of observer-related N-particle microscopic distribution function and by suitably extending to general relativity the concept of Gibbs microscopic entropy. The corresponding entropy production rate is calculated taking into account the presence of an event horizon and proven to obey, for N>>1, an exact microscopic H-theorem which holds for arbitrary geometries.

A model of radiating black hole in noncommutative geometry

The phenomenology of a radiating Schwarzschild black hole is analyzed in a noncommutative spacetime. It is shown that noncommutativity does not depend on the intensity of the curvature. Thus we legitimately introduce noncommutativity in the weak field limit by a coordinate coherent state approach. The new interesting results are the following: i) the existence of a minimal non-zero mass to which black hole can shrink; ii) a finite maximum temperature that the black hole can reach before cooling down to absolute zero; iii) the absence of any curvature singularity. The proposed scenario offers a possible solution to conventional difficulties when describing terminal phase of black hole evaporation.

Theory of stochastic transitions in area preserving maps

A famous aspect of discrete dynamical systems defined by area-preserving maps is the physical interpretation of stochastic transitions occurring locally which manifest themselves through the destruction of invariant KAM curves and the local or global onset of chaos. Despite numerous previous investigations (see in particular Chirikov, Greene, Percival, Escande and Doveil and MacKay) based on different approaches, several aspects of the phenomenon still escape a complete understanding and a rigorous description. In particular Greene's approach is based on several conjectures, one of which is that the stochastic transition leading to the destruction of the last KAM curve in the standard map is due the linear destabilization of the elliptic points belonging to a peculiar family of invariants sets {I(m,n)} (rational iterates) having rational winding numbers and associated to the last KAM curve. Purpose of this work is to analyze the nonlinear phenomena leading to the stochastic transition in the standard map and their effect on the destabilization of the invariant sets associated to the KAM curves, leading, ultimately, to the destruction of the KAM curves themselves.

Relativistic kinetic theory of magnetoplasmas

Recently, an increasing interest in astrophysical as well as laboratory plasmas has been manifested in reference to the existence of relativistic flows, related in turn to the production of intense electric fields in magnetized systems. Such phenomena require their description in the framework of a consistent relativistic kinetic theory, rather than on relativistic MHD equations, subject to specific closure conditions. The purpose of this work is to apply the relativistic single-particle guiding-center theory developed by Beklemishev and Tessarotto, including the nonlinear treatment of small-wavelength EM perturbations which may naturally arise in such systems. As a result, a closed set of relativistic gyrokinetic equations, consisting of the collisionless relativistic kinetic equation, expressed in hybrid gyrokinetic variables, and the averaged Maxwell's equations, is derived for an arbitrary four-dimensional coordinate system.

Canonical Lie-transform method in Hamiltonian gyrokinetics: a new approach

The well-known gyrokinetic problem regards the perturbative expansion related to the dynamics of a charged particle subject to fast gyration motion due to the presence of a strong magnetic field. Although a variety of approaches have been formulated in the past to this well known problem, surprisingly a purely canonical approach based on Lie transform methods is still missing. This paper aims to fill in this gap and provide at the same time new insight in Lie-transform approaches.

Generalized canonical approach to gyrokinetic theory

We face the well-known gyrokinetic problem, which arises in the description of the dynamics of a charged particle subject to fast gyration for the presence of a strong electromagnetic field. The customary approach to gyrokinetic theory, using canonical variables or identifying them ``a posteriori'' by means of Darboux theorem, leads to potential complications and ambiguities due to the fact that canonical coordinates are field-related. Here we propose an innovative formulation to construct gyrokinetic canonical variables based on the introduction of a new definition of canonical transformation. The new approach permits to shed light on this often controversial issue.

Vacuum polarization in two-dimensional static spacetimes and dimensional reduction

We obtain an analytic approximation for the effective action of a quantum scalar field in a general static two-dimensional spacetime. We apply this to the dilaton gravity model resulting from the spherical reduction of a massive, non-minimally coupled scalar field in the four-dimensional Schwarzschild geometry. Careful analysis near the event horizon shows the resulting two-dimensional system to be regular in the Hartle-Hawking state for general values of the field mass, coupling, and angular momentum, while at spatial infinity it reduces to a thermal gas at the black-hole temperature.
