Bargmann-Fock realization of the noncommutative torus

We give an interpretation of the Bargman transform as a correspondence between state spaces that is analogous to commonly considered intertwiners in representation theory of finite groups. We observe that the non-commutative torus is nothing else that the range of the star-exponential for the Heisenberg group within the Kirillov's orbit method context. We deduce from this a realization of the non-commutative torus as acting on a Fock space of entire functions.

Deformation Quantization for Heisenberg Supergroup

We construct a non-formal deformation machinery for the actions of the Heisenberg supergroup analogue to the one developed by M. Rieffel for the actions of R^d. However, the method used here differs from Rieffel's one: we obtain a Universal Deformation Formula for the actions of R^{m|n} as a byproduct of Weyl ordered Kirillov's orbit method adapted to the graded setting. To do so, we have to introduce the notion of C*-superalgebra, which is compatible with the deformation, and which can be seen as corresponding to noncommutative superspaces. We also use this construction to interpret the renormalizability of a noncommutative Quantum Field Theory.

Homotopes of Symmetric Spaces I. Construction by Algebras with Two Involutions

We investigate a special kind of contraction of symmetric spaces (respectively, of Lie triple systems), called homotopy. In this first part of a series of two papers we construct such contractions for classical symmetric spaces in an elementary way by using associative algebras with several involutions. This construction shows a remarkable duality between the underlying "space" and the "deformation parameter".

Homotopes of Symmetric Spaces II. Structure Variety and Classification

We classify homotopes of classical symmetric spaces (studied in Part I of this work). Our classification uses the fibered structure of homotopes: they are fibered as symmetric spaces, with flat fibers, over a non-degenerate base; the base spaces correspond to inner ideals in Jordan pairs. Using that inner ideals in classical Jordan pairs are always complemented (in the sense defined by O. Loos and E. Neher), the classification of homotopes is obtained by combining the classification of inner ideals with the one of isotopes of a given inner ideal.

The deformation quantizations of the hyperbolic plane

We describe the space of (all) invariant deformation quantizations on the hyperbolic plane as solutions of the evolution of a second order hyperbolic differential operator. The construction is entirely explicit and relies on non-commutative harmonic analytical techniques on symplectic symmetric spaces. The present work presents a unified method producing every quantization of the hyperbolic plane, and provides, in the 2-dimensional context, an exact solution to Weinstein's WKB quantization program within geometric terms. The construction reveals the existence of a metric of Lorentz signature canonically attached (or `dual') to the geometry of the hyperbolic plane through the quantization process.

Non-formal deformation quantizations of solvable Ricci-type symplectic symmetric spaces

Ricci-type symplectic manifolds have been introduced and extensively studied by M. Cahen et al.. In this note, we describe their deformation quantizations in the split solvable symmetric case. In particular, we introduce the notion of non-formal tempered deformation quantization on such a space. We show that the set of tempered deformation quantizations is in one-to-one correspondence with the space of Schwartz operator multipliers on the real line. Moreover we prove that every invariant formal star product on a split Ricci-type solvable symmetric space is an asymptotic expansion of a tempered non-formal quantization. This note illustrates and partially reviews through an example a problematic studied by the author regarding non-formal quantization in presence of large groups of symmetries.

Deformation quantization for actions of the affine group

We define a universal deformation formula (UDF) for the actions of the affine group on Frechet algebras. More precisely, starting with any associative Frechet algebra which the affine group acts on in a strongly continuous and isometrical manner, the UDF produces a family of topological associative algebra structures on the space of smooth vectors of the action deforming the initial product. The deformation field obtained is based over an infinite dimensional parameter space naturally associated with the space of pseudo-differential operators on the real line. This note also presents some geometrical aspects of the UDF and in particular its relation with hyperbolic geometry.

Rankin-Cohen brackets and formal quantization

In this paper, we use the theory of deformation quantization to understand Connes' and Moscovici's results \cite{cm:deformation}. We use Fedosov's method of deformation quantization of symplectic manifolds to reconstruct Zagier's deformation \cite{z:deformation} of modular forms, and relate this deformation to the Weyl-Moyal product. We also show that the projective structure introduced by Connes and Moscovici is equivalent to the existence of certain geometric data in the case of foliation groupoids. Using the methods developed by the second author \cite{t1:def-gpd}, we reconstruct a universal deformation formula of the Hopf algebra $\calh_1$ associated to codimension one foliations. In the end, we prove that the first Rankin-Cohen bracket $RC_1$ defines a noncommutative Poisson structure for an arbitrary $\calh_1$ action.

Quantized anti de Sitter spaces and non-formal deformation quantizations of symplectic symmetric spaces

We realize quantized anti de Sitter space black holes, building Connes spectral triples, similar to those used for quantized spheres but based on Universal Deformation Quantization Formulas (UDF) obtained from an oscillatory integral kernel on an appropriate symplectic symmetric space. More precisely we first obtain a UDF for Lie subgroups acting on a symplectic symmetric space M in a locally simply transitive manner. Then, observing that a curvature contraction canonically relates anti de Sitter geometry to the geometry of symplectic symmetric spaces, we use that UDF to define what we call Dirac-isospectral noncommutative deformations of the spectral triples of locally anti de Sitter black holes. The study is motivated by physical and cosmological considerations.

Symplectic Symmetric Spaces

This is the pdf -version of the author's Ph.D. thesis (1995, ULB, Belgium). The notion of symeplectic symmertic space is introduced and studied via Lie theoretical and symplectic geoemetrical methods. The first chapter concerns basic poperties, however, an explicit formula for the Loos connection in the symplectic framework is given. In the second chapter, one proves a decomposition result analogous to de Rham - Wu's decomposition theorem for pseudo-Riemaniann symmertic spaces; this result is established for the general category of Lie triple systems as well. The chapter three deals with the reductive case; a structure theorem analoguous to Borel- de Sibenthal's theorem for Riemanniann spaces is established at the root system level. The three last chapters deal with various classes of symplectic symmetric spaces; results such as the uniqueness of a compact factor as well as a complete classification in dimension four are presented.

Open strings in Lie groups and associative products

Firstly, we generalize a semi-classical limit of open strings on D-branes in group manifolds. The limit gives rise to rigid open strings, whose dynamics can efficiently be described in terms of a matrix algebra. Alternatively, the dynamics is coded in group theory coefficients whose properties are translated in a diagrammatical language. In the case of compact groups, it is a simplified version of rational boundary conformal field theories, while for non-compact groups, the construction gives rise to new associative products. Secondly, we argue that the intuitive formalism that we provide for the semi-classical limit, extends to the case of quantum groups. The associative product we construct in this way is directly related to the boundary vertex operator algebra of open strings on symmetry preserving branes in WZW models, and generalizations thereof, e.g. to non-compact groups. We treat the groups SU(2) and SL(2,R) explicitly. We also discuss the precise relation of the semi-classical open string dynamics to Berezin quantization and to star product theory.

Symplectic connections

This article is an overview of the results obtained in recent years on symplectic connections. We present what is known about preferred connections (critical points of a variational principle). The class of Ricci-type connections (for which the curvature is entirely determined by the Ricci tensor) is described in detail, as well as its far reaching generalization to special connections. A twistorial construction shows a relation between Ricci-type connections and complex geometry. We give a construction of Ricci-flat symplectic connections. We end up by presenting, through an explicit example, an approach to noncommutative symplectic symmetric spaces.

Noncommutative Locally Anti-de Sitter Black Holes

We give a review of our joint work on strict deformation of BHTZ 2+1 black holes \cite{BRS02,BDHRS03}. However some results presented here are not published elsewhere, and an effort is made for enlightening the instrinsical aspect of the constructions. This shows in particular that the three dimensional case treated here could be generalized to an anti-de Sitter space of arbitrary dimension provided one disposes of a universal deformation formula for the actions of a parabolic subgroup of its isometry group.

Star products on extended massive non-rotating BTZ black holes

$AdS_3$ space-time admits a foliation by two-dimensional twisted conjugacy classes, stable under the identification subgroup yielding the non-rotating massive BTZ black hole. Each leaf constitutes a classical solution of the space-time Dirac-Born-Infeld action, describing an open D-string in $AdS_3$ or a D-string winding around the black hole. We first describe two nonequivalent maximal extensions of the non-rotating massive BTZ space-time and observe that in one of them, each D-string worldsheet admits an action of a two-parameter subgroup ($\ca \cn$) of $\SL$. We then construct non-formal, $\ca \cn$-invariant, star products that deform the classical algebra of functions on the D-string worldsheets and on their embedding space-times. We end by giving the first elements towards the definition of a Connes spectral triple on non-commutative $AdS$ space-times.

Universal Deformation Formulae for Three-Dimensional Solvable Lie groups

We apply methods from strict quantization of solvable symmetric spaces to obtain universal deformation formulae for actions of every three-dimensional solvable Lie group. We also study compatible co-products by generalizing the notion of smash product in the context of Hopf algebras. We investigate in particular the dressing action of the `book' group on SU(2).

Traces for star products on the dual of a Lie algebra

In this paper, we describe all traces for the BCH star-product on the dual of a Lie algebra. First we show by an elementary argument that the BCH as well as the Kontsevich star-product are strongly closed if and only if the Lie algebra is unimodular. In a next step we show that the traces of the BCH star-product are given by the $\ad$-invariant functionals. Particular examples are the integration over coadjoint orbits. We show that for a compact Lie group and a regular orbit one can even achieve that this integration becomes a positive trace functional. In this case we explicitly describe the corresponding GNS representation. Finally we discuss how invariant deformations on a group can be used to induce deformations of spaces where the group acts on.
