The spectrum and mass anomalous dimension of SU(2) adjoint QCD with two Dirac flavours

In this work we present the results of our investigation of \su{2} gauge theory with two Dirac fermions in the adjoint representation (aQCD2), which belongs to the class of strongly interacting gauge theories that are of basic interest for extensions of the Standard Model. We have done numerical lattice simulations of this theory at two different values of the gauge coupling and several fermion masses. Our results include the particle spectrum and the mass anomalous dimension. The spectrum contains new exotic fermion-gluon states and flavour-singlet mesons. The mass anomalous dimension is determined from the scaling of the masses and the mode number. The remnant dependence of the universal mass ratios and mass anomalous dimension on the gauge coupling indicates the relevance of scaling corrections, such that earlier estimations for the universal fixed point value of the mass anomalous dimension are incomplete without their inclusion.

Dense 2-color QCD towards continuum and chiral limits

We study two-color QCD with two flavors of Wilson fermion as a function of quark chemical potential mu and temperature T, for two different lattice spacings and two different quark masses. We find that the quarkyonic region, where the behaviour of the quark number density and the diquark condensate are described by a Fermi sphere of almost free quarks distorted by a BCS gap, extends to larger chemical potentials with decreasing lattice spacing or quark mass. In both cases, the quark number density also approaches its non-interacting value. The pressure at low temperature is found to approach the Stefan-Boltzmann limit from below.

Indications for infrared conformal behaviour of SU(2) gauge theory with $N_f = 3/2$ flavours of adjoint fermions

{We present the results of a numerical investigation of SU(2) gauge theory with $N_f=3/2$ flavours of fermions, corresponding to 3 Majorana fermions, which transform in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. At two values of the gauge coupling, the masses of bound states are considered as a function of the PCAC quark mass. The scaling of bound states masses indicates an infrared conformal behaviour of the theory. We obtain estimates for the fixed-point value of the mass anomalous dimension $γ^*$ from the scaling of masses and from the scaling of the mode number of the Wilson-Dirac operator.

The light bound states of $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric SU(3) Yang-Mills theory on the lattice

In this article we summarise our results from numerical simulations of $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with gauge group SU(3). We use the formulation of Curci and Veneziano with clover-improved Wilson fermions. The masses of various bound states have been obtained at different values of the gluino mass and gauge coupling. Extrapolations to the limit of vanishing gluino mass indicate that the bound states form mass-degenerate supermultiplets.

Low energy properties of SU(2) gauge theory with N_f = 3/2 flavours of adjoint fermions

In this work we present the results of a numerical investigation of SU(2) gauge theory with N_f = 3/2 flavours of fermions, corresponding to 3 Majorana fermions, which transform in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. At two values of the gauge coupling, the masses of bound states are considered as a function of the fundamental fermion mass, represented by the PCAC quark mass. The scaling of bound states masses indicates an infrared conformal behaviour of the theory. We obtain estimates for the fixed-point value of the mass anomalous dimension $γ^{\ast}$ from the scaling of masses and from the scaling of the mode number of the Wilson-Dirac operator. The difference of the estimates at the two gauge couplings should be due to scaling violations and lattice spacing effects. The more reliable estimate at the smaller gauge coupling is $γ^{\ast} \approx 0.38(2)$.

Improved thermodynamics of SU(2) gauge theory

In this work we present the results of our investigation about the thermodynamics of SU(2) gauge theory. We employ a Symanzik improved action to reduce strongly the discretisations effects, and we use the scaling relations to take into account the finite volume effects close to the critical temperature. We determine the beta-function for this particular theory and we use it in the determination of different thermodynamic observables. Finally we compare our results with previous works where only the standard Wilson action was considered. We confirm the relevance of using the improved action to access easily the correct continuum thermodynamics of the theory.

Ward identities in $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric SU(3) Yang-Mills theory on the lattice

The introduction of a space-time lattice as a regulator of field theories breaks symmetries associated with continuous space-time, i.e.\ Poincar{é} invariance and supersymmetry. A non-zero gluino mass in the supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory causes an additional soft breaking of supersymmetry. We employ the lattice form of SUSY Ward identities, imposing that their continuum form would be recovered when removing the lattice regulator, to obtain the critical hopping parameter where broken symmetries can be recovered.

Supermultiplets in N=1 SUSY SU(2) Yang-Mills Theory

We study $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) on the lattice. The non-perturbative nature of supersymmetric field theories is still largely unknown. Similarly to QCD, SYM is confining and contains strongly bound states. Applying the variational method together with different smearing techniques we extract masses of the lightest bound states such as gluino-glue, glueball and mesonic states. As these states should form supermultiplets, this study allows to check whether SYM remains supersymmetric also on the quantum level.

Improved results for the mass spectrum of N=1 supersymmetric SU(3) Yang-Mills theory

This talk summarizes the results of the DESY-Münster collaboration for $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with the gauge group SU(3). It is an updated status report with respect to our preliminary data presented at the last conference. In order to control the lattice artefacts we have now considered a clover improved fermion action and different values of the gauge coupling.

Spectrum and mass anomalous dimension of SU(2) gauge theories with fermions in the adjoint representation: from $N_f=1/2$ to $N_f=2$

We summarize our results concerning the spectrum and mass anomalous dimension of SU(2) gauge theories with various numbers of fermions in the adjoint representation, where each Majorana fermion corresponds effectively to half a Dirac flavour $N_f$. The most relevant examples for extensions of the standard model are supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory ($N_f=1/2$) and Minimal Walking Technicolour ($N_f=2$). In addition to these theories we will also consider the cases of $N_f=1$ and $N_f=3/2$. The results comprise the particle spectrum of glueballs, triplet and singlet mesons, and possible fractionally charged spin half particles. In addition we will discuss our recent results for the mass anomalous dimension.

The light bound states of supersymmetric SU(2) Yang-Mills theory

Supersymmetry provides a well-established theoretical framework for extensions of the standard model of particle physics and the general understanding of quantum field theories. We summarise here our investigations of N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with SU(2) gauge symmetry using the non-perturbative first-principles method of numerical lattice simulations. The strong interactions of gluons and their superpartners, the gluinos, lead to confinement, and a spectrum of bound states including glueballs, mesons, and gluino-glueballs emerges at low energies. For unbroken supersymmetry these particles have to be arranged in supermultiplets of equal masses. In lattice simulations supersymmetry can only be recovered in the continuum limit since it is explicitly broken by the discretisation. We present the first continuum extrapolation of the mass spectrum of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. The results are consistent with the formation of supermultiplets and the absence of non-perturbative sources of supersymmetry breaking. Our investigations also indicate that numerical lattice simulations can be applied to non-trivial supersymmetric theories.

Lattice simulations of technicolour theories with adjoint fermions and supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

Theories with fermions in the adjoint representation have several interesting applications in extensions of the standard model. The conformal window for these theories is of particular interest for technicolour extensions. We present here our newest results for the spectrum of $N_f=2$ adjoint QCD and compare them with the predictions for a conformal behaviour. The comparison with supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, investigated with the same methods, will help to distinguish more clearly the conformal and the confining scenario. The spectrum includes additional fermionic states that are not present in QCD. We provide results for the mass of these states and discuss their phenomenological relevance. In addition we have done preliminary investigations of the singlet scalar meson state.

Supermultiplets of the N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in the continuum limit

The spectrum of N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, calculated on the lattice, is presented. The masses have been determined on three different lattice spacings and extrapolated towards vanishing gluino mass. We present the extrapolation to the continuum limit which is consistent with the formation of degenerate supermultiplets.

The low-lying spectrum of N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

The spectrum of the lightest bound states in N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with SU(2) gauge group, calculated on the lattice, is presented. The masses have first been extrapolated towards vanishing gluino mass and then to the continuum limit. The final picture is consistent with the formation of degenerate supermultiplets.

The Charmonium Potential at Non-Zero Temperature

The potential between charm and anti-charm quarks is calculated non-perturbatively using physical, rather than static quarks at temperatures on both sides of the deconfinement transition $T_{\rm C}$, using a lattice simulation with 2+1 dynamical quark flavours. We used the HAL QCD time-dependent method, originally developed for inter-nucleon potentials. Our lattices are anisotropic, with temporal lattice spacing less than the spatial one which enhances the information content of our correlators at each temperature. Local-extended charmonium correlators were calculated efficiently by contracting propagators in momentum rather than coordinate space. We find no significant variation in the central potential for temperatures in the confined phase. As the temperature increases into the deconfinement phase, the potential flattens, consistent with the expected weakening interaction. We fit the potential to both the (a) Cornell and (b) Debye-screened potential forms, with the latter better reproducing the data. The zero temperature string tension obtained from (a) agrees with results obtained elsewhere, and it decreases with temperature, but at a slower rate than from the static quark approximation. The Debye mass from (b) is close to zero for small temperatures, but starts to increase rapidly around $T_{\rm C}$. The spin-dependent potential is found to have a repulsive core and a distinct temperature dependence above $T_{\rm C}$ at distances $\sim 1$ fm.

Electrical conductivity and charge diffusion in thermal QCD from the lattice

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the charge diffusion coefficient, the electrical conductivity and various susceptibilities of conserved charges, for a range of temperatures below and above the deconfinement crossover. The calculations include the contributions from up, down and strange quarks. We find that the diffusion coefficient is of the order of 1/(2πT) and has a dip around the crossover temperature. Our results are obtained with lattice simulations containing 2+1 dynamical flavours on anisotropic lattices. The Maximum Entropy Method is used to construct spectral functions from correlators of the conserved vector current.

Two-color QCD at high density

QCD at high chemical potential has interesting properties such as deconfinement of quarks. Two-color QCD, which enables numerical simulations on the lattice, constitutes a laboratory to study QCD at high chemical potential. Among the interesting properties of two-color QCD at high density is the diquark condensation, for which we present recent results obtained on a finer lattice compared to previous studies. The quark propagator in two-color QCD at non-zero chemical potential is referred to as the Gor'kov propagator. We express the Gor'kov propagator in terms of form factors and present recent lattice simulation results.
