Deconstructing non-dissipative non-Dirac-hermitian relativistic quantum systems

A method to construct non-dissipative non-Dirac-hermitian relativistic quantum system that is isospectral with a Dirac-hermitian Hamiltonian is presented. The general technique involves a realization of the basic canonical (anti-)commutation relations involving the Dirac matrices and the bosonic degrees of freedom in terms of non-Dirac-hermitian operators, which are hermitian in a Hilbert space that is endowed with a pre-determined positive-definite metric. Several examples of exactly solvable non-dissipative non-Dirac-hermitian relativistic quantum systems are presented by establishing/employing a connection between Dirac equation and supersymmetry

Deconstructing non-Dirac-hermitian supersymmetric quantum systems

A method to construct non-Dirac-hermitian supersymmetric quantum system that is isospectral with a Dirac-hermitian Hamiltonian is presented. The general technique involves a realization of the basic canonical (anti-)commutation relations involving both bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom in terms of non-Dirac-hermitian operators which are hermitian in a Hilbert space that is endowed with a pre-determined positive-definite metric. A pseudo-hermitian realization of the Clifford algebra for a pre-determined positive-definite metric is used to construct supersymmetric systems with one or many degrees of freedom. It is shown that exactly solvable non-Dirac-hermitian supersymmetric quantum systems can be constructed corresponding to each exactly solvable Dirac-hermitian system. Examples of non-Dirac-hermitian (i) non-relativistic Pauli Hamiltonian, (ii) super-conformal quantum system and (iii) supersymmetric Calogero-type models admitting entirely real spectra are presented.

Constructing Exactly Solvable Pseudo-hermitian Many-particle Quantum Systems by Isospectral Deformation

A class of non-Dirac-hermitian many-particle quantum systems admitting entirely real spectra and unitary time-evolution is presented. These quantum models are isospectral with Dirac-hermitian systems and are exactly solvable. The general method involves a realization of the basic canonical commutation relations defining the quantum system in terms of operators those are hermitian with respect to a pre-determined positive definite metric in the Hilbert space. Appropriate combinations of these operators result in a large number of pseudo-hermitian quantum systems admitting entirely real spectra and unitary time evolution. Examples of a pseudo-hermitian rational Calogero model and XXZ spin-chain are considered.

On the construction of pseudo-hermitian quantum system with a pre-determined metric in the Hilbert space

A class of pseudo-hermitian quantum system with an explicit form of the positive-definite metric in the Hilbert space is presented. The examples considered include simple harmonic oscillators with complex angular frequencies, Stark(Zeeman) effect with complex electric(magnetic) field, non-hermitian general quadratic form of N boson(fermion) operators, symmetric and asymmetric XXZ spin-chain in complex magnetic field, non-hermitian Haldane-Shastry spin-chain and Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model.

Exactly Solvable Quasi-hermitian Transverse Ising Model

A non-hermitian deformation of the one-dimensional transverse Ising model is shown to have the property of quasi-hermiticity. The transverse Ising chain is obtained from the starting non-hermitian Hamiltonian through a similarity transformation. Consequently, both the models have identical eigen-spectra, although the eigen-functions are different. The metric in the Hilbert space, which makes the non-hermitian model unitary and ensures the completeness of states, has been constructed explicitly. Although the longitudinal correlation functions are identical for both the non-hermitian and the hermitian Ising models, the difference shows up in the transverse correlation functions, which have been calculated explicitly and are not always real. A proper set of hermitian spin operators in the Hilbert space of the non-hermitian Hamiltonian has been identified, in terms of which all the correlation functions of the non-hermitian Hamiltonian become real and identical to that of the standard transverse Ising model. Comments on the quantum phase transitions in the non-hermitian model have been made.

Level statistics of a pseudo-Hermitian Dicke model

A non-Hermitian operator that is related to its adjoint through a similarity transformation is defined as a pseudo-Hermitian operator. We study the level-statistics of a pseudo-Hermitian Dicke Hamiltonian that undergoes Quantum Phase Transition (QPT). We find that the level-spacing distribution of this Hamiltonian near the integrable limit is close to Poisson distribution, while it is Wigner distribution for the ranges of the parameters for which the Hamiltonian is non-integrable. We show that the assertion in the context of the standard Dicke model that QPT is a precursor to a change in the level statistics is not valid in general.

Quantum Phase Transition in a Pseudo-hermitian Dicke model

We show that a Dicke-type pseudo-hermitian Hamiltonian undergoes quantum phase transition by mapping it to the "Dressed Dicke Model" through a similarity transformation. We find the positive-definite metric in the Hilbert space of the pseudo-hermitian Hamiltonian so that it is unitary and allows a consistent quantum description. Further, we obtain the limit in which the pseudo-hermitian Hamiltonian is exactly solvable.

Exactly solvable non-Hermitian Jaynes-Cummings-type Hamiltonian admitting entirely real spectra from supersymmetry

It is shown that for a given Hermitian Hamiltonian possessing supersymmetry, there is alwayas a non-hermitian Jaynes-Cummings-type Hamiltonian(JCTH) admitting entirely real spectra. The parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian and the corresponding non-hermitian JCTH are simultaneously diagonalizable. The exact eigenstates of these non-hermitian Hamiltonians are constructed algebraically for certain shape-invariant potentials, including a non-hermitian version of the standard Jaynes-Cummings model for which the parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian is the superoscillator. The positive-definite metric operator in the Hilbert space is constructed explicitly along with the introduction of a new inner product structure, so that the eigenstates form a complete set of orthonormal vectors and the time-evolution is unitary.

Supersymmetric quantum mechanics on noncommutative space

We construct supersymmetric quantum mechanics in terms of two real supercharges on noncommutative space in arbitrary dimensions. We obtain the exact eigenspectra of the two and three dimensional noncommutative superoscillators. We further show that a reduction in the phase-space occurs for a critical surface in the space of parameters. At this critical surface, the energy-spectrum of the bosonic sector is infinitely degenerate, while the degeneracy in the spectrum of the fermionic sector gets enhanced by a factor of two for each pair of reduced canonical coordinates. For the two dimensional noncommutative `inverted superoscillator', we find exact eigenspectra with a well-defined groundstate for certain regions in the parameter space, which have no smooth limit to the ordinary commutative space.

Comment on ``Dynamical role of anyonic excitation statistics in rapidly rotating Bose gases"

We comment on the work of Fischer, Phys. Rev. Lett. 93, 160403 (2004). Contrary to the claim in the letter, we argue that the anyonic excitation statistics does not play any dynamical role in stabilizing attractive bose gases under rapid rotation in a fractional quantum Hall state. We also point out that the assertion of obtaining exact solutions of the self-dual equation that saturates the Bogomol'nyi bound is invalid for non-zero external field.

On the Real Spectra of Calogero Model with Complex Coupling

We study the eigenvalue problem of the rational Calogero model with the coupling of the inverse-square interaction as a complex number. We show that although this model is manifestly non-invariant under the combined parity and time-reversal symmetry ${\cal{PT}}$, the eigenstates corresponding to the zero value of the generalized angular momentum have real energies.

Super-Calogero model with OSp(2|2) supersymmetry : is the construction unique?

We show that the construction of super-Calogero model with OSp(2|2) supersymmetry is not unique. In particular, we find a new co-ordinate representation of the generators of the OSp(2|2) superalgebra that appears as the dynamical supersymmetry of the rational super-Calogero model. Both the quadratic and the cubic Casimir operators of the OSp(2|2) are necessarily zero in this new representation, while they are, in general, nonzero for the super-Calogero model that is currently studied in the literature. The Scasimir operator that exists in the new co-ordinate representation is not present in the case of the existing super-Calogero model. We also discuss the case of N free superoscillators and superconformal quantum mechanics for which the same conclusions are valid.

Near-Horizon States of Black Holes and Calogero Models

We find self-adjoint extensions of the rational Calogero model in presence of the harmonic interaction. The corresponding eigenfunctions may describe the near-horizon quantum states of certain types of black holes.

Inequivalent Quantizations of the Rational Calogero Model

We show that the rational Calogero model with suitable boundary condition admits quantum states with non-equispaced energy levels. Such a spectrum generically consists of infinitely many positive energy states and a single negative energy state. The new states appear for arbitrary number of particles and for specific ranges of the coupling constant. These states owe their existence to the self-adjoint extensions of the corresponding Hamiltonian, which are labelled by a real parameter z. Each value of z corresponds to a particular spectrum, leading to inequivalent quantizations of the model.

Novel Quantum States of the Rational Calogero Models Without the Confining Interaction

We show that the N-particle A_{N-1} and B_N rational Calogero models without the harmonic interaction admit a new class of bound and scattering states. These states owe their existence to the self-adjoint extensions of the corresponding Hamiltonians, labelled by a real parameter z. It is shown that the new states appear for all values of N and for specific ranges of the coupling constants. Moreover, they are shown to exist even in the excited sectors of the Calogero models. The self-adjoint extension generically breaks the classical scaling symmetry, leading to quantum mechanical scaling anomaly. The scaling symmetry can however be restored for certain values of the parameter z. We also generalize these results for many particle systems with classically scale invariant long range interactions in arbitrary dimensions.

Explosion-implosion duality in the Bose-Einstein condensation

We show an explosion-implosion duality in the one and two dimensional Bose-Einstein condensation with or without a particular time-dependent harmonic trap. The result is independent of the strength and the attractive or the repulsive nature of the self-interaction of the condensate. This implies that the implosion in a particular atomic species has a dual description in terms of the explosion in the same or another atomic species and the vice versa. The result is applicable without any modifications to nonrelativistic theories that are invariant under the SL(2,R) reparameterization of the time-coordinate.

Exact results on the dynamics of multi-component Bose-Einstein condensate

We study the time-evolution of the two dimensional multi-component Bose-Einstein condensate in an external harmonic trap with arbitrary time-dependent frequency. We show analytically that the time-evolution of the total mean-square radius of the wave-packet is determined in terms of the same solvable equation as in the case of a single-component condensate. The dynamics of the total mean-square radius is also the same for the rotating as well as the non-rotating multi-component condensate. We determine the criteria for the collapse of the condensate at a finite time. Generalizing our previous work on a single-component condensate, we show explosion-implosion duality in the multi-component condensate.

Conformal symmetry and the nonlinear Schrodinger equation

We show that the width of the wave-packet of a class of generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equations (NLSE) trapped in an arbitrary time-dependent harmonic well in any dimensions is universally determined by the same Hill's equation. This class of generalized NLSE is characterized by a dynamical O(2,1) symmetry in absence of the trap. As an application, we study the dynamical instabilities of the rotating as well as non-rotating Bose-Einstein condensates in one and two dimensions. We also show exact extended parametric resonance in a non-relativistic Chern-Simons theory producing a gauged NLSE.
