Solvable Quadratic Lie algebras up to dimension 7

The double extension method allows the construction of quadratic Lie algebras from smaller ones. Using this approach, in this work we describe all solvable indecomposable quadratic Lie algebras of dimension at most $7$ over arbitrary fields of characteristic not $2$. In particular, we get complete classifications up to isometric isomorphism over algebraically and real closed fields.

Computing Derivations on Nilpotent Quadratic Lie Algebras

Every non-solvable and non-semisimple quadratic Lie algebra can be obtained as a double extension of a solvable quadratic Lie algebra. Thanks to a partial classification of nilpotent Lie algebras and this result, we can design different techniques to obtain any quadratic Lie algebra whose (solvable) radical ideal is nilpotent. To achieve this, we propose two alternative methods, both involving the use of quotients. In addition to their mathematical description, both approaches introduced in this paper have been computationally implemented and are publicly available to use for generating these algebras.

Skew-adjoint maps and quadratic Lie algebras

The procedure of double extension of vector spaces endowed with non-degenerate bilinear forms allows us to introduce the class of generalized $\mbK$-oscillator algebras over any arbitrary field $\mbK$. Starting from basic structural properties of such algebras and the canonical forms of skew-adjoint endomorphisms, we will proceed to classify the subclass of quadratic nilpotent algebras and characterize those algebras in the class with quadratic dimension 2. This will enable us to recover the well-known classification of real oscillator algebras, also known as Lorentzian algebras, given by Alberto Medina in 1985.

Metrics related to Oscillator algebras

A Lie algebra is said to be metric if it admits a symmetric invariant and nondegenerate bilinear form. The harmonic oscillator algebra, which arises in the quantum mechanical description of a harmonic oscillator, is the smallest solvable nonabelian metric example. This algebra is the first step of a countable series of solvable Lie algebras which support invariant Lorentzian forms. Generalizing this situation, in this paper we arrive to the oscillator Lie K-algebras as double extensions of metric spaces. The aim of this paper is to present some structural features, invariant metrics and derivations of this class of algebras and to explore their possibilities of being extended to mixed metric Lie algebras.

Lie structures and chain ideal lattices

The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, to emphasise that the class of Lie algebras with chain lattices of ideals are elementary blocks in the embedding or decomposition of Lie algebras with finite lattice of ideals. Secondly, to show that the number of Lie algebras of this class is large and they support other types of Lie structures. Beginning with general examples and algebraic decompositions, we focus on computational algorithms to build Lie algebras in which the lattice of ideals is a chain. The chain condition forces gradings on the nilradicals of this class of algebras. Our algorithms yield to several positive naturally graded parametric families of Lie algebras. Further generalizations and other kind of structures will also be discussed.

Examples and patterns on quadratic Lie algebras

A Lie algebra is said to be quadratic if it admits a symmetric invariant and non-degenerated bilinear form. Semisimple algebras with the Killing form are examples of these algebras, while orthogonal subspaces provide abelian quadatric algebras. The class of quadratic algebras is outsize, but at first sight it is not clear weather an algebra is quadratic. Some necessary structural conditions appear due to the existence of an invariant form forces elemental patterns. Along the paper we overview classical features and constructions on this topic and focus on the existence and constructions of local quadratic.

Equivalent constructions of nilpotent quadratic Lie algebras

The double extension and the T*-extension are classical methods for constructing finite dimensional quadratic Lie algebras. The first one gives an inductive classification in characteristic zero, while the latest produces quadratic non-associative algebras (not only Lie) out of arbitrary ones in characteristic different from 2. The classification of quadratic nilpotent Lie algebras can also be reduced to the study of free nilpotent Lie algebras and their invariant forms. In this work we will establish an equivalent characterization among these three construction methods. This equivalence reduces the classification of quadratic 2-step nilpotent to that of trivectors in a natural way. In addition, theoretical results will provide simple rules for switching among them.

Derivations and automorphisms of free nilpotent Lie algebras and their quotiens

Let $\n_{d,t}$ be the free nilpotent Lie algebra of type $d$ and nilindex $t$. Starting out with the derivation algebra and the automorphism group of $\n_{d,t}$, we get a natural description of derivations and automorphisms of any generic nilpotent Lie algebra of the same type and nilindex. Moreover, along the paper we discuss several examples to illustrate the obtained results.

Lie Algebras with a finite number of ideals

In this paper we focus on the structure of the variety of Lie algebras with a finite number of ideals and their graph representations using Hasse diagrams. The large number of necessary conditions on the algebraic structure of this type of algebras leads to the explicit description of those algebras in the variety with trivial Frattini subalgebra. To illustrate our results, we have included and discussed lots of examples throughout the paper.

Quadratic 2-step Lie algebras: Computational algorithms and classification

Taking into account the theoretical results and guidelines given inthis work, we introduce a computational method to construct any 2 step nilpotent quadratic algebra of d generators. Along the work we show that the key of the classification of this class of metric algebras relies on certain families of skewsymmetric matrices. Computational examples for d<=8 will be given.

Rota-Baxter Operators on Quadratic Algebras

We prove that all Rota-Baxter operators on a quadratic division algebra are trivial. For nonzero weight, we state that all Rota-Baxter operators on the simple odd-dimensional Jordan algebra of bilinear form are projections on a subalgebra along another one. For weight zero, we find a connection between the Rota-Baxter operators and the solutions to the alternative Yang-Baxter equation on the Cayley-Dickson algebra. We also investigate the Rota-Baxter operators on the matrix algebras of order two, the Grassmann algebra of plane, and the Kaplansky superalgebra.

Free nilpotent and nilpotent quadratic Lie algebras

In this paper we introduce an equivalence between the category of the t-nilpotent quadratic Lie algebras with d generators and the category of some symmetric invariant bilinear forms on the t-nilpotent free Lie algebra with d generators. Taking into account this equivalence, t-nilpotent quadratic Lie algebras with d generators are classified (up to isometric isomorphism, and over any field of characteristic zero), in the following cases: d=2 and t<6, d=3 and t<4.

Symmetric matrices, orthogonal Lie algebras, and Lie-Yamaguti algebras

On the set H_n(K) of symmetric n by n matrices over the field K we can define various binary and ternary products which endow it with the structure of a Jordan algebra or a Lie or Jordan triple system. All these non-associative structures have the orthogonal Lie algebra so(n,K) as derivation algebra. This gives an embedding of so(n,K) into so(N,K) for N = n(n+1)/2 - 1. We obtain a sequence of reductive pairs (so(N,K), so(n,K)) that provides a family of irreducible Lie-Yamaguti algebras. In this paper we explain in detail the construction of these Lie-Yamaguti algebras. In the cases n < 5, we use computer algebra to determine the polynomial identities of degree < 7; we also study the identities relating the bilinear Lie-Yamaguti product with the trilinear product obtained from the Jordan triple product.

A note on extensions of nilpotent algebras of Type 2

We propose the study and description of the structure of complex Lie algebras with nilradical a nilpotent Lie algebra of type 2 by using sl2(C)-representation theory. Our results will be applied to review the classification given in [1] (J. Geometry and Physics, 2011) of the Lie algebras with nilradical the quasiclassical algebra L5;3. A non-Lie algebra has been erroneously included in this classification. The 5-dimensional Lie algebra L5;3 is a free nilpotent algebra of type 2 and it is one of two free nilpotent algebras admitting an invariant metric. According to [, Ok98] quasiclassical algebras let construct consistent Yang-Mills gauge theories.

On Levi extensions of nilpotent Lie algebras

Levi's theorem decomposes any arbitrary Lie algebra over a field of characteristic zero, as a direct sum of a semisimple Lie algebra (named Levi factor) and its solvable radical. Given a solvable Lie algebra $R$, a semisimple Lie algebra $S$ is said to be a Levi extension of $R$ in case a Lie structure can be defined on the vector space $S\oplus R$. The assertion is equivalent to $ρ(S)\subseteq \mathrm{Der}(R)$, where $\mathrm{Der}(R)$ is the derivation algebra of $R$, for some representation $ρ$ of $S$ onto $R$. Our goal in this paper, is to present some general structure results on nilpotent Lie algebras admitting Levi extensions based on free nilpotent Lie algebras and modules of semisimple Lie algebras. In low nilpotent index a complete classification will be given. The results are based on linear algebra methods and leads to computational algorithms.

Irreducible Lie-Yamaguti algebras of Generic Type

Lie-Yamaguti algebras (or generalized Lie triple systems) are binary-ternary algebras intimately related to reductive homogeneous spaces. The Lie-Yamaguti algebras which are irreducible as modules over their inner derivation algebras are the algebraic counterpart of the isotropy irreducible homogeneous spaces. These systems splits into three disjoint types: adjoint type, non-simple type and generic type. The systems of the first two types were classified in a previous paper through a generalized Tits Construction of Lie algebras. In this paper, the Lie-Yamaguti algebras of generic type are classified by relating them to several other nonassociative algebraic systems: Lie and Jordan algebras and triple systems, Jordan pairs or Freudenthal triple systems.
