2-Segal sets from cuts of rooted trees

The theory of 2-Segal sets has connections to various important constructions such as the Waldhausen $S_\bullet$-construction in algebraic $K$-theory, Hall algebras, and (co)operads. In this paper, we construct 2-Segal sets from rooted trees and explore how these applications are illustrated by this example.

Equivariant cohomology for cyclic groups

In this paper, we compute the $RO(C_n)$-graded coefficient ring of equivariant cohomology for cyclic groups $C_n$, in the case of Burnside ring coefficients, and in the case of constant coefficients. We use the invertible Mackey functors under the box product to reduce the gradings in the computation from $RO(C_n)$ to those expressable as combinations of $\lambda^d$ for divisors $d$ of $n$, where $\lambda$ is the inclusion of $C_n$ in $S^1$ as the roots of unity. We make explicit computations for the geometric fixed points for Burnside ring coefficients, and in the positive cone for constant coefficients. The positive cone is also computed for the Burnside ring in the case of prime power order, and in the case of square free order. Finally, we also make computations at non-negative gradings for the constant coefficients.

Equivariant Cohomology of Projective Spaces

We compute the equivariant homology and cohomology of projective spaces with integer coefficients. More precisely, in the case of cyclic groups, we show that the cellular filtration of the projective space $P(k\rho )$, of lines inside copies of the regular representation, yields a splitting of $H\underline{\mathbb{Z}}\bigwedge P(k\rho )_+$ as a wedge of suspensions of $H\underline{\mathbb{Z}}$. This is carried out both in the complex case, and also in the quaternionic case, and further, for the $C_2$ action on $\mathbb{C} P^n$ by complex conjugation. We also observe that these decompositions imply a degeneration of the slice tower in these cases. Finally, we describe the cohomology of the projective spaces when $|G|=p^m$ of prime power order, with explicit formulas for $\underline{\mathbb{Z}_p}$-coefficients. Letting $k=\infty$, this also describes the equivariant homology and cohomology of the classifying spaces of $S^1$ and $S^3$.

Equivariant homology decompositions for cyclic group actions on definite 4-manifolds

In this paper, we study the equivariant homotopy type of a connected sum of linear actions on complex projective planes defined by Hambleton and Tanase. These actions are constructed for cyclic groups of odd order. We construct cellular filtrations on the connected sum using spheres inside unitary representations. A judicious choice of filtration implies a splitting on equivariant homology for general cyclic groups under a divisibility hypothesis, and in all cases for those of prime power order.

Twisted conjugacy classes in twisted Chevalley groups

Let G be a group and {\phi} be an automorphism of G. Two elements x, y of G are said to be {\phi}-twisted if y = gx{\phi}(g)^{-1} for some g in G. We say that a group G has the R_{\infty}-property if the number of {\phi}-twisted conjugacy classes is infinite for every automorphism {\phi} of G. In this paper, we prove that twisted Chevalley groups over the field k of characteristic zero have the R_{\infty}-property as well as S_{\infty}-property if k has finite transcendence degree over \mathbb{Q} or Aut(k) is periodic.

Free actions of finite groups on products of Dold manifolds

The Dold manifold $ P(m,n)$ is the quotient of $S^m \times \mathbb{C}P^n$ by the free involution that acts antipodally on $ S^m $ and by complex conjugation on $ \mathbb{C}P^n $. In this paper, we investigate free actions of finite groups on products of Dold manifolds. We show that if a finite group $ G $ acts freely and mod 2 cohomologically trivially on a finite-dimensional CW-complex homotopy equivalent to ${\displaystyle \prod_{i=1}^{k} P(2m_i,n_i)}$, then $G\cong (\mathbb{Z}_2)^l$ for some $l\leq k$. This is achieved by first proving a similar assertion for $ \displaystyle \prod_{i=1}^{k} S^{2m_i} \times \mathbb{C} P^{n_i} $. We also determine the possible mod 2 cohomology algebra of orbit spaces of arbitrary free involutions on Dold manifolds, and give an application to $ \mathbb{Z}_2 $-equivariant maps.

Free actions of some compact groups on Milnor manifolds

In this paper, we investigate free actions of some compact groups on cohomology real and complex Milnor manifolds. More precisely, we compute the mod 2 cohomology algebra of the orbit space of an arbitrary free $\mathbb{Z}_2$ and $\mathbb{S}^1$-action on a compact Hausdorff space with mod 2 cohomology algebra of a real or a complex Milnor manifold. As applications, we deduce some Borsuk-Ulam type results for equivariant maps between spheres and these spaces. For the complex case, we obtain a lower bound on the Schwarz genus, which further establishes the existence of coincidence points for maps to the Euclidean plane.

Automorphism groups of quandles arising from groups

Let $G$ be a group and $\varphi \in \Aut(G)$. Then the set $G$ equipped with the binary operation $a*b=\varphi(ab^{-1})b$ gives a quandle structure on $G$, denoted by $\Alex(G, \varphi)$ and called the generalised Alexander quandle. When $G$ is additive abelian and $\varphi = -\id_G$, then $\Alex(G, \varphi)$ is the well-known Takasaki quandle. In this paper, we determine the group of automorphisms and inner automorphisms of Takasaki quandles of abelian groups with no 2-torsion, and Alexander quandles of finite abelian groups with respect to fixed-point free automorphisms. As an application, we prove that if $G\cong (\mathbb{Z}/p \mathbb{Z})^n$ and $\varphi$ is multiplication by a non-trivial unit of $\mathbb{Z}/p \mathbb{Z}$, then $\Aut\big(\Alex(G, \varphi)\big)$ acts doubly transitively on $\Alex(G, \varphi)$. This generalises a recent result of \cite{Ferman} for quandles of prime order.
