Cumulants of mean transverse momentum and elliptic flow in the hydrodynamic model of heavy-ion collisions

Higher order cumulants between the mean transverse momentum and elliptic flow are calculated in a relativistic viscous hydrodynamic model of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The results of the hydrodynamic simulations are compared with calculations using event-by-event predictors of the final collective observables constructed from the initial state entropy distribution. The predictors describes quantitatively centrality dependence of the higher cumulants considered in the paper. We derive a quantitative relations between the cumulants of the mean transverse momentum and different moments of the harmonic flow. The hydrodynamic simulations satisfy those relation very well. Those relations could be used to test experimentally the collective origin of the observed correlations between the mean transverse momentum and harmonic flow.

Flow in collisions of light nuclei

In this talk we discuss several interesting aspects of collective flow in small systems in reference to planned future experiments. First, we bring in the novel possibility of exploring elliptic flow with heavy nuclei collisions on polarized deuteron targets, accessible in AFTER@LHC program after Long Shutdown 3. Then we pass to the Glauber model predictions for the presently considered ${}^{16}{\rm O}-{}^{16}{\rm O}$ program and RHIC and the LHC. Finally, we turn to our previous proposal concerning specific flow signatures of intrinsic correlations (such as the supposed $α$ clusterization) in the structure of light nuclei in collisions with heavy nuclei. In particular, ${}^{12}{\rm C}$--heavy nucleus ultrarelativistic reactions would provide insight into the ground-state ${}^{12}{\rm C}$ structure, complementary to the traditional nuclear structure features.

Large directed flow of open charm mesons probes the three dimensional distribution of matter in heavy ion collisions

Thermalized matter created in non-central relativistic heavy-ion collisions is expected to be tilted in the reaction plane with respect to the beam axis. The most notable consequence of this forward-backward symmetry breaking is the observation of rapidity-odd directed flow for charged particles. On the other hand, the production points for heavy quarks are forward-backward symmetric and shifted in the transverse plane with respect to the fireball. The drag of heavy quarks from the asymmetrically distributed thermalized matter generates a large directed flow for heavy flavor mesons. We predict a very large rapidity odd directed flow of $D$ mesons in non-central Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV, $several$ $times$ $larger$ than for charged particles. A possible experimental observation of a large directed flow for heavy flavor mesons would represent an almost direct probe of the 3-dimensional distribution of matter in heavy-ion collisions.
