Comment on "Dirac Quantization of Pais-Uhlenbeck Fourth Order Oscillator"

The structure of Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator in the equal-frequency limit has been recently studied by Mannheim and Davidson [Phys.Rev. A71 (2005), 042110]. It appears that taking this limit, as presented in the above paper, is quite subtle and the resulting structure of space of states - involved. In order to clarify the situation we present here the proper way of taking the equal-frequency limit, first under the assumption that the scalar product in the space of states is positive defined. We discuss also the case of indefinite metric space of states. We show that, irrespective of the way the limit is defined, the limiting theory can be hardly viewed as satisfactory.

On determination of statistical properties of spectra from parametric level dynamics

We analyze an approach aiming at determining statistical properties of spectra of time-periodic quantum chaotic system based on the parameter dynamics of their quasienergies. In particular we show that application of the methods of statistical physics, proposed previously in the literature, taking into account appropriate integrals of motion of the parametric dynamics is fully justified, even if the used integrals of motion do not determine the invariant manifold in a unique way. The indetermination of the manifold is removed by applying Dirac's theory of constrained Hamiltonian systems and imposing appropriate primary, first-class constraints and a gauge transformation generated by them in the standard way. The obtained results close the gap in the whole reasoning aiming at understanding statistical properties of spectra in terms of parametric dynamics.

On noncommutative isotropic harmonic oscillator

Energy spectrum of isotropic oscillator as a function of noncommutativity parameter theta is studied. It is shown that for a dense set of values of theta the spectrum is degenerated and the algebra responsible for degeneracy can be always chosen to be sU(2). The generators of the algebra are constructed explicitely.

Special relativity and reduced spin density matrices

We derive the general formula for Lorentz-transformed spin density matrix. It is shown that an appropriate Lorentz transformation can prduce totally unpolarized state out of pure one. Further properties, as depurification by an arbitrary Lorentz boost and its relation to the localization properties are also discussed.

On threshold amplitudes III: 2 into n processes

The 2 into n scattering with final particles at rest is discussed. The comparison with purely soft processes allows to identify symmetries responsible for vanishing of certain 2 into n amplitudes. Some examples are given.

"Isochronic" dynamical systems and nullification of amplitudes

We construct the set of theories which share the property that the tree-level amplitudes nullify even if both initial and final states contain the same type of particles. The origin of this phenomenon lies in the fact that the reduced classical dynamics describes isochronic systems.

On uncertainty relations in noncommutative quantum mechanics

We discuss the uncertainty relations in quantum mechanics on noncommutative plane. In particular, we show that, for a given state at most one out of three basic nontrivial uncertainty relations can be saturated. We consider also in some detail the case of angular momentum eigenstates.

spl(p,q) superalgebra and differential operators

Series of finite dimensional representations of the superalgebras spl(p,q) can be formulated in terms of linear differential operators acting on a suitable space of polynomials. We sketch the general ingredients necessary to construct these representations and present examples related to spl(2,1) and spl(2,2). By revisiting the products of projectivised representations of sl(2), we are able to construct new sets of differential operators preserving some space of polynomials in two or more variables. In particular, this allows to express the representation of spl(2,1) in terms of matrix differential operators in two variables. The corresponding operators provide the building blocks for the construction of quasi exactly solvable systems of two and four equations in two variables. We also present a quommutator deformation of spl(2,1) which, by construction, provides an appropriate basis for analyzing the quasi exactly solvable systems of finite difference equations.
