Modeling of non-rotating neutron stars in minimal dilatonic gravity

The model of minimal dilatonic gravity (MDG), called also the massive Branse-Dicke model with $ω=0$, is an alternative model of gravitation, which uses one Branse-Dicke gravitation-dilaton field $Φ$ and offers a simultaneous explanation of the effects of dark energy (DE) and dark matter (DM). Here we present an extensive research of non-rotating neutron star models in MDG with four different realistic equations of state (EOS), which are in agreement with the latest observational data. The equations describing static spherically symmetric stars in MDG are solved numerically. The effects corresponding to DE and DM are clearly seen and discussed.

The Heun functions and their applications in astrophysics

The Heun functions are often called the hypergemeotry successors of the 21st century, because of the wide number of their applications. In this proceeding we discuss their application to the problem of perturbations of rotating and non-rotating black holes and highlight some recent results on their late-time ring-down obtained using those functions.

Numerical stability of the electromagnetic quasinormal and quasibound modes of Kerr black holes

The proper understanding of the electromagnetic counterpart of gravity-waves emitters is of serious interest to the multimessenger astronomy. In this article, we study the numerical stability of the quasinormal modes (QNM) and quasibound modes (QBM) obtained as solutions of the Teukolsky Angular Equation and the Teukolsky Radial Equation with appropriate boundary conditions. We use the epsilon-method for the system featuring the confluent Heun functions to study the stability of the spectra with respect to changes in the radial variable. We find that the QNM and QBM are stable in certain regions of the complex plane, just as expected, while the third "spurious" spectrum was found to be numerically unstable and thus unphysical. This analysis shows the importance of understanding the numerical results in the framework of the theory of the confluent Heun functions, in order to be able to distinguish the physical spectra from the numerical artifacts.

New results for electromagnetic quasinormal and quasibound modes of Kerr black holes

The perturbations of the Kerr metric and the miracle of their exact solutions play a critical role in the comparison of predictions of general relativity with astrophysical observations of compact massive objects. The differential equations governing the late-time ring-down of the perturbations of the Kerr metric, the Teukolsky Angular Equation and the Teukolsky Radial Equation, can be solved analytically in terms of confluent Heun functions. In this article, we solve numerically the spectral system formed by those exact solutions and we obtain the electromagnetic (EM) spectra of the Kerr black hole. Because of the novel direct way of imposing the boundary conditions, one is able to discern three different types of spectra: the well-known quasinormal modes (QNM), the symmetric with respect to the real axis quasibound modes (QBM) and a spurious spectrum who is radially unstable. This approach allows clearer justification of the term "spurious" spectrum, which may be important considering the recent interest in the spectra of the electromagnetic counterparts of events producing gravitational waves.

Compact statis stars with polytropic equation of state in minimal dilatonic gravity

We present solution of the equations for relativistic static spherically symmetric stars (SSSS) in the model of minimal dilatonic gravity (MDG) using the polytropic equation of state. A polytropic equation of state, which has a good fitting with a more realistic one, is used. Results are obtained for all variables of a single neutron star in the model of MDG. The maximum mass about two solar masses is in accordance with the latest observations of pulsars. Several new effects are observed for the variables related with the dilaton $Φ$ and the cosmological constant $Λ$. The mass-radius relation is also obtained. Special attention is paid to the behavior of the quantities which describe the effects analogous to those of dark energy and dark matter in MDG. The results of the present paper confirm the conclusion that the dilaton $Φ$ is able to play simultaneously the role of dark energy and dark matter.

Dark Energy and Dark Matter in Stars Physic

We present the basic equations and relations for the relativistic static spherically symmetric stars (SSSS) in the model of minimal dilatonic gravity (MDG) which is {\em locally} equivalent to the f(R) theories of gravity and gives an alternative description of the effects of dark matter and dark energy. The results for the simplest form of the relativistic equation of state (EOS) of neutron matter are represented. Our approach overcomes the well-known difficulties of the physics of SSSS in the f(R) theories of gravity introducing two novel EOS for cosmological energy-pressure densities and dilaton energy-pressure densities, as well as proper boundary conditions.

New results for electromagnetic quasinormal modes of black holes

The differential equations governing the late-time ring-down of the perturbations of the Kerr metric, the Teukolsky Angular Equation and the Teukolsky Radial Equation, can be solved analytically in terms of confluent Heun functions. In this article, for the first time, we use those exact solutions to obtain the electromagnetic (EM) quasinormal spectra of the Kerr black hole . This is done by imposing the appropriate boundary conditions on the solutions and solving numerically the so-obtained two-dimensional transcendental system. The EM QNM spectra are compared with already published results, evaluated through the continued fraction method. The comparison shows that the modes with lower $n$ coincide for both methods, while those with higher $n$ may demonstrate significant deviations. To study those deviations, we employ the $ε$-method which introduces small variations in the argument of the complex radial variable. Using the $ε$-method one can move in the complex $r-$plane the branch cuts of the solutions of the radial equation and examine the dependence of the spectrum on their position. For different values of $ε$, one can obtain both the frequencies evaluated through the well-established continued fraction method or somewhat different spectra calculated here for the first time. This result raises the question what spectrum should be compared with the observational data and why. This choice should come from better understanding of the physics of the problem and it may become particularly important considering the recent interest in the spectra of the electromagnetic counterparts of events producing gravitational waves.

Application of the confluent Heun functions for finding the quasinormal modes of nonrotating black holes

Although finding numerically the quasinormal modes of a nonrotating black hole is a well-studied question, the physics of the problem is often hidden behind complicated numerical procedures aimed at avoiding the direct solution of the spectral system in this case. In this article, we use the exact analytical solutions of the Regge-Wheeler equation and the Teukolsky radial equation, written in terms of confluent Heun functions. In both cases, we obtain the quasinormal modes numerically from spectral condition written in terms of the Heun functions. The frequencies are compared with ones already published by Andersson and other authors. A new method of studying the branch cuts in the solutions is presented -- the epsilon-method. In particular, we prove that the mode $n=8$ is not algebraically special and find its value with more than 6 firm figures of precision for the first time. The stability of that mode is explored using the $ε$ method, and the results show that this new method provides a natural way of studying the behavior of the modes around the branch cut points.

Riemannian $\mathbf{(1+d)}$-Dim Space-Time Manifolds with Nonstandard Topology which Admit Dimensional Reduction to Any Lower Dimension and Transformation of the Klein-Gordon Equation to the $\mathbf{1}$-Dim Schrödinger Like Equation

This rather technical paper presents some generalization of the results of recent publications \cite{Shirkov2010, DVPF2010, PFDV2010} where toy models of dimensional reduction of space-time were considered. Here we introduce and consider a specific type of multidimensional space-times with nontrivial topology and nontrivial Riemannian metric, which admit a reduction of the dimension $d$ of the space to any lower one $d_{low} = 1, 2,..., d-1$. The variable geometry is described by several variable radii of compactification of part of space dimensions. We succeed once more in transforming the shape of the variable geometry of the $d$-dimensional spaces under consideration to a specific potential interaction, described by the potential $V$ in the one-dimensional Schrödinger-like equation. This way one may hope to study the possible physical signals going from both higher and lower dimensions into our obviously four dimensional real world.

The Gravitational Field of Massive Non-Charged Point Source in General Relativity

Utilizing various gauges of the radial coordinate we give a description of static spherically symmetric space-times with point singularity at the center and vacuum outside the singularity. We show that in general relativity (GR) there exist a two-parameters family of such solutions to the Einstein equations which are physically distinguishable but only some of them describe the gravitational field of a single massive point particle with nonzero bare mass $M_0$. In particular, the widespread Hilbert's form of Schwarzschild solution, which depends only on the Keplerian mass $M<M_0$, does not solve the Einstein equations with a massive point particle's stress-energy tensor as a source. Novel normal coordinates for the field and a new physical class of gauges are proposed, in this way achieving a correct description of a point mass source in GR. We also introduce a gravitational mass defect of a point particle and determine the dependence of the solutions on this mass defect. The result can be described as a change of the Newton potential $ϕ_{{}_N}=-G_{{}_N}M/r$ to a modified one: $ϕ_{{}_G}=-G_{{}_N}M/ (r+G_{{}_N} M/c^2\ln{{M_0}\over M})$ and a corresponding modification of the four-interval. In addition we give invariant characteristics of the physically and geometrically different classes of spherically symmetric static space-times created by one point mass. These space-times are analytic manifolds with a definite singularity at the place of the matter particle.
