Quantum discord and entropic measures of two relativistic fermions

In the present work, we study the interplay between relativistic effects and quantumness in the system of two relativistic fermions. In particular, we explore entropic measures of quantum correlations and quantum discord before and after application of a boost and subsequent Wigner rotation. We also study the positive operator-valued measurements (POVM) invasiveness before and after the boosts. While the relativistic principle is universal and requires Lorentz invariance of quantum correlations in the entire system, we have found specific partitions where quantum correlations stored in particular subsystems are not invariant. We calculate quantum discords corresponding of the states before and after applying a boost, and observe that the state gains extra discord after the boost. When analyzing the invasiveness of the POVMs, we have found that the POVM applied to the initial entangled state reduces the discord to zero. However, discord of the boosted state survives after the same POVM. Thus we conclude that the quantum discord generated by Lorentz boost is robust concerning the protective POVM, while the measurement exerts an invasive effect on the discord of the initial state. Finally, we discuss potential implementation of the ideas of this work using top quarks as a benchmark scenario.

Spin-flavor oscillations of ultrahigh-energy cosmic neutrinos in interstellar space: The role of neutrino magnetic moments

A theoretical analysis of possible influence of neutrino magnetic moments on the propagation of ultrahigh-energy cosmic neutrinos in the interstellar space is carried out under the assumption of two-neutrino mixing. The exact solution of the effective equation for neutrino evolution in the presence of a magnetic field and matter is obtained, which accounts for four neutrino species corresponding to two different flavor states with positive and negative helicities. Using most stringent astrophysical bounds on the putative neutrino magnetic moment, probabilities of neutrino flavor and spin oscillations are calculated on the basis of the obtained exact solution. Specific patterns of spin-flavor oscillations are determined for neutrino-energy values characteristic of, respectively, the cosmogenic neutrinos, the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuz'min (GZK) cutoff, and well above the cutoff.

Photon and neutral pion production in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies in the ALICE experiment

We present the results for direct photon and neutral pion production obtained from proton-proton and lead-lead collisions in the ALICE experiment. Measurement of neutral pions in pp collisions allows to test the validity of QCD-inspired models. The study of neutral pion yields in Pb-Pb collisions permits to study the medium-induced suppression relative to the pp case. The yield of direct photons is compared to perturbative QCD calculations. In the case of central Pb-Pb collisions the observed excess of photons below 4 GeV/c is used to find the effective temperature of the matter.
