Instabilities, thermal fluctuations, defects and dislocations in the crystal-$R_I$-$R_{II}$ rotator phase transitions of n-alkanes

The theoretical study of instabilities, thermal fluctuations, and topological defects in the crystal-rotator-I-rotator-II ($X-R_{I}-R_{II}$) phase transitions of n-alkanes has been conducted. First, we examine the nature of the $R_{I}-R_{II}$ phase transition in nanoconfined alkanes. We propose that under confined conditions, the presence of quenched random orientational disorder makes the $R_{I}$ phase unstable. This disorder-mediated transition falls within the Imry-Ma universality class. Next, we discuss the role of thermal fluctuations in certain rotator phases, as well as the influence of dislocations on the $X-R_I$ phase transition. Our findings indicate that the Herringbone order in the $X$-phase and the Hexatic order in the $R_{II}$-phase exhibit quasi-long-range characteristics. Furthermore, we find that in two dimensions, the unbinding of dislocations does not result in a disordered liquid state.

Heat capacity and susceptibility of rare-earth magnetic superconductors

We calculate the specific heat and susceptibility of rare-earth magnetic superconductors in the context of the Ginzburg-Landau theory. The specific heat and susceptibility are calculated both at the coexistence phase of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity and normal phase. Theoretical results are compared with experimental results, which agree excellently well.

Improved analysis of rare earth magnetic superconductors

We present an improved analysis of the phase transitions in rare earth superconductor using Ginzburg-Landau theory. Our work is based on the systematic study of critical field and superconducting order parameter in the presence of localized magnet due to rare-earth atom. We present the different phases that can occur and analyze the conditions of phase transition from the normal phase to the coexistence phase of antiferromagnetism and super-conductivity. We calculate the critical field and Ginzburg-Landau parameters to show the coexisting property. We compare our theoretical results with existing experimental results.

Dynamics of cholesteric liquid crystals in the presence of random magnetic fields

Based on dynamic renormalization group techniques, this letter analyzes the effects of external stochastic perturbations on the dynamical properties of cholesteric liquid crystals, studied in presence of a random magnetic field. Our analysis quantifies the nature of the temperature dependence of the dynamics; the results also highlight a hitherto unexplored regime in cholesteric liquid crystal dynamics. We show that stochastic fluctuations drive the system to a second-ordered Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition point, eventually leading to a Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class. The results go beyond quasi-first order mean-field theories, and provides the first theoretical understanding of a KPZ phase in distorted nematic liquid crystal dynamics.

Influence of Pressure on Smectic A-Nematic Phase Transition

We propose a Landau-de Gennes phenomenological model to describe the pressure induced smectic A-nematic phase transition. The pressure induced smectic A phase transitions are discussed for varying coupling between orientational and translational order parameter. Increasing the pressure, the first order nematic-smectic A transition becomes second order at a tricritical point which agrees fairly with available experimental results.
