Energy momentum tensor of a non-minimally coupled scalar from the equivalence of the Einstein and Jordan frames

Unlike the minimally coupled gravity theory where matter is coupled with gravity in such a manner so that one can differentiate the matter and gravity sector uniquely, the non-minimally coupled theories (NMCT) are distinguished by the intermingling of two. As a consequence of this the calculation of the energy momentum tensor (EMT) in NMCT is beset with an arbitrariness. In this paper we provide an algorithm based on the well known equivalence between Jordan frame and Einstein frame formulations which enables us to construct the EMT for NMCT in a unique way.

Geometry of Nonrelativistic string

The nonrelativistic bosonic string theory in a curved manifold is formulated here using gauging of symmetry approach ( Galilean Gauge theory ) . The corresponding model in flat space has some global symmetries . By localizing these symmetries as per Galilean Gauge theory , the action for the nonrelativistic string interacting with gravity is obtained. A canonical analysis of the model has been performed which demonstrate that the transformations of the basic field variables under gauge transformations in phase space are equivalent to the diffeomorphism parameters by an exact mapping. Thus complete consistency of our results from both Lagrangian and Hamiltonian procedures are established.

A new scalar electrodynamics for fracton gauge theory

A new representation of the scalar electrodynamics is discovered which gives a more redundant description of electromagnetic theory and suitable to construct an appropriate matter action which contains two global symmetries . The symmetries of the model when localized by gauge principle , provides a co-variant fracton gauge theory.

Covariant fracton gauge theory

A paradigm shift of the fracton physics research is established by providing a covariant formulation of the action. For the first time, fracton gauge symmetries are connected with the global symmetries of the free dynamics. A Galileon doublet are assumed to construct the scalar charged matter field. The corresponding action is shown to be the repository of all the symmetries of the system. The symmetric tensor gauge field introduced during localization of the gauge symmetries is the empirical tensor gauge field known today. All the past paradoxes are shown to dispel by the use of Galileon scalar field doublet in place of the usual scalar field doublet as the basic building blocks of matter action.

Hamiltonian analysis of the Schroedinger field coupled with dynamic non-relativistic gravity

Using the recently mooted Galilean gauge theory we have constructed the model for the Schroedinger field interacting wuth gravity which is also dynamical. The dynamics of gravity is dictated by the Newtonian action in the Newton-Cartan spacetime. The theory is highly constrained . An elaborate analysis of the constraints of the theory have been performed. The symmetries are explicitly verified and the uniqueness of the model has been established. To the best of our knowledge both the model and its constraints structure are unique in the literature

A new approach for nonrelativistic bosonic string in flat space time

A new approach to the study of nonrelativistic bosonic string in flat space time is introduced, basing on a holistic hamiltonian analysis of the minimal action for the string. This leads to a structurally new form of the action which is, however, equivalent to the known results since, under appropriate limits, it interpolates between the minimal action (Nambu Goto type) where the string metric is taken to be that induced by the embedding and the Polyakov type of action where the world sheet metric components are independent fields. The equivalence among different actions is established by a detailed study of symmetries using constraint analysis. Various vexing issues in the existing literature are clarified. The interpolating action mooted here is shown to reveal the geometry of the string and may be useful in analyzing nonrelativistic string coupled with curved background.

Canonical Formulation for a Non-relativistic Spinning Particle Coupled to Gravity

We systematically derive an action for a nonrelativistic spinning partile in flat background and discuss its canonical formulation in both Lagrangian and Hamiltonian approaches. This action is taken as the starting point for deriving the corresponding action in a curved background. It is achieved by following our recently developed technique of localising the flat space galilean symmetry \cite{BMM1, BMM3, BMM2}. The coupling of the spinning particle to a Newton-Cartan background is obtained naturally. The equation of motion is found to differ from the geodesic equation, in agreement with earlier findings. Results for both the flat space limit and the spinless theory (in curved background) are reproduced. Specifically, the geodesic equation is also obtained in the latter case.

Canonical Formulation of a New Action for a Non-relativistic Particle Coupled to Gravity

A detailed canonical treatment of a new action for a nonrelativistic particle coupled to background gravity, recently given by us, is performed both in the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations. The equation of motion is shown to satisfy the geodesic equation in the Newton-Cartan background, thereby clearing certain confusions. The Hamiltonian analysis is done in the gauge independent as well as gauge fixed approaches, following Dirac's analysis of constraints. The physical (canonical) variables are identified and the path to canonical quantisation is outlined by explicitly deriving the Schroedinger equation.

A New Action for Nonrelativistic Particle in Curved Background

We obtain a new form for the action of a nonrelativistic particle coupled to Newtonian gravity. The result is different from that existing in the literature which, as shown here, is riddled with problems and inconsistencies. The present derivation is based on the formalism of galilean gauge theory, introduced by us as an alternative method of analysing nonrelativistic symmetries in gravitational background.

Galilean gauge theory from Poincare gauge theory

We provide an exact mapping between the Galilian gauge theory, recently advocated by us \cite{BMM1, BMM2, BM}, and the Poincare gauge theory. Applying this correspondence we provide a vielbein approach to the geometric formulation of Newton's gravity where no ansatze or additional conditions are required.

Constrained Hamiltonian analysis of a non relativistic Schrodinger field coupled with C-S gravity

We provide a constrained Hamiltonian analysis of a non relativistic Schrodinger field in 2+1 dimensions , coupled with Chern - Simons gravity. The coupling is achieved by the recently advanced Galilean gauge theory \cite{BMM1},\cite{ BMM2}, \cite{BM4}. The calculations are repeated with a truncated model to show that deviation from Galilean gauge theory makes the theory untenable. The issue of nonrelativistic spatial diffeomorphism is discussed in this context.

Late-time acceleration driven by shift-symmetric Galileon in the presence of Torsion

A shift-symmetric Galileon model in presence of spacetime torsion has been constructed for the first time. This has been realized by localizing (or, gauging) the Galileon symmetry in flat spacetime in an appropriate manner. We have applied the above model to study the evolution of the universe at a cosmological scale. Interestingly, for a wide class of torsional structures we have shown that the model leads to late time cosmic acceleration. Furthermore, as torsion vanishes, our model reproduces the standard results.

Milne boost from galilean gauge theory

Physical origin of Milne boost invariance of the Newton Cartan spacetime is traced to the effect of local Galilean boosts in its metric structure, using galilean gauge theory. Specifically, we do not require any gauge field to understand Milne boost invariance.

On the subtelties of nonrelativistic reduction and applications

Various subtleties and problems associated with nonrelativistic (NR) reduction of a scalar field theory to the Schroedinger theory are discussed. Contrary to the usual approaches that discuss the mapping among the equations of motion or the actions, we highlight the mapping among the space time generators. Using a null reduction we show the embedding of the conformal generators of the Schroedinger theory to that of a complex scalar theory in one higher dimension. As applications we reveal the conformal symmetry in hydrodynamics and the obtention of NR diffeomorphism symmetry from the relativistic one. A geometrical connection based on Horava-Lifshitz and Newton-Cartan spacetime is discussed.

A field theoretic approach to the energy momentum tensor for theories coupled with gravity

We provide a field-theoretic algorithm of obtaining energy momentum tensor (EMT) for gravitationally coupled theories. The method is based on an auxiliary field theory and equally applicable to both minimal and non-minimal coupling. The algorithm illuminates the connection between the EMT, obtained by functional variation of the metric, and local balance of energy and momentum. Our method is of cardinal value for the proper identification of the EMT in context of non-minimally coupled gravity theories.

Taming galileons in curved spacetime

Localising the galileon symmetry along with Poincare symmetry we have found a version of galileon model coupled with curved spacetime which retains the internal galileon symmetry in covariant form. Also, the model has second order equations of motion.

Cosmological implications of shift symmetric Galileon field

A ghost-free metric formulation of the recently proposed covariant Galileon model \cite{RPgal} which retains the internal shift symmetry has been constructed. This presents a new result because the covariant Galileon models introduced so far in the literature lacks the full Galileon symmetry. We demonstrate that the same general procedure is applicable to all the Galileon interaction terms and the resulting ghost-free Galileon action respecting internal shift symmetry cannot predict the late time acceleration of the universe. However, weakly breaking the shift symmetry in the covariant Galileon Lagrangian, allows us to include an appropriate potential term which can explain late time acceleration, in accordance with recent findings in the literature.

On the question of symmetries in non-relativistic diffeomorphism invariant theories

A novel algorithm is provided to couple a Galilean invariant model with curved spatial background by taking nonrelativistic limit of a unique minimally coupled relativistic theory, which ensures Galilean symmetry in the flat limit and canonical transformation of the original fields. That the twin requirements are fulfilled is ensured by a new field, the existence of which was demonstrated recently from Galilean gauge theory. The ambiguities and anomalies concerning the recovery of Galilean symmetry in the flat limit of spatial non relativistic diffeomorphic theories, reported in the literature, are focused and resolved from a new angle.
