Visualization and Travel Time Extraction System for the Statistics of TDCS Travel using MapReduce Framework

Recently, extracting some information as a knowledge from big data is very challenging activity. The size of data is very huge and it requires some special techniques and adequate processing hardware. It is also applied in vehicles transportation data at Taiwan National Freeway from the Traffic Data Collection System (TDCS). The results of this extraction will be very useful if it can be used by the community. So that the delivery of information extracted from large data that is easily understood becomes a necessary thing. Presentation of results using images / visuals will make it easier for people to interpret the information provided. In this project, an interactive visualization of the results of extracting statistical information is attempted to be provided. The results can be used by users to support the decision making of road users in determining the appropriate time when going through the road pieces around the Taichung City. This visualization of the statistics will help people who want to predict the travel time around Taichung City.

Modeling Traffic Congestion with Spatiotemporal Big Data for An Intelligent Freeway Monitoring System

Traffic congestion is a complex, nonlinear spatiotemporal modeling problem. By collecting and analyzing a vast quantity and different categories of information, traffic flow, and road congestion can be predicted and controlled on an intelligent transportation system. This report provides an analysis of traveling time across Taiwan from North to South, vice versa. We analyze traffic in a national freeway between Tainan and Kaohsiung section, which represents the common trip of the population in Southern Taiwan. The data is recorded using the Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) provided by Ministry of Transportation in Taiwan. We use MapReduce framework to process data into a smaller task which can be distributed on several computer clusters to speed up the process. The results show that the spatiotemporal model of traffic flow is strongly influenced by direction, working hour, and holidays with a recurring pattern for each week. The distinctive pattern inside the spatiotemporal dataset can be used on an AI-powered decision-making system for future development.

The Virtual Machinery Workshop: an Immersive 360 degree Web-Based Vocational Education Learning

In this article, we have proposed an educational learning material model using 360-degree environment on web-based platform by personalizing the learning environment as per user surf the web. Virtual Machinery Workshop allow an illusionary immersion into a virtual learning environment where the user can freely navigate through a 360-degree videos and pictures. The main objective of this study is to analyze the nature of the added information in virtual learning environment, cognitive difficulty of user to study at web-based learning and the potential immersive learning in education. Our proposed method presented machinery workshop situation by utilizing 360-degree pictures and videos technique. The results show that our learning environment enhancing users study information through this visualized system.
