An incompressible polymer fluid interacting with a Koiter shell

We study a mutually coupled mesoscopic-macroscopic-shell system of equations modeling a dilute incompressible polymer fluid which is evolving and interacting with a flexible shell of Koiter type. The polymer constitutes a solvent-solute mixture where the solvent is modelled on the macroscopic scale by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation and the solute is modelled on the mesoscopic scale by a Fokker-Planck equation (Kolmogorov forward equation) for the probability density function of the bead-spring polymer chain configuration. This mixture interacts with a nonlinear elastic shell which serves as a moving boundary of the physical spatial domain of the polymer fluid. We use the classical model by Koiter to describe the shell movement which yields a fully nonlinear fourth order hyperbolic equation. Our main result is the existence of a weak solution to the underlying system which exists until the Koiter energy degenerates or the flexible shell approaches a self-intersection.

The combined incompressible quasineutral limit of the stochastic Navier-Stokes-Poisson system

This paper deals with the combined incompressible quasineutral limit of the weak martingale solution of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson system perturbed by a stochastic forcing term in the whole space. In the framework of ill-prepared initial data, we show the convergence in law to a weak martingale solution of a stochastic incompressible Navier-Stokes system. The result holds true for any arbitrary nonlinear forcing term with suitable growth. The proof is based on the analysis of acoustic waves but since we are dealing with a stochastic partial differential equation, the existing deterministic tools for treating this second-order equation breakdown. Although this might seem as a minor modification, to handle the acoustic waves in the stochastic compressible Navier-Stokes system, we produce suitable dispersive estimate for first-order system of equations, which are an added value to the existing theory. As a by-product of this dispersive estimate analysis, we are also able to prove a convergence result in the case of the zero-electron-mass limit for a stochastic fluid dynamical plasma model.

Local well-posedness of the compressible FENE dumbbell model of Warner type

We consider a dilute suspension of dumbbells joined by a finitely extendible nonlinear elastic (FENE) connector evolving under the classical Warner potential $U(s)=-\frac{b}{2} \log(1-\frac{2s}{b})$, $s\in[0,\frac{b}{2})$. The solvent under consideration is modelled by the compressible Navier--Stokes system defined on the torus $\mathbb{T}^d$ with $d=2,3$ coupled with the Fokker--Planck equation (Kolmogorov forward equation) for the probability density function of the dumbbell configuration. We prove the existence of a unique local-in-time solution to the coupled system where this solution is smooth in the spacetime variables and interpreted weakly in the elongation variable. Our result holds true independently of whether or not the centre-of-mass diffusion term is incorporated in the Fokker--Planck equation.

Dissipative martingale solutions of the stochastically forced Navier--Stokes--Poisson system on domains without boundary

We construct solutions to the randomly-forced Navier--Stokes--Poisson system in periodic three-dimensional domains or in the whole three-dimensional Euclidean space. These solutions are weak in the sense of PDEs and also weak in the sense of probability. As such, they satisfy the system in the sense of distributions and the underlying probability space and the stochastic driving force are also unknowns of the problem. Additionally, these solutions dissipate energy, satisfies a relative energy inequality in the sense of [4] and satisfy a renormalized form of the continuity equation in the sense of [5].

Space-time approximation of parabolic systems with variable growth

We study a parabolic system with $p(t,x)$-structure under Dirichlet boundary conditions. In particular, we deduce the optimal convergence rate for the error of the gradient of a finite element based space-time approximation. The error is measured in the quasi norm and the result holds if the exponent $p(t,x)$ is $(α_t, α_x)$-Hölder continuous.

Stochastic compressible Euler equations and inviscid limits

We prove the existence of a unique local strong solution to the stochastic compressible Euler system with nonlinear multiplicative noise. This solution exists up to a positive stopping time and is strong in both the PDE and probabilistic sense. Based on this existence result, we study the inviscid limit of the stochastic compressible Navier--Stokes system. As the viscosity tends to zero, any sequence of finite energy weak martingale solutions converges to the compressible Euler system.

A multi-scale limit of a randomly forced rotating $3$-D compressible fluid

We study a singular limit of a scaled compressible Navier--Stokes--Coriolis system driven by both a deterministic and stochastic forcing terms in three dimensions. If the Mach number is comparable to the Froude number with both proportional to say $\varepsilon\ll 1$, whereas the Rossby number scales like $\varepsilon^m$ for $m>1$ large, then we show that any family of weak martingale solution to the $3$-D randomly forced rotating compressible equation (under the influence of a deterministic centrifugal force) converges in probability, as $\varepsilon\rightarrow0$, to the $2$-D incompressible Navier--Stokes system with a corresponding random forcing term.

Existence of martingale solutions and the incompressible limit for stochastic compressible flows on the whole space

We give an existence and asymptotic result for the so-called finite energy weak martingale solution of the compressible isentropic Navier--Stokes system driven by some random force in the whole spatial region. In particular, given a general nonlinear multiplicative noise, we establish the convergence to the incompressible system as the Mach number, representing the ratio between the average flow velocity and the speed of sound, approaches zero.
