Zero-damped modes of near-extremal Reissner--Nordström black holes from exact WKB

The late-time ringdown dynamics of near-extremal black holes (BHs) are expected to be dominated by zero-damped modes (ZDMs), whose decay rates are parametrically suppressed relative to those of ordinary quasinormal modes. In this paper, we demonstrate that exact WKB methods provide an exceptionally powerful framework for analyzing the ZDM spectrum of near-extremal Reissner--Nordström (RN) BHs. Focusing on massless, neutral scalar modes propagating on an RN background, we present the full Stokes geometry derived from the radial eigenvalue problem and establish the corresponding exact quantization condition (EQC). Our analytic computation of the Voros symbols entering the EQC achieves higher-order accuracy for the ZDM spectrum compared to previous studies and is systematically improvable. Ergo, this work serves as a proof of concept for investigations of ZDM spectra of other systems using exact WKB methods.

Oscillating Imprints of Dark Matter in Mesons Decays

We study scenarios in which ultralight dark matter (ULDM) causes oscillations of the Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements, considering two frameworks. The first, previously proposed in the literature, employs the Nelson--Barr mechanism to solve the strong CP problem and the CKM phase is identified with a pseudo-Nambu--Goldstone boson. The second, inspired by Froggatt--Nielsen flavor models, relies on quadratic couplings of the ULDM to the Standard Model while naturally suppressing linear couplings. On the experimental side, we outline a strategy to search for such oscillations at flavor factories using meson decays, focusing on the NA62 experiment as the most promising candidate for discovery thanks to its large kaon statistics. We show that the sensitivity of lifetime-based observables is parametrically degraded when the total particle flux is not known exactly, leading to a substantial loss of sensitivity compared to naive estimates. We therefore advocate alternative observables based on direct counting of events, which retain the expected $1/\sqrt{N}$ scaling and provide a robust probe of oscillating CKM elements. Our results highlight flavor experiments as a novel probe of ULDM through time-dependent signatures.

Interference Resurrection of the $τ$ Dipole through Quantum Tomography

Helicity selection rules can suppress the leading contributions from dimension-6 operators in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), reducing sensitivity to potential new physics. This paper explores how the interference contributions from the $τ$ lepton's anomalous dipole moment are restored in different observable, in particular comparing the sensitivity to SMEFT operators of quantum information observables and more traditional spin correlations. We compute the sensitivity of various observables-including entanglement measures, Bell inequality violations, and quantum uncertainties-to new physics effects using Monte Carlo simulations. Spin correlation observables are found to outperform both the integrated cross-section and quantum information observables in sensitivity to both $CP$-conserving and -violating effects, improving the sensitivity to the scale of new physics by up to a factor of 3. Our results suggest that quantum information observables are suboptimal probes for resurrecting the interference, and more in general to disentangle the $CP$ properties of new physics

Consistent Electroweak Phenomenology of a Nearly Degenerate $Z'$ Boson

Extracting constraints on kinetic mixing between a new $U(1)'$ gauge boson hiding under the Standard Model $Z$ boson resonance requires the formalism of non-Hermitian two-point correlation functions at 1-loop order. We derive self-consistent collider constraints on $Z'$ bosons with kinetic mixing in a narrow mass window around the $Z$ boson, considering both model-independent and model-dependent bounds. Our treatment elucidates the importance of both avoided level crossing and width suppression due to the quantum Zeno effect in interpreting the existing constraints. We also discuss the implications for future measurements on the $Z$-pole.

Quantum Imprint of the Anharmonic Oscillator

We study the anharmonic double well in quantum mechanics using exact Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) methods in a 't Hooft-like double scaling limit where classical behavior is expected to dominate. We compute the tunneling action in this double scaling limit, and compare it to the transition amplitude from the vacuum to a highly excited state. Our results, exact in the semiclassical limit, show that the two expressions coincide, apart from an irreducible and surprising instanton contribution. Thus, the semiclassical limit of the anharmonic oscillator betrays its quantum origin as a rule, which we dub the "quantum imprint rule," showing that the quantum theory is intrinsically gapped from classical behavior. Besides an example of the failure of reductionism and an example of a resurgent connection between perturbative and nonperturbative physics, this work provides a possible classification of theories according to their quantum imprints.
