LP WAN Gateway Location Selection Using Modified K-Dominating Set Algorithm

The LP WAN networks use gateways or base stations to communicate with devices distributed on large distances, up to tens of kilometres. The selection of optimal gateway locations in wireless networks should allow providing the complete coverage for a given set of nodes, taking into account the limitations, such as the number of nodes served per access point or required redundancy. In this paper, we describe the problem of selecting the base stations in a network using the concept of $k$-dominating set. In our model, we include information about the required redundancy and spectral efficiency. We consider the additional requirements on the resulting connections and provide the greedy algorithm for solving the problem. The algorithm is evaluated in randomly generated network topologies and using the coordinates of sample real smart metering networks.

Machine Learning Kernel Method from a Quantum Generative Model

Recently the use of Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) devices for machine learning tasks has been proposed. The propositions often perform poorly due to various restrictions. However, the quantum devices should perform well in sampling tasks. Thus, we recall theory of sampling-based approach to machine learning and propose a quantum sampling based classifier. Namely, we use randomized feature map approach. We propose a method of quantum sampling based on random quantum circuits with parametrized rotations distribution. We obtain simple to use method with intuitive hyper-parameters that performs at least equally well as top out-of-the-box classical methods. In short we obtain a competitive quantum classifier with crucial component being quantum sampling -- a promising task for quantum supremacy.

Quantum walks on hypergraphs

In this work we introduce the concept of a quantum walk on a hypergraph. We show that the staggered quantum walk model is a special case of a quantum walk on a hypergraph.

Quantum distance-based classifier with constant size memory, distributed knowledge and state recycling

In this work we examine recently proposed distance-based classification method designed for near-term quantum processing units with limited resources. We further study possibilities to reduce the quantum resources without any efficiency decrease. We show that only a part of the information undergoes coherent evolution and this fact allows us to introduce an algorithm with significantly reduced quantum memory size. Additionally, considering only partial information at a time, we propose a classification protocol with information distributed among a number of agents. Finally, we show that the information evolution during a measurement can lead to a better solution and that accuracy of the algorithm can be improved by harnessing the state after the final measurement.

Properties of quantum stochastic walks from the asymptotic scaling exponent

This work focuses on the study of quantum stochastic walks, which are a generalization of coherent, i. e. unitary quantum walks. Our main goal is to present a measure of a coherence of the walk. To this end, we utilize the asymptotic scaling exponent of the second moment of the walk i. e. of the mean squared distance covered by a walk. As the quantum stochastic walk model encompasses both classical random walks and quantum walks, we are interested how the continuous change from one regime to the other influences the asymptotic scaling exponent. Moreover this model allows for behavior which is not found in any of the previously mentioned model -- the model with global dissipation. We derive the probability distribution for the walker, and determine the asymptotic scaling exponent analytically, showing that ballistic regime of the walk is maintained even at large dissipation strength.

Lively quantum walks on cycles

We introduce a family of quantum walks on cycles parametrized by their liveliness, defined by the ability to execute a long-range move. We investigate the behaviour of the probability distribution and time-averaged probability distribution. We show that the liveliness parameter, controlling the magnitude of the additional long-range move, has a direct impact on the periodicity of the limiting distribution. We also show that the introduced model provides a method for network exploration which is robust against trapping.

Quantum search with prior knowledge

The aim of this work is to develop a framework for realising quantum network algorithms with the use of prior knowledge about the structure of the network. We seek to obtain computational methods that allows us to locally determine network properties in a quantum superposition and drive the walk behaviour accordingly. In particular, we consider a network that consists of different types of edges, such that the transitions between nodes result in extra edge-dependent phase shift. We combine amplitude amplification and phase estimation to develop an algorithm for exploring such networks. In the layered neural network inspired case we obtain linear increase of the search complexity with exponential growth of the nodes number. We show that in consequence one is able to perform quantum search algorithms with exponential speed-up compared to quantum search that neglects the extra phase shifts.

Constructive quantum scaling of unitary matrices

In this work we present a method of decomposition of arbitrary unitary matrix $U\in\mathbf U(2^k)$ into a product of single-qubit negator and controlled-$\sqrt{\mbox{NOT}}$ gates. Since the product results with negator matrix, which can be treated as complex analogue if bistochastic matrix, our method can be seen as complex analogue of Sinkhorn-Knopp algorithm, where diagonal matrices are replaced by adding and removing an one-qubit ancilla. The decomposition can be found constructively and resulting circuit consists of $O(4^k)$ entangling gates, which is proved to be optimal. An example of such transformation is presented.

Central limit theorem for reducible and irreducible open quantum walks

In this work we aim at proving central limit theorems for open quantum walks on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. We study the case when there are various classes of vertices in the network. Furthermore, we investigate two ways of distributing the vertex classes in the network. First we assign the classes in a regular pattern. Secondly, we assign each vertex a random class with a uniform distribution. For each way of distributing vertex classes, we obtain an appropriate central limit theorem, illustrated by numerical examples. These theorems may have application in the study of complex systems in quantum biology and dissipative quantum computation.

Quantum spatial search on planar networks

This paper deals with the problem of the requirements for quantum systems that enable one to design efficient quantum algorithms. We rise the issue of the possibility to utilise the non-complete networks for algorithmic purposes. In particular we consider applications for the spatial search problems. We focus on showing that the asymptotic complexity widely discussed in the related work is not enough tool for determining the potential of the network. We provide an example of a network where the asymptotic complexity is the same for a variety of cases and yet it is not always possible to implement successful search procedure within the quantum walk scheme. The examples are based on an Apollonian network which models a variety of iteratively generated planar networks. The network is planar, exhibits linear growth of edges number, consists nodes of different degrees and has the small-world and scale-free properties. This motivates its analysis due to the simplicity in terms of connections density and potential for quantum phenomena due to the nodes diversity.

Various methods of optimizing control pulses for quantum systems with decoherence

We study three methods of obtaining an approximation of unitary evolution of a quantum system under decoherence. We use three methods of optimizing the control pulses: genetic optimization, approximate evolution method and approximate gradient method. To model the noise in the system we use the Lindblad equaiton. We obtain results showing that genetic optimization may give a better approximation of a unitary evolution in the case of high noise.

Quantum network exploration with a faulty sense of direction

We develop a model which can be used to analyse the scenario of exploring quantum network with a distracted sense of direction. Using this model we analyse the behaviour of quantum mobile agents operating with non-adaptive and adaptive strategies which can be employed in this scenario. We introduce the notion of node visiting suitable for analysing quantum superpositions of states by distinguishing between visiting and attaining a position. We show that without a proper model of adaptiveness, it is not possible for the party representing the distraction in the sense of direction, to obtain the results analogous to the classical case. Moreover, with additional control resources the total number of attained positions is maintained if the number of visited positions is strictly limited.

Generating efficient quantum circuits for preparing maximally multipartite entangled states

In this work we provide a method for generating quantum circuits preparing maximally multipartite entangled states using genetic programming. The presented method is faster that known realisations thanks to the applied fitness function and several modifications to the genetic programming schema. Moreover, we enrich the described method by the unique possibility to define an arbitrary structure of a system. We use the developed method to find new quantum circuits, which are simpler from known results. We also analyse the efficiency of generating entanglement in the spin chain system and in the system of complete connections.
