Wellposedness and dynamics of two types of reaction--nonlocal diffusion systems under the inhomogeneous spectral fractional Laplacian

Reactio-nonlocal diffusion equations model nonlocal transport and anomalous diffusion by replacing the Laplacian with a fractional power, capturing diffusion mechanisms beyond Brownian motion. We primarily study the semilinear problem \[ \partial_t u + \epsilon^2(-\Delta)_g^\alpha u = \mathcal{N}(u) \] allowing constant inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition $u|_{\partial\Omega}=g$. To handle the boundary constraint, we use a harmonic lifting to reformulate the problem as an equivalent homogeneous system with a shifted nonlinearity. Working in \(C_0(\Omega)\), analytic contraction semigroup theory yields the Duhamel formula and quantitative smoothing, implying local wellposedness for locally Lipschitz reactions and a blow-up alternative. The semigroup viewpoint also provides $L^\infty$-contractivity and positivity preservation, which drive pointwise maximum principles and stability bounds. Furthermore, we analyze two prototypes. For the bistable RNDE, we derive an energy dissipation identity and, using a fractional weak maximum principle, obtain an invariant-range property that confines solutions between the two stable steady states. For the nonlocal Gray-Scott system with possibly different fractional diffusion orders, we prove that solutions preserve positivity. Moreover, we identify an explicit \(L^\infty\) invariant set ensuring global boundedness, and derive an eigenfunction-weighted interior \(L^2\) bound. Finally, we perform numerical simulations using a sine pseudospectral discretization and ETDRK4 time-stepping, which illustrate the impact of fractional orders on pattern formation, consistently with our analytical results.

A preconditioned boundary value method for advection-diffusion equations with half Laplacian via spectrum doubling

In this paper, we study an evolution equation that involves a half-Laplacian operator derived from the Riesz fractional Laplacian, combined with a differential operator \(\mathcal{L}\). Using the identity $(-\Delta)^{1/2}=\mathcal H(\partial_x)$, we introduce a Spectrum Doubling (SD) reformulation that transforms the original half-diffusion equation into a first-order doubled system. The reformulated system exhibits stable and unstable spectral branches, and the original half-diffusion dynamics is recovered on a suitable stable invariant subspace characterized by a compatibility condition on the initial condition. The SD reformulation provides a practical numerical advantage: the half-Laplacian is applied only to the initial condition and source term, avoiding repeated evaluation of singular integrals during time marching. For the resulting integer-order system, we develop a Boundary Value Method (BVM) and study a second-order generalized midpoint scheme. We establish its stability and second-order temporal convergence. The fully discrete scheme leads to a large Kronecker-structured linear system, which is solved efficiently by GMRES with a block $\omega$-circulant preconditioner. Under simultaneous diagonalizability of the spatial discretization matrices, the preconditioner can be implemented efficiently through fast discrete transforms. Numerical experiments for three evelutionary models confirm the theoretical convergence results and demonstrate the robustness and efficiency of the proposed method, including in strongly advective regimes. The experiments also show that the approach remains effective when the Hilbert transform is evaluated numerically, and illustrate the applicability of the SD framework to a nonlocal Schr\"odinger-type example.

A Unified Pilot Design for Integrated Sensing and Communications

This paper investigates a unified pilot signal design in an orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM)-based integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) system. The novel designed two-dimensional (2D) pilot signal is generated on the delay-Doppler (DD) plane for sensing, while its time-frequency (TF) plane transformation acts as the demodulation reference signal (DMRS) for the OFDM data. The well-designed pilot signal preserves orthogonality with the data in terms of resource occupancy in the TF plane and quasi-orthogonality in terms of codeword in the DD plane. Leveraging these nice properties, we are allowed to implement sensing detection in the DD plane using a simple 2D correlation, taking advantage of the favorable auto-correlation properties of the 2D pilot. In the communication part, the transformed pilot in the TF plane serves as a known DMRS for channel estimation and equalization. The 2D pilot design demonstrates good scalability and can adapt to different delay and Doppler resolution requirements without violating the OFDM data detection and can overcome the fractional Doppler with limited sensing resources. Experimental results show the effective sensing performance of the proposed pilot, with only a small fraction of power shared from the OFDM data, while maintaining satisfactory symbol detection performance in communication.

A Hybrid Frame Structure Design of OTFS for Multi-tasks Communications

Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) is a promising waveform in high mobility scenarios for it fully exploits the time-frequency diversity using a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based two dimensional spreading. However, it trades off the processing latency for performance and may not fulfill the stringent latency requirements in some services. This fact motivates us to design a hybrid frame structure where the OTFS and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) are orthogonally multiplexed in the time domain, which can adapt to both diversity-preferred and latency-preferred tasks. As we identify that this orthogonality is disrupted after channel coupling, we provide practical algorithms to mitigate the inter symbol interference between (ISI) the OTFS and OFDM, and the numerical results ensure the effectiveness of the hybrid frame structure.

Underlaid Sensing Pilot for Integrated Sensing and Communications

This paper investigates a novel underlaid sensing pilot signal design for integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) in an OFDM-based communication system. The proposed two-dimensional (2D) pilot signal is first generated on the delay-Doppler (DD) plane and then converted to the time-frequency (TF) plane for multiplexing with the OFDM data symbols. The sensing signal underlays the OFDM data, allowing for the sharing of time-frequency resources. In this framework, sensing detection is implemented based on a simple 2D correlation, taking advantage of the favorable auto-correlation properties of the sensing pilot. In the communication part, the sensing pilot, served as a known signal, can be utilized for channel estimation and equalization to ensure optimal symbol detection performance. The underlaid sensing pilot demonstrates good scalability and can adapt to different delay and Doppler resolution requirements without violating the OFDM frame structure. Experimental results show the effective sensing performance of the proposed pilot, with only a small fraction of power shared from the OFDM data, while maintaining satisfactory symbol detection performance in communication.

Low PAPR Pilot for Delay-Doppler Domain Modulation

This paper studies the low PAPR pilot design in delay-Doppler domain modulation. We adopt a sequence based pilot design instead of the conventional pulse pilot, to mitigate the PAPR issue. We develop simple channel estimation algorithm composes of two-stages which are path identification and channel coefficient estimation. The quantitative analysis on the channel estimation error model is provided. Based on which the principle of pilot sequence design in delay-Doppler domain is revealed. Experiment results shows that the proposed scheme maintains a relatively low PAPR in time domain samples, while the channel estimation performance approaches the ideal channel estimation in limited-Doppler-Shift channel model.

Performance Modeling and Analysis of a Hyperledger-based System Using GSPN

As a highly scalable permissioned blockchain platform, Hyperledger Fabric supports a wide range of industry use cases ranging from governance to finance. In this paper, we propose a model to analyze the performance of a Hyperledgerbased system by using Generalised Stochastic Petri Nets (GSPN). This model decomposes a transaction flow into multiple phases and provides a simulation-based approach to obtain the system latency and throughput with a specific arrival rate. Based on this model, we analyze the impact of different configurations of ordering service on system performance to find out the bottleneck. Moreover, a mathematical configuration selection approach is proposed to determine the best configuration which can maximize the system throughput. Finally, extensive experiments are performed on a running system to validate the proposed model and approaches.

Towards Cooperation by Carrier Aggregation in Heterogeneous Networks: A Hierarchical Game Approach

This paper studies the resource allocation problem for a heterogeneous network (HetNet) in which the spectrum owned by a macro-cell operator (MCO) can be shared by both unlicensed users (UUs) and licensed users (LUs). We formulate a novel hierarchical game theoretic framework to jointly optimize the transmit powers and sub-band allocations of the UUs as well as the pricing strategies of the MCO. In our framework, an overlapping coalition formation (OCF) game has been introduced to model the cooperative behaviors of the UUs. We then integrate this OCF game into a Stackelberg game-based hierarchical framework. We prove that the core of our proposed OCF game is non-empty and introduce an optimal sub-band allocation scheme for UUs. A simple distributed algorithm is proposed for UUs to autonomously form optimal coalition formation structure. The Stackelberg Equilibrium (SE) of the proposed hierarchical game is derived and its uniqueness and optimality have been proved. A distributed joint optimization algorithm is also proposed to approach the SE of the game with limited information exchanges between the MCO and the UU.
