Calibrating Gamma-Ray Bursts by Using a Gaussian Process with Type Ia Supernovae

In this paper, we calibrate the Amati relation (the $E_{\rm p}$-${E}_{\rm iso}$ correlation) of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) in a cosmology-independent way. By using Gaussian process to reconstruct the smoothed luminosity distance from the Pantheon type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) sample, we utilize the reconstructed results to calibrate the $E_{\rm p}$-${E}_{\rm iso}$ correlation with the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method and construct a Hubble diagram with the A220 GRB data, in which there are A118 GRB data with the higher qualities appropriate for cosmological purposes. With 98 GRBs at $1.4<z\leq8.2$ in the A118 sample and the observed Hubble data, we obtain $Ω_{\rm m}$=$0.346^{+0.048}_{-0.069}$, $h$=$0.677^{+0.029}_{-0.029}$ for the flat $Λ$CDM model, and $Ω_{\rm m}$=$0.314^{+0.072}_{-0.055}$, $h$=$0.705^{+0.055}_{-0.069}$, $w$=$-1.23^{+0.33}_{-0.64}$ for the flat $w$CDM model, which are consistent with those from fitting the coefficients of the Amati relation and the cosmological parameters simultaneously.

Cosmological Complexity from initial thermal state

The cosmological scalar perturbations should satisfy the thermal distribution at the beginning of inflation since the cosmic temperature is presumably very high. In this paper, we investigate, by the Fubini-study method, the effect of this thermal contribution, which is characterized by a parameter $κ_{0}$, on the evolution of the cosmological complexity $\mathcal{C}_{FS}$ . We find that when the thermal effect is considered, the Universe would ``decomplex" firstly with the cosmic expansion after the mode of the scalar perturbations exiting the horizon in the de Sitter (dS) phase and $\mathcal{C}_{FS}$ has a minimum about $π/4$. If $\mathcal{C}_{FS}$ can reach its minimum during the dS era, which requires a small $κ_0$ or a large e-folding number for a large $κ_0$, it will bounce back to increase, and after the Universe enters the radiation dominated (RD) phase from the dS one, $\mathcal{C}_{FS}$ will decrease, pass its minimum again, and then increase till the mode reenters the horizon. For the case of a large enough $κ_0$, $\mathcal{C}_{FS}$ decreases but does not reach its minimum during the dS era, and it begins to increase after the transition from the dS phase to the RD one. When the mode reenters the horizon during the RD era, the cosmological complexity will oscillate around about $κ_{0}$. These features are different from that of the initial zero-temperature case, i.e., the cosmological complexity increases during the dS phase and decreases in the RD era till the mode reenters the horizon. Our results therefore suggest that the thermal effect changes qualitatively the evolutionary behavior of the cosmological complexity.

Redshift-evolutionary X-ray and UV luminosity relation of quasars from Gaussian copula

We construct a three-dimensional and redshift-evolutionary X-ray and ultraviolet ($L_X-L_{UV}$) luminosity relation for quasars from the powerful statistic tool called copula, and find that the constructed $L_X-L_{UV}$ relation from copula is more viable than the standard one and the observations favor the redshift-evolutionary relation more than $3σ$. The Akaike and Bayes information criterions indicate that the quasar data support strongly the three-dimensional $L_X-L_{UV}$ relation. Our results show that the quasars can be regarded as a reliable indicator of the cosmic distance if the $L_X-L_{UV}$ relation from copula is used to calibrate quasar data.

Primordial non-Guassianity in inflation with gravitationally enhanced friction

The gravitationally enhanced friction can reduce the speed of the inflaton to realize an ultra-slow-roll inflation, which will amplify the curvature perturbations. The amplified perturbations can generate a sizable amount of primordial black holes (PBHs) and induce simultaneously a significant background gravitational waves (SIGWs). In this paper, we investigate the primordial non-Gaussianity of the curvature perturbations in the inflation with gravitationally enhanced friction. We find that when the gravitationally enhanced friction plays a role in the inflationary dynamics, the non-Gaussianity is noticeably larger than that from the standard slow-roll inflation. During the regime in which the power spectrum of the curvature perturbations is around its peak, the non-Gaussianity parameter changes from negative to positive. When the power spectrum is at its maximum, the non-Gaussianity parameter is near zero ($\sim \mathcal{O}(0.01)$). Furthermore, the primordial non-Gaussianity promotes the formation of PBHs, while its effect on SIGWs is negligible.

Growth of power spectrum due to decrease of sound speed during inflation

We study the amplification of the curvature perturbations due to a small sound speed and find that its origin is different completely from that due to the ultraslow-roll inflation. This is because when the sound speed is very small the enhancement of the power spectrum comes from the fact that the curvature perturbations at the scales smaller than the cosmic microwave background (CMB) scale becomes scale-variant, rather than growing that leads to the amplification of the curvature perturbations during the ultraslow-roll inflation. At large scales the power spectrum of the curvature perturbations remains to be scale invariant, which is consistent with the CMB observations, and then it will have a transient $k^2$ growth and finally approach a $k^4$ growth as the scale becomes smaller and smaller. Thus the power spectrum can be enhanced to generate a sizable amount of primordial black holes. Furthermore, when the high order correction in the dispersion relation of the curvature perturbations is considered the growth of the power spectrum of the curvature perturbations has the same origin as that in the case without this correction.

Gamma ray burst constraints on cosmological models from the improved Amati correlation

An improved Amati correlation was constructed in (ApJ 931 (2022) 50) by us recently. In this paper, we further study constraints on the $Λ$CDM and $w$CDM models from the gamma ray bursts (GRBs) standardized with the standard and improved Amati correlations, respectively. By using the Pantheon type Ia supernova sample to calibrate the latest A220 GRB data set, the GRB Hubble diagram is obtained model-independently. We find that at the high redshift region ($z>1.4$) the GRB distance modulus from the improved Amati correlation is larger apparently than that from the standard Amati one. The GRB data from the standard Amati correlation only give a lower bound limit on the present matter density parameter $Ω_{\mathrm{m0}}$, while the GRBs from the improved Amati correlation constrain the $Ω_{\mathrm{m0}}$ with the $68\%$ confidence level to be $0.308^{+0.066}_{-0.230}$ and $0.307^{+0.057}_{-0.290}$ in the $Λ$CDM and $w$CDM models, respectively, which are consistent very well with those given by other current popular observational data including BAO, CMB and so on. Once the $H(z)$ data are added in our analysis, the constraint on the Hubble constant $H_0$ can be achieved. We find that two different correlations provide slightly different $H_0$ results but the marginalized mean values seem to be close to that from the Planck 2018 CMB observations.

The improved Amati correlations from Gaussian copula

In this paper, we obtain two improved Amati correlations of the Gamma-Ray burst (GRB) data via a powerful statistical tool called copula. After calibrating, with the low-redshift GRB data, the improved Amati correlations based on a fiducial $Λ$CDM model with $Ω_\mathrm{m0}=0.3$ and $H_0=70~\mathrm{km~s^{-1}Mpc^{-1}}$, and extrapolating the results to the high-redshift GRB data, we obtain the Hubble diagram of GRB data points. Applying these GRB data to constrain the $Λ$CDM model, we find that the improved Amati correlation from copula can give a result well consistent with $Ω_\mathrm{m0}=0.3$, while the standard Amati and extended Amati correlations do not. This results suggest that when the improved Amati correlation from copula is used in the low-redshift calibration method, the GRB data can be regarded as a viable cosmological explorer. However, the Bayesian information criterion indicates that the standard Amati correlation remains to be favored mildly since it has the least model parameters. Furthermore, once the simultaneous fitting method rather than the low-redshift calibration one is used, there is no apparent evidence that the improved Amati correlation is better than the standard one. Thus, more works need to be done in the future in order to compare different Amati correlations.

Estimating the Final Spin of Binary Black Holes Merger in STU Supergravity

In this paper, we adopt the so-called Buonanno-Kidder-Lehner (BKL) recipe to estimate the final spin of a rotating binary black hole merger in STU supergravity. According to the BKL recipe, the final spin can be viewed as the sum of the individual spins plus the orbital angular momentum of the binary system which could be approximated as the angular momentum of a test particle orbiting at the innermost stable circular orbit around the final black hole. Unlike previous works, we consider the contribution of the orbital angular momentum of the binary system to the final spin by requiring the test particle to preserve the scaling symmetry in the Lagrangian of supergravity. We find some subtle differences between two cases corresponding to whether the symmetry is taken into account or not. In the equal initial spin configuration, when the initial black holes are non-spinning, the final spin of the merger is always larger than that in the case in which the symmetry is not imposed although the general behaviors are similar. The difference increases firstly and then decreases as the initial mass ratio approaches unity. Besides, as the initial spins exceed a threshold, the final spin is always smaller than that in the case where the scaling symmetry is not considered. The difference decreases constantly as the equal initial mass limit is approached. All these features exist in the merger of a binary STU black hole with different charge configurations. We also study the final spin's difference between different charge configurations and different initial spin configurations.

Bias of reconstructing the dark energy equation of state from the Pad$\acute{e}$ cosmography

Pad$\acute{e}$ cosmography has been widely used to probe the cosmic evolution and to investigate the nature of dark energy. In this paper, we find that the Pad$\acute{e}$ approximant can describe the cosmic evolution better than the standard cosmography, and if the luminosity distance $d_L(z)$ described by the Pad$\acute{e}$ approximant is used to reconstruct the dark energy equation of state $w(z)$, then the reconstructed $w(z)$ will approach a constant, i.e. $1/3$ or $0$, when the redshift is very high. This result is general since it is independent of the coefficients in the Pad$\acute{e}$ approximant and the value of the present dimensionless matter density parameter. This intrinsic character will bias the $w(z)$ reconstruction and lead to misconception of the property of dark energy. Therefore, one must exercise caution in investigating the property of dark energy from Pad$\acute{e}$ cosmography when the high redshift data, i.e. $z>2$, are included.

Shadowless rapidly rotating yet not ultraspinning Kerr-AdS$_4$ and Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ black holes

We find that the Kerr-(Newman)-AdS$_4$ black hole will be shadowless if its rotation parameter is larger than a critical value and the shadowless-ness may be related to the appearance of the null hypersurface caustics (NHC) both inside the Cauchy horizon and outside the event horizon for the black hole with the rotation parameter beyond the critical value. Our studies also further confirm that whether an ultraspinning black hole is super-entropic or not is unrelated to the existence of the NHC outside the event horizon.

Confined Penrose process with charged particles

We show that kinematics of charged particles allows us to model the growth of particles' energy by consecutive particle-splits, once a spherical mirror as a perfectly reflective boundary is placed outside a charged black hole. We consider a charged version of the Penrose process, in which a charged particle decays into two fragments, one of them has negative energy and the other has positive energy that is larger than that of the parent particle. The confinement system with the mirror makes the particles' energy amplified each time a split of the parent particle occurs. Thus, the energy is a monotonically increasing function of time. However, the energy does not increase unboundedly, but rather asymptotes to a certain finite value, implying no instability of the system in this respect.

NANOGrav Signal from First-Order Confinement/Deconfinement Phase Transition in Different QCD Matters

Recently, an indicative evidence of a stochastic process, reported by the NANOGrav Collaboration based on the analysis of 12.5-year pulsar timing array data which might be interpreted as a potential stochastic gravitational wave signal, has aroused keen interest of theorists. The first-order color charge confinement phase transition at the QCD scale could be one of the cosmological sources for the NANOGrav signal. If the phase transition is flavor dependent and happens sequentially, it is important to find that what kind of QCD matter in which the first-order confinement/deconfinement phase transition happens is more likely to be the potential source of the NANOGrav signal during the evolution of the universe. In this paper, we would like to illustrate that the NANOGrav signal could be generated from confinement/deconfinement transition in either heavy static quarks with a zero baryon chemical potential, or quarks with a finite baryon chemical potential. In contrast, the gluon confinement could not possibly be the source for the NANOGrav signal according to the current observation. Future observation will help to distinguish between different scenarios.

Null hypersurface caustics for high dimensional superentropic black holes

A black hole is superentropic if it violates the reverse isoperimetric inequality. Recently, some studies have indicated that some four dimensional superentropic black holes have the null hypersurface caustics (NHC) outside their event horizons. In this paper, we extend to explore whether or not the NHC exists in the cases of high dimensional superentropic black holes. We consider the singly rotating Kerr-AdS superentropic black holes in arbitrary dimensions and the singly rotating charged superentropic black hole in five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity, and find that the NHC exists outside the event horizons for these superentropic black holes. Furthermore, the spacetime dimensions and other parameters of black hole, such as the electric charge, have important impact on the NHC inside the horizon. Our results indicate that when the superentropic black hole has the Cauchy horizon, the NHC will also exist inside the Cauchy horizon.

Resonance instability of primordial gravitational waves during inflation in Chern-Simons gravity

We investigate axion inflation where the gravitational Chern-Simons term is coupled to a periodic function of the inflaton. We find that tensor perturbations with different polarizations are amplified in different ways by the Chern-Simons coupling. Depending on the model parameters, the resonance amplification results in a parity-violating peak or a board plateau in the energy spectrum of gravitational waves, and the sharp cutoff in the infrared region constitutes a characteristic distinguishable from stochastic gravitational wave backgrounds produced by matter fields in Einstein gravity.

Aspects of the dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole and its ultraspinning version

We explore some (especially, thermodynamical) properties of the dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole and its ultraspinning counterpart, and check whether or not both black holes satisfy the first law and Bekenstein-Smarr mass formulas. To this end, new Christodoulou-Ruffini-like squared-mass formulae for the usual dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ solution and its ultraspinning cousin are deduced. Similar to the ultraspinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole case, we demonstrate that the ultraspinning dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole does not always violate the reverse isoperimetric inequality (RII) since the value of the isoperimetric ratio can either be larger/smaller than, or equal to unity, depending upon the range of the solution parameters, as is the case only with an electric charge. This property is apparently distinct from that of the superentropic dyonic Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ black hole, which always strictly violates the RII, although both of them have some similar properties in other aspects, such as the horizon geometry and conformal boundary.

Resonance interaction between two entangled gravitational polarizable objects

We investigate the resonance quadrupole-quadrupole interaction between two entangled gravitationally polarizable objects induced by a bath of fluctuating quantum gravitational fields in vacuum in the framework of linearized quantum gravity. Our result shows that, the interaction energy behaves as $r^{-5}$ in the near regime, and oscillates with a decreasing amplitude proportional to $r^{-1}$ in the far regime, where $r$ is the distance between the two objects. Compared to the case when the two objects are in their ground states, the quantum gravitational interaction is significantly enhanced when the objects are in an entangled state. Remarkably, in the far regime, the resonance quantum gravitational interaction can give the dominating quantum correction to the Newtonian potential, since the extremum is much greater than the monopole-monopole quantum gravitational interaction.

Primordial black holes and oscillating gravitational waves in slow-roll and slow-climb inflation with an intermediate non-inflationary phase

We propose a new single field inflation model in which the usual slow-roll inflation is joined to a new period of slow-climb and slow-roll inflation through a short intermediate non-inflationary phase. We then show that primordial curvature perturbations can be enhanced at small scales, a sizable amount of primordial black holes (PBHs) can be produced which make up most of dark matter, the gravitational waves (GWs) induced by scalar metric perturbations that accompany with the formation of PBHs can be detectable by future GW experiments, and last but not least, our model is compatible with the latest cosmic microwave background observations. Remarkably, the GW spectrum displays a unique oscillating character in the ultraviolet regions which originates from the short non-inflationary phase. A detection of such oscillations in the GW spectrum may suggest the existence of such a non-inflationary phase in the whole inflation, thus providing us a chance to reveal an interesting period in the evolution of the early Universe and distinguish our model from others.

Are ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black holes always super-entropic ?

We study thermodynamics of the four-dimensional Kerr-Sen-AdS black hole and its ultra-spinning counterpart, and verify that both black holes fullfil the first law and Bekenstein-Smarr mass formulae of black hole thermodynamics. Furthermore, we derive new Christodoulou-Ruffini-like squared-mass formulae for the usual and ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ solutions. We show that this ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole does not always violate the Reverse Isoperimetric Inequality (RII) since the value of the isoperimetric ratio can be larger/smaller than, or equal to unity, depending upon where the solution parameters lie in the parameters space. This property is obviously different from that of the Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ super-entropic black hole, which always strictly violates the RII, although both of them have some similar properties in other aspects, such as horizon geometry and conformal boundary. In addition, it is found that while there exists the same lower bound on mass ($m_e \geqslant 8l/\sqrt{27}$ with $l$ being the cosmological scale) both for the extremal ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole and for the extremal super-entropic Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ case, the former has a maximal horizon radius: $r_{\rm\, HP} = l/\sqrt{3}$ which is the minimum of the latter. Therefore, these two different kinds of four-dimensional ultra-spinning charged AdS black holes exhibit some significant physical differences .
