Ab initio mapping of the boundary of the $N=20$ island of inversion

Starting from a chiral two- plus three-nucleon interaction, we perform a systematic study of the low-lying states of neutron-rich nuclei around $N=20$ using the in-medium generator coordinate method (IM-GCM), which combines the multi-reference in-medium similarity renormalization group (MR-IMSRG) with the quantum-number projected generator coordinate method (PGCM) defined in a full single-particle space. The main features of the energy spectra and electromagnetic properties of low-lying states in both even-even and odd-mass nuclei of this mass region are reasonably reproduced. The boundary of the $N=20$ island of inversion (IOI) is investigated, and the results indicate that $^{30}$Ne, $^{29,31,33}$Na, $^{31-34}$Mg, and $^{35}$Al lie within the IOI, whereas $^{29}$F, $^{29}$Ne, $^{30}$Mg, $^{31, 33}$Al, $^{34,35}$Si, and $^{35}$P fall outside it.

Emulating generator coordinate method with extended eigenvector continuation: Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model

We present a benchmark study of generator coordinate method (GCM) combined with eigenvector continuation (EC) in two different schemes for the low-lying states of Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model, where the interaction strength is treated as a controlling parameter, simulating quantum many-body systems with the phase transition from non-collective to collective states. We demonstrate that the EC$_{\rm kmax}$ scheme accurately reproduces the low-lying states of the LMG model. In this scheme, the EC basis consists of the wave functions of low-lying states up to the $k_{\rm max}$-th state of sampling Hamiltonians. Compared to EC$_1$, which only includes the wave functions of the $k$-th state of sampling Hamiltonians for the $k$-th state of a target Hamiltonian, the EC$_{\rm kmax}$ scheme exhibits significantly improved efficiency and accuracy. This study suggests the potential utilization of the extended EC scheme as an efficient emulator for GCM calculations.

The Integrated Pulse Profiles of Fast Radio Bursts

Multi-peaked features appear on the integrated pulse profiles of fast radio burst observed below 2.5 GHz and the instantaneous spectrum of many bursts observed between 4 and 8 GHz. The mechanism of pulse or spectrum shaping has attracted little attention. Here we show that these interference-like pulse profiles are mostly the instantaneous spectra near the source regions of fast radio bursts. The corresponding instantaneous spectra are coincident to the spectrum from a single electron passing through a tapered undulator. The multi-peaked spectrum observed between 4 and 8 GHz can also be explained consistently by this type of spectrum. The spectrum is invisible unless the particles in the radiation beam are bunched. The bunching effect is probably due to the acceleration of particles in the plasma wakefield.
