Deriving Pareto-optimal performance bounds for 1 and 2-relay wireless networks

This work addresses the problem of deriving fundamental trade-off bounds for a 1-relay and a 2-relay wireless network when multiple performance criteria are of interest. It proposes a simple MultiObjective (MO) performance evaluation framework composed of a broadcast and interference-limited network model; capacity, delay and energy performance metrics and an associated MO optimization problem. Pareto optimal performance bounds between end-to-end delay and energy for a capacity-achieving network are given for 1-relay and 2-relay topologies and assessed through simulations. Moreover, we also show in this paper that these bounds are tight since they can be reached by simple practical coding strategies performed by the source and the relays. Two different types of network coding strategies are investigated. Practical performance bounds for both strategies are compared to the theoretical upper bound. Results confirm that the proposed upper bound on delay and energy performance is tight and can be reached with the proposed combined source and network coding strategies.

Chiral Symmetry Breaking in the Dynamical Soft-Wall Model

In this paper a model incorporating chiral symmetry breaking and dynamical soft-wall AdS/QCD is established. The AdS/QCD background is introduced dynamically as suggested by Wayne de Paula etc al and chiral symmetry breaking is discussed by using a bulk scalar field including a cubic term. The mass spectrum of scalar, vector and axial vector mesons are obtained and a comparison with experimental data is presented.

A Model of Fermion Masses and Flavor Mixings with Family Symmetry $SU(3)\otimes U(1)$

The family symmetry $SU(3)\otimes U(1)$ is proposed to solve flavor problems about fermion masses and flavor mixings. It's breaking is implemented by some flavon fields at the high-energy scale. In addition a discrete group $Z_{2}$ is introduced to generate tiny neutrino masses, which is broken by a real singlet scalar field at the middle-energy scale. The low-energy effective theory is elegantly obtained after all of super-heavy fermions are integrated out and decoupling. All the fermion mass matrices are regularly characterized by four fundamental matrices and thirteen parameters. The model can perfectly fit and account for all the current experimental data about the fermion masses and flavor mixings, in particular, it finely predicts the first generation quark masses and the values of $θ^{\,l}_{13}$ and $J_{CP}^{\,l}$ in neutrino physics. All of the results are promising to be tested in the future experiments.

Symmetrical Symplectic Capacity with Applications

In this paper, we first introduce the concept of symmetrical symplectic capacity for symmetrical symplectic manifolds, and by using this symmetrical symplectic capacity theory we prove that there exists at least one symmetric closed characteristic (brake orbit and $S$-invariant brake orbit are two examples) on prescribed symmetric energy surface which has a compact neighborhood with finite symmetrical symplectic capacity.

Quantum transport in a curved one-dimensional quantum wire with spin-orbit interactions

The one-dimensional effective Hamiltonian for a planar curvilinear quantum wire with arbitrary shape is proposed in the presence of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Single electron propagation through a device of two straight lines conjugated with an arc has been investigated and the analytic expressions of the reflection and transmission probabilities have been derived. The effects of the device geometry and the spin-orbit coupling strength $α$ on the reflection and transmission probabilities and the conductance are investigated in the case of spin polarized electron incidence. We find that no spin-flip exists in the reflection of the first junction. The reflection probabilities are mainly influenced by the arc angle and the radius, while the transmission probabilities are affected by both spin-orbit coupling and the device geometry. The probabilities and the conductance take the general behavior of oscillation versus the device geometry parameters and $α$. Especially the electron transportation varies periodically versus the arc angle $θ_{w}$. We also investigate the relationship between the conductance and the electron energy, and find that electron resonant transmission occurs for certain energy. Finally, the electron transmission for the incoming electron with arbitrary state is considered. For the outgoing electron, the polarization ratio is obtained and the effects of the incoming electron state are discussed. We find that the outgoing electron state can be spin polarization and reveal the polarized conditions.

The Geometrical Effects on Electronic Spectrum and Persistent Currents in Mesoscopic Polygon

In this paper, a new mesoscopic polygon which possesses smooth transition at its corners is proposed. Because of the particularity of structure, this kind of mesoscopic polygon can also be a geometrical supperlattice. The geometrical effects on the electron states and persistent current are investigated comprehensively in the presence of magnetic flux. We find that the particular geometric structure of the polygon induces an effective periodic potential which results in gaps in the energy spectrum. The changes of gaps show the consistency with the geometrical twoness of this new polygon. This electronic structure and the corresponding physical properties are found to be periodic with period $ϕ_{0}$ in the magnetic flux $ϕ$ and can be controlled by the geometric method. We also consider the Rahsba spin-orbit interaction which make the energy levels splitting newly to double and leads to an additional small zigzag in one period of the persistent current. These new phenomena may be useful for the applications in quantum device design in the future.

$S_t^1\times S_s^1$-valued lightcone Gauss map of a Lorentzian surface in semi-Euclidean 4-space

We define the notions of $S_t^1\times S_s^1$-valued lightcone Gauss maps, lightcone pedal surface and Lorentzian lightcone height function of Lorentzian surface in semi-Euclidean 4-space and established the relationships between singularities of these objects and geometric invariants of the surface as applications of standard techniques of singularity theory for the Lorentzian lightcone height function.

Experimental indication of anomalous sensitivity in many-body systems: Deterministic randomness in complex quantum collisions?

We have experimentally tested a recently suggested possibility for anomalous sensitivity of the cross sections of dissipative heavy ion collisions. Cross sections for the $^{19}$F+$^{27}$Al dissipative collisions were measured at the fixed energy 118.75 MeV of the $^{19}$F for the 12 different beam spots on the same target foil. The data demonstrate dramatic differences between the cross sections for the different beam spots. The effect may indicate deterministic randomness in complex quantum collisions. New experiments are highly desirable in a view of the fundamental importance of the problem.
