Invariant scalar-flat Kähler metrics on line bundles over generalized flag varieties

Let $G$ be a simply-connected semisimple compact Lie group, $X$ a compact Kähler manifold homogeneous under $G$, and $L$ a negative $G$-equivariant holomorphic line bundle over $X$. We prove that all $G$-invariant Kähler metrics on the total space of $L$ arise from the Calabi ansatz. Using this, we then show that there exists a unique $G$-invariant scalar-flat Kähler metric in each Kähler class of $L$.

Topological Insulators-Based Magnetic Heterostructure

The combination of magnetism and topology in magnetic topological insulators (MTIs) has led to unprecedented advancements of time reversal symmetry-breaking topological quantum physics in the past decade. Compared with the uniform films, the MTI heterostructures provide a better framework to manipulate the spin-orbit coupling and spin properties. In this review, we summarize the fundamental mechanisms related to the physical orders host in (Bi,Sb)2(Te,Se)3-based hybrid systems. Besides, we provide an assessment on the general strategies to enhance the magnetic coupling and spin-orbit torque strength through different structural engineering approaches and effective interfacial interactions. Finally, we offer an outlook of MTI heterostructures-based spintronics applications, particularly in view of their feasibility to achieve room-temperature operation.

Saliency Guided Self-attention Network for Weakly and Semi-supervised Semantic Segmentation

Weakly supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS) using only image-level labels can greatly reduce the annotation cost and therefore has attracted considerable research interest. However, its performance is still inferior to the fully supervised counterparts. To mitigate the performance gap, we propose a saliency guided self-attention network (SGAN) to address the WSSS problem. The introduced self-attention mechanism is able to capture rich and extensive contextual information but may mis-spread attentions to unexpected regions. In order to enable this mechanism to work effectively under weak supervision, we integrate class-agnostic saliency priors into the self-attention mechanism and utilize class-specific attention cues as an additional supervision for SGAN. Our SGAN is able to produce dense and accurate localization cues so that the segmentation performance is boosted. Moreover, by simply replacing the additional supervisions with partially labeled ground-truth, SGAN works effectively for semi-supervised semantic segmentation as well. Experiments on the PASCAL VOC 2012 and COCO datasets show that our approach outperforms all other state-of-the-art methods in both weakly and semi-supervised settings.

Tailoring Hybrid Anomalous Hall Response in Engineered Magnetic Topological Insulator Heterostructures

Engineering the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the emerging magnetic topological insulators (MTIs) has great potentials for quantum information processing and spintronics applications. In this letter, we synthesize the epitaxial Bi2Te3/MnTe magnetic heterostructures and observe pronounced AHE signals from both layers combined together. The evolution of the resulting hybrid AHE intensity with the top Bi2Te3 layer thickness manifests the presence of an intrinsic ferromagnetic phase induced by the topological surface states at the heterolayer-interface. More importantly, by doping the Bi2Te3 layer with Sb, we are able to manipulate the sign of the Berry phase-associated AHE component. Our results demonstrate the un-paralleled advantages of MTI heterostructures over magnetically doped TI counterparts, in which the tunability of the AHE response can be greatly enhanced. This in turn unveils a new avenue for MTI heterostructure-based multifunctional applications.

Magnetic and Electronic Properties of Single-Crystalline BaCoSO

Doped BaCoSO was recently predicted to be a high-temperature superconductor in a new class based on Co and Ni. Using a Co-S self flux method, we synthesized single crystals of the antiferromagnetic insulator BaCoSO. Our magnetic and specific heat measurements and neutron diffraction provide details of its magnetic anisotropy and order. Its band gap was determined to be about 1.3 eV by our measurements of its photoemission spectrum and infrared optical conductivity. Our results can pave the way to exploring the predicted superconductivity in this Co-based material.

Evidence of nematic order and nodal superconducting gap along [110] direction in RbFe2As2

Unconventional superconductivity often intertwines with various forms of order, such as the "nematic" order which breaks the rotational symmetry of the lattice. Investigation of these ordered phases sheds crucial light on the superconductivity itself. Here we report a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) study on RbFe2As2, a heavily hole-doped Fe-based superconductor (FeSC). We observe significant symmetry breaking in its electronic structure and magnetic vortex which differentiates the (π, π) and (π, -π) directions of the unfolded Brillouin zone (BZ). It is thus a novel nematic state, distinct from the nematicity of undoped/lightly-doped FeSCs which breaks the (π, 0) / (0, π) equivalence. Moreover, we observe a clear "V"-shaped superconducting gap which can be well fitted with a nodal gap function. The gap is found to be suppressed on surface Rb vacancies and at step edges, and the suppression is particularly strong at the [110]-oriented edges. This is possibly due to a dx2-y2 like pairing component with nodes along the [110] directions. We further demonstrated that such (π, π) nematic state can be suppressed via surface electron doping to RbFe2As2, and the superconductivity is subsequently enhanced. Our results thus highlight the intimate connection between nematicity and superconducting pairing in iron-based superconductors.

Uniaxial dynamical decoupling for an open quantum system

Dynamical decoupling (DD) is an active and effective method for suppressing decoherence of a quantum system from its environment. In contrast to the nominal biaxial DD,this work presents a uniaxial decoupling protocol that requires a significantly reduced number of pulses and a much lower bias field satisfying the "magic" condition. We show this uniaxial DD protocol works effectively in a number of model systems of practical interests, e.g., a spinor atomic Bose-Einstein condensate in stray magnetic fields (classical noise), or an electron spin coupled to nuclear spins (quantum noise) in a semiconductor quantum dot. It requires only half the number of control pulses and a 10-100 times lower bias field for decoupling as normally employed in the above mentioned illustrative examples, and the overall efficacy is robust against rotation errors of the control pulses. The uniaxial DD protocol we propose shines new light on coherent controls in quantum computing and quantum information processing, quantum metrology, and low field nuclear magnetic resonance.

Quantum repeater without Bell measurment in double quantum dot system

We propose a Bell measurement free scheme to implement a quantum repeater in GaAs/AlGa double qunatum dot systems.we prove the four pairs of double quantum dots compose an entanglement unit, given the the initial state is singlet states. Our shceme differs from the famous Duan-Lukin-Cirac-zoller(DLCZ) protocol in that Bell measurements are unneccessary for the entanglement swapping, which provides great advantages and conveniences in experimental implementaion. Our scheme significantly improve the success probability of quantum repeaters based on solid state quantum devices.
