Testing the Wave-Particle Duality of Gravitational Wave Using the Spin-Orbital-Hall Effect of Structured Light

Probing the polarization of gravitational waves (GWs) would provide an evidence of graviton, indicating the quantization of gravity. Motivated by the next generation of gravitational wave detectors, we make an attempt to study the possible helicity coupling of structured lights to GWs. With the analogue between of gravitational fields and the generic electromagnetic media, we present a 4-vector optical Dirac equation based on the Maxwell theory under the paraxial approximation. It is found that twisted lights propagating in a gravitational field can be viewed as a non-Hermitian system with the $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry. We further demonstrate that the coupling effect between angular momentums of the GWs and twisted lights may make photons undergo both dipole and quadrupole transitions between different orbital-angular-momentum(OAM) eigenstates and leads to some measurable optical features, including the central intensity brightening and macroscopic rotation of the intensity pattern for twisted lights. The former is spin-independent while the later is spin dependent phenomena, both of which can be viewed alternatively as the spin-orbital-Hall effect of structured lights in the GWs and can serve as an indicator of the particle nature of GWs.

Four-Vector Optical Dirac Equation and Spin-Orbit Interaction of Structured Light

The spin-orbit interaction of light is a crucial concept for understanding the electromagnetic properties of a material and realizing the spin-controlled manipulation of optical fields. Achieving these goals requires a complete description of spin-dependent optical phenomena in the context of vector-wave mechanics. We develop an extended Dirac theory for optical fields in generic media, which was found to be akin to a non-Hermitian chiral-extension of massive fermions with anomalous magnetic momenta moving in an external pseudo-magnetic field. This similarity allows us to investigate the optical behaviors of a material by effective field theory methods and can find wide applications in metamaterials, photonic topological insulators, etc. We demonstrate this method by studying the spin-orbit interaction of structured light in a spin-degenerate medium and inhomogeneous isotropic medium, which leads to both spin-orbital-Hall effects and spin-to-orbital angular momentum conversion. Of importance, our approach provides simple and clear physical insight into the spin-orbit interaction of light in generic media, and could potentially bridge our understanding of topological insulators between electronic and photonic systems.

Order Book Queue Hawkes-Markovian Modeling

This article presents a Hawkes process model with Markovian baseline intensities for high-frequency order book data modeling. We classify intraday order book trading events into a range of categories based on their order types and the price changes after their arrivals. To capture the stimulating effects between multiple types of order book events, we use the multivariate Hawkes process to model the self- and mutually-exciting event arrivals. We also integrate a Markovian baseline intensity into the event arrival dynamic, by including the impacts of order book liquidity state and time factor to the baseline intensity. A regression-based non-parametric estimation procedure is adopted to estimate the model parameters in our Hawkes+Markovian model. To eliminate redundant model parameters, LASSO regularization is incorporated in the estimation procedure. Besides, model selection method based on Akaike Information Criteria is applied to evaluate the effect of each part of the proposed model. An implementation example based on real LOB data is provided. Through the example, we study the empirical shapes of Hawkes excitement functions, the effects of liquidity state as well as time factors, the LASSO variable selection, and the explanatory power of Hawkes and Markovian elements to the dynamics of the order book.
