Exotic 4f Correlated Electronic States of Ferromagnetic Kondo Lattice Compounds ReRh$_6$Ge$_4$ (Re=Ce, Ho, Er, Tm)

CeRh$_6$Ge$_4$ stands out as the first stoichiometric metallic compound with a ferromagnetic quantum critical point, thereby garnering significant attention. Ferromagnetic Kondo lattice compounds ReRh$_6$Ge$_4$ (Re=Ce, Ho, Er, Tm) have been systematically investigated with density functional theory incorporating Coulomb interaction U and spin-orbital coupling. We determined the magnetic easy axis of CeRh$_6$Ge$_4$ is within the ab plane, which is in agreement with previous magnetization measurements conducted under external magnetic field and muSR experiments. We also predicted the magnetic easy axes for the other three compounds. For TmRh$_6$Ge$_4$, the magnetic easy axis aligns along the c axis, thus preserving the $C_3$ rotational symmetry of the c axis. Especially, there are triply degenerate nodal points along the $\Gamma-A$ direction in the band structure including spin-orbital coupling. A possible localized to itinerant crossover is revealed as $4f$ electrons increase from CeRh$_6$Ge$_4$ to TmRh$_6$Ge$_4$. Specifically, the $4f$ electrons of TmRh$_6$Ge$_4$ contribute to the formation of a large Fermi surface, indicating their participation in the conduction process. Conversely, the $4f$ electrons in HoRh$_6$Ge$_4$, ErRh$_6$Ge$_4$ and CeRh$_6$Ge$_4$ remain localized, which result in smaller Fermi surfaces for these compounds. These theoretical investigations on electronic structure and magnetic properties shed deep insight into the unique nature of $4f$ electrons, providing critical predictions for subsequent experimental studies.

Enhancement of $d$-wave pairing in the striped phase with the nearest neighbour attraction

Recently, the experimental results by the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy suggested that an additional strong nearest neighbor attraction in the Hubbard model might be significant to describe the properties of doped cuprates more accurately. The stripe-ordered patterns, formed by the inhomogeneous distribution of spin, charge and pairing correlations in the CuO$_{2}$ planes, is a known feature of doped cuprates. In this work, the effect of the nearest neighbor attraction and the stripe phase are examined by using the constrained path quantum Monte Carlo method within the repulsive Hubbard model on two-dimensional square lattice. The ground state spin correlations along and cross the stripe regions, and the $d$-wave pairing correlation are calculated. It is found that the spin-spin correlation is the highest when the interstripe region is fairly close to half-filling, and $d$-wave superconducting correlation on neighboring sites could be enhanced in the presence of stripe pattern and strong nearest neighbor attraction, which reveals their crucial roles on superconductivity in the doped cuprates.

Superconductivity in twisted multilayer graphene: a smoking gun in recent condensed matter physics

In this article, we review the recent discoveries of exotic phenomena in graphene, especially superconductivity. It has been theoretically suggested for more than one decade that superconductivity may emerge in doped graphene-based materials. For single-layer graphene, there are theoretical predictions that spin-singlet $d+id$ pairing superconductivity is present when the filling is around the Dirac point. If the Fermi level is doped to the Van Hove singularity where the density of states diverges, then unconventional superconductivity with other pairing symmetry would appear. However, the experimental perspective was a bit disappointing. Despite extensive experimental efforts, superconductivity was not found in monolayer graphene. Recently, unconventional superconductivity was found in "magic-angle" twisted bilayer graphene. Superconductivity was also found in ABC stacked trilayer graphene and other systems. In this article, we review the unique properties of superconducting states in graphene, experimentally controlling the superconductivity in twisted bilayer graphene, as well as a gate-tunable Mott insulator, and the superconductivity in trilayer graphene. These discoveries have attracted the attention of a large number of physicists. The study of the electronic correlated states in twisted multilayer graphene serves as a smoking gun in recent condensed matter physics.

Intermediate Phase in Interacting Dirac Fermions with Staggered Potential

By performing exact quantum Monte Carlo simulations of a model of interacting Dirac Fermions with staggered potential, we reveal a novel intermediate phase where the electronic correlations drive a band insulator metallic, and at a larger interaction, drive the metal to Mott insulator. We also show that the Mott insulating phase is antiferromagnetic. A complete phase diagram is achieved by studying the phase transitions at large staggered potential and interaction strengths, which shows that the intermediate state is robust and occupies a large part of the phase diagram and that it should be more feasible to be detected experimentally.

Degenerate orbital effect in a three orbital periodic Anderson model

The competition between the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida effect and Kondo effect is a central subject of periodic Anderson model. By using the density matrix embedding theory, we study a three orbital periodic Anderson model, in which the effects of degenerate conduction orbitals via the local magnetic moments, number of electrons, and spin-spin correlation functions, are investigated. From the phase diagram at half filling, we find there exists two different anti-ferromagnetic phases and one paramagnetic phase. To explore the difference of the two anti-ferromagnetic phases, the topology of Fermi surface and the connection with standard periodic Anderson model are considered. The spin-spin correlation functions yield insight into the competition between Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction and Kondo interaction. We further find there is a "scaling transformation" connects different ratio of the hybridization strength.

The intermediate and spin-liquid phase of the half-filled honeycomb Hubbard model

We obtain the phase-diagram of the half-filled honeycomb Hubbard model with density matrix embedding theory, to address recent controversy at intermediate couplings. We use clusters from 2-12 sites and lattices at the thermodynamic limit. We identify a paramagnetic insulating state, with possible hexagonal cluster order, competitive with the antiferromagnetic phase at intermediate coupling. However, its stability is strongly cluster and lattice size dependent, explaining controver- sies in earlier work. Our results support the paramagnetic insulator as being a metastable, rather than a true, intermediate phase, in the thermodynamic limit.
