Semantic-guided Masked Mutual Learning for Multi-modal Brain Tumor Segmentation with Arbitrary Missing Modalities

Malignant brain tumors have become an aggressive and dangerous disease that leads to death worldwide.Multi-modal MRI data is crucial for accurate brain tumor segmentation, but missing modalities common in clinical practice can severely degrade the segmentation performance. While incomplete multi-modal learning methods attempt to address this, learning robust and discriminative features from arbitrary missing modalities remains challenging. To address this challenge, we propose a novel Semantic-guided Masked Mutual Learning (SMML) approach to distill robust and discriminative knowledge across diverse missing modality scenarios.Specifically, we propose a novel dual-branch masked mutual learning scheme guided by Hierarchical Consistency Constraints (HCC) to ensure multi-level consistency, thereby enhancing mutual learning in incomplete multi-modal scenarios. The HCC framework comprises a pixel-level constraint that selects and exchanges reliable knowledge to guide the mutual learning process. Additionally, it includes a feature-level constraint that uncovers robust inter-sample and inter-class relational knowledge within the latent feature space. To further enhance multi-modal learning from missing modality data, we integrate a refinement network into each student branch. This network leverages semantic priors from the Segment Anything Model (SAM) to provide supplementary information, effectively complementing the masked mutual learning strategy in capturing auxiliary discriminative knowledge. Extensive experiments on three challenging brain tumor segmentation datasets demonstrate that our method significantly improves performance over state-of-the-art methods in diverse missing modality settings.

Advancing Medical Image Segmentation via Self-supervised Instance-adaptive Prototype Learning

Medical Image Segmentation (MIS) plays a crucial role in medical therapy planning and robot navigation. Prototype learning methods in MIS focus on generating segmentation masks through pixel-to-prototype comparison. However, current approaches often overlook sample diversity by using a fixed prototype per semantic class and neglect intra-class variation within each input. In this paper, we propose to generate instance-adaptive prototypes for MIS, which integrates a common prototype proposal (CPP) capturing common visual patterns and an instance-specific prototype proposal (IPP) tailored to each input. To further account for the intra-class variation, we propose to guide the IPP generation by re-weighting the intermediate feature map according to their confidence scores. These confidence scores are hierarchically generated using a transformer decoder. Additionally we introduce a novel self-supervised filtering strategy to prioritize the foreground pixels during the training of the transformer decoder. Extensive experiments demonstrate favorable performance of our method.

Beating stripe solitons arising from helicoidal spin-orbit coupling in Bose-Einstein condensates

We demonstrate that the model of a spatially non-uniform two-component Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) featuring the helicoidal spin-orbit coupling (SOC), gives rise to dark-bright soliton complexes characterized by spatiotemporal periodic oscillations in each component. These solitons are formed by the superposition of dark and bright ones, and exhibit a beating state over time and a striped state across space, earning them the designation of beating stripe solitons. Our analysis demonstrates that helicoidal SOC significantly affects the formation and dynamical properties of these solitons, also serving as the primary driver for spin oscillations. Through the nonlinear superposition of the beating stripe solitons, a range of intricate scenarios of the interaction between multiple solitons emerges, including head-on collisions, bound states, and parallel states.

Pathwise uniform convergence of numerical approximations for a two-dimensional stochastic Navier-Stokes equation with no-slip boundary conditions

This paper investigates the pathwise uniform convergence in probability of fully discrete finite-element approximations for the two-dimensional stochastic Navier-Stokes equations with multiplicative noise, subject to no-slip boundary conditions. We demonstrate that the full discretization achieves nearly $ 3/2$-order convergence in space and nearly half-order convergence in time.

Pathwise uniform convergence of a full discretization for a three-dimensional stochastic Allen-Cahn equation with multiplicative noise

This paper analyzes a full discretization of a three-dimensional stochastic Allen-Cahn equation with multiplicative noise. The discretization combines the Euler scheme for temporal approximation and the finite element method for spatial approximation. A pathwise uniform convergence rate is derived, encompassing general spatial \( L^q \)-norms, by using discrete versions of deterministic and stochastic maximal \( L^p \)-regularity estimates. Additionally, the theoretical convergence rate is validated through numerical experiments. The primary contribution of this work is the introduction of a technique to establish the pathwise uniform convergence of finite element-based full discretizations for nonlinear stochastic parabolic equations within the framework of general spatial \( L^q \)-norms.

Robust topological interface states in a lateral magnetic-topological heterostructure

Introducing uniform magnetic order in two-dimensional topological insulators (2D TIs) by constructing heterostructures of TI and magnet is a promising way to realize the high-temperature Quantum Anomalous Hall effect. However, the topological properties of 2D materials are susceptible to several factors that make them difficult to maintain, and whether topological interfacial states (TISs) can exist at magnetic-topological heterostructure interfaces is largely unknown. Here, we experimentally show that TISs in a lateral heterostructure of CrTe_{2}/Bi(110) are robust against disorder, defects, high magnetic fields (time-reversal symmetry breaking perturbations), and elevated temperature (77 K). The lateral heterostructure is realized by lateral epitaxial growth of bilayer (BL) Bi to monolayer CrTe_{2} grown on HOPG. Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and non-contact Atomic Force Microscopy demonstrate a black phosphorus-like structure with low atomic buckling (less than 0.1 Å) of the BL Bi(110), indicating the presence of its topological properties. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy and energy-dependent dI/dV mapping further confirm the existence of topologically induced one-dimensional in-gap states localized at the interface. These results demonstrate the robustness of TISs in lateral magnetic-topological heterostructures, which is competitive with those in vertically stacked magnetic-topological heterostructures, and provides a promising route for constructing planar high-density non-dissipative devices using TISs.

Ultra-high-amplitude Peregrine solitons induced by helicoidal spin-orbit coupling

In the framework of the model of a spatially non-uniform Bose-Einstein condensate with helicoidal spin-orbit (SO) coupling, we find abnormal Peregrine solitons (PSs) on top of flat and periodic backgrounds, with ultra-high amplitudes. We explore the roles of the SO coupling strength and helicity pitch in the creation of these anomalously tall PSs and find that their amplitude, normalized to the background height, attains indefinitely large values. The investigation of the modulation instability (MI) in the same system demonstrates that these PSs exist in a range of relatively weak MI, maintaining the feasibility of their experimental observation.

Attention Calibration for Disentangled Text-to-Image Personalization

Recent thrilling progress in large-scale text-to-image (T2I) models has unlocked unprecedented synthesis quality of AI-generated content (AIGC) including image generation, 3D and video composition. Further, personalized techniques enable appealing customized production of a novel concept given only several images as reference. However, an intriguing problem persists: Is it possible to capture multiple, novel concepts from one single reference image? In this paper, we identify that existing approaches fail to preserve visual consistency with the reference image and eliminate cross-influence from concepts. To alleviate this, we propose an attention calibration mechanism to improve the concept-level understanding of the T2I model. Specifically, we first introduce new learnable modifiers bound with classes to capture attributes of multiple concepts. Then, the classes are separated and strengthened following the activation of the cross-attention operation, ensuring comprehensive and self-contained concepts. Additionally, we suppress the attention activation of different classes to mitigate mutual influence among concepts. Together, our proposed method, dubbed DisenDiff, can learn disentangled multiple concepts from one single image and produce novel customized images with learned concepts. We demonstrate that our method outperforms the current state of the art in both qualitative and quantitative evaluations. More importantly, our proposed techniques are compatible with LoRA and inpainting pipelines, enabling more interactive experiences.

Diffusion Model is Secretly a Training-free Open Vocabulary Semantic Segmenter

The pre-trained text-image discriminative models, such as CLIP, has been explored for open-vocabulary semantic segmentation with unsatisfactory results due to the loss of crucial localization information and awareness of object shapes. Recently, there has been a growing interest in expanding the application of generative models from generation tasks to semantic segmentation. These approaches utilize generative models either for generating annotated data or extracting features to facilitate semantic segmentation. This typically involves generating a considerable amount of synthetic data or requiring additional mask annotations. To this end, we uncover the potential of generative text-to-image diffusion models (e.g., Stable Diffusion) as highly efficient open-vocabulary semantic segmenters, and introduce a novel training-free approach named DiffSegmenter. The insight is that to generate realistic objects that are semantically faithful to the input text, both the complete object shapes and the corresponding semantics are implicitly learned by diffusion models. We discover that the object shapes are characterized by the self-attention maps while the semantics are indicated through the cross-attention maps produced by the denoising U-Net, forming the basis of our segmentation results.Additionally, we carefully design effective textual prompts and a category filtering mechanism to further enhance the segmentation results. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets show that the proposed DiffSegmenter achieves impressive results for open-vocabulary semantic segmentation.

Three-dimensional solitons in Rydberg-Dressed cold atomic gases with spin-orbit coupling

We present numerical results for three-dimensional (3D) solitons with symmetries of the semi-vortex (SV) and mixed-mode (MM) types, which can be created in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates of Rydberg atoms under the action of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC). By means of systematic numerical computations, we demonstrate that the interplay of SOC and long-range spherically symmetric Rydberg interactions stabilize the 3D solitons, improving their resistance to collapse. We find how the stability range depends on the strengths of the SOC and Rydberg interactions and the soft-core atomic radius.

Controlled non-autonomous matter-wave solitons in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates with spatiotemporal modulation

To study controlled evolution of non-autonomous matter-wave solitons in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates with spatiotemporal modulation, we focus on a system of three coupled Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equations with space-time-dependent external potentials and temporally modulated gain/loss distributions. An integrability condition and a non-isospectral Lax pair for the coupled GP equations are obtained. Using it, we derive an infinite set of dynamical invariants, the first two of which are the mass and momentum. The Darboux transform is used to generate one- and two-soliton solutions. Under the action of different external potentials and gain/loss distributions, various solutions for controlled non-autonomous matter-wave solitons of both ferromagnetic and polar types are obtained, such as self-compressed, snake-like and stepwise solitons, and as well as breathers. In particular, the formation of states resembling rogue waves, under the action of a sign-reversible gain-loss distribution, is demonstrated too. Shape-preserving and changing interactions between two non-autonomous matter-wave solitons and bound states of solitons are addressed too. In this context, spin switching arises in the polar-ferromagnetic interaction. Stability of the non-autonomous matter-wave solitons is verified by means of systematic simulations of their perturbed evolution.

A numerical simulation method of fish adaption behavior based on deep reinforcement learning and fluid-structure coupling-realization of some lateral line functions

Improving the numerical method of fish autonomous swimming behavior in complex environments is of great significance to the optimization of bionic controller, the design of fish passing facilities and the study of fish behavior. This work has built a fish autonomous swimming simulation platform, which adapts the high-precision IB-LBM to simulate the dynamic process of the interaction between the fish and the flow field in real time, and realizes the fish brain motion control through the SAC deep reinforcement learning algorithm.More importantly,in view of the poor generalization of the existing simulation platform,a method to simulate the fish's lateral line function is proposed.By adding the Lateral-line machine and designing the Macro-action system, the intelligent fish has the ability to recognize, classify, memorize and transplant the corresponding swimming strategy in the unsteady field.Using this method, the training and simulation of point-to-point predation swimming and Kamangait test under different inlet velocities are carried out.In the example of point-to-point predation swimming, the fish in random position can adjust the swimming posture and speed autonomously to catch the fast moving food, and has a certain prediction ability on the movement trajectory of the food.In the Kaman-gait test, the trained fish are placed in three different Kamangait flow fields,to study its ability to recognize the flow field and select swimming strategies through experience. The results of numerical experiments show that, comparing with the other value function networks, the SAC algorithm based on maximum entropy has more advantages in convergence speed and training efficiency when simulating fish brain decision-making.The use of the Lateral line Machine and Macro-action system can avoid the waste of experience and improve the adaptability of intelligent fish in the new complex flow field environment.

KiPA22 Report: U-Net with Contour Regularization for Renal Structures Segmentation

Three-dimensional (3D) integrated renal structures (IRS) segmentation is important in clinical practice. With the advancement of deep learning techniques, many powerful frameworks focusing on medical image segmentation are proposed. In this challenge, we utilized the nnU-Net framework, which is the state-of-the-art method for medical image segmentation. To reduce the outlier prediction for the tumor label, we combine contour regularization (CR) loss of the tumor label with Dice loss and cross-entropy loss to improve this phenomenon.

Seq-Masks: Bridging the gap between appearance and gait modeling for video-based person re-identification

ideo-based person re-identification (Re-ID) aims to match person images in video sequences captured by disjoint surveillance cameras. Traditional video-based person Re-ID methods focus on exploring appearance information, thus, vulnerable against illumination changes, scene noises, camera parameters, and especially clothes/carrying variations. Gait recognition provides an implicit biometric solution to alleviate the above headache. Nonetheless, it experiences severe performance degeneration as camera view varies. In an attempt to address these problems, in this paper, we propose a framework that utilizes the sequence masks (SeqMasks) in the video to integrate appearance information and gait modeling in a close fashion. Specifically, to sufficiently validate the effectiveness of our method, we build a novel dataset named MaskMARS based on MARS. Comprehensive experiments on our proposed large wild video Re-ID dataset MaskMARS evidenced our extraordinary performance and generalization capability. Validations on the gait recognition metric CASIA-B dataset further demonstrated the capability of our hybrid model.

Subtask-dominated Transfer Learning for Long-tail Person Search

Person search unifies person detection and person re-identification (Re-ID) to locate query persons from the panoramic gallery images. One major challenge comes from the imbalanced long-tail person identity distributions, which prevents the one-step person search model from learning discriminative person features for the final re-identification. However, it is under-explored how to solve the heavy imbalanced identity distributions for the one-step person search. Techniques designed for the long-tail classification task, for example, image-level re-sampling strategies, are hard to be effectively applied to the one-step person search which jointly solves person detection and Re-ID subtasks with a detection-based multi-task framework. To tackle this problem, we propose a Subtask-dominated Transfer Learning (STL) method. The STL method solves the long-tail problem in the pretraining stage of the dominated Re-ID subtask and improves the one-step person search by transfer learning of the pretrained model. We further design a Multi-level RoI Fusion Pooling layer to enhance the discrimination ability of person features for the one-step person search. Extensive experiments on CUHK-SYSU and PRW datasets demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method.
