Pezego-HITL: A policy-grounded large language model architecture for agricultural extension in Ghana

Large language models are increasingly deployed in agricultural decision-support settings, yet high-stakes crop protection in smallholder agriculture requires more than output-quality benchmarks. Over a two-year design and evaluation programme, we formalise policy-constrained large language model assessment as an adaptive compute allocation problem that jointly captures safety compliance, helpfulness, operational latency, and expert supervision workload. We introduce P-EVAL (Policy-grounded Expert-calibrated VALidation protocol), a unified evaluation framework for policy-grounded decision support, evaluating the architecture on a simulated field query database consisting of 1,240 cases. The protocol is instantiated on the Pezego advisory architecture (Pezego-HITL) and evaluated in Ghana. Following offline judge calibration against gold-standard human expert decisions ($\kappa = 0.77$), we evaluate the architectural performance under simulated query workloads. Under P-EVAL, our memory-routed architecture improves the Policy Alignment Rate (PAR) to 0.94 and the Agronomic Utility Rate (AUR) to 0.95, while reducing P95 latency by 55% (from 28.6s to 12.9s) through a 59.6% cache reuse ratio. We also demonstrate generalisability using the open-source \texttt{Qwen3.5-9B-DeepSeek-V4-Flash} model, achieving a PAR of 0.86 and a 54.5% latency reduction (to 10.2s). To evaluate practical utility and socio-technical integration, we administer detailed questionnaires to Ghanaian Extension Services Officers ($N=30$) and smallholder farmers ($N=36$). Taken together, this work demonstrates how policy-grounded structured retrieval-augmented generation with validated-memory routing makes safety-utility-latency trade-offs explicit, offering a scalable template for trustworthy AI-driven extension in smallholder farming systems.

Pinching-Antenna Enabled Multicell Wireless Systems

Pinching antenna (PA) systems have recently emerged as a promising flexible-antenna technology, which can reconstruct the wireless propagation environment by dynamically adjusting the positions of pinching elements along dielectric waveguides, thereby providing new spatial degrees of freedom (DoFs) for enhancing wireless system performance. This paper investigates a multi-waveguide PA-based multi-cell communication system, focusing on the joint optimization of precoding matrices, waveguide power allocation, and antenna placement to maximize the weighted sum rate (WSR). In multi-cell scenarios, inter-cell interference typically leads to a highly coupled and nonconvex WSR maximization problem. To address this challenge, an efficient alternating optimization framework is adopted to optimize each variable in an iterative way. Specifically, fractional programming is first employed to reformulate the original problem by introducing auxiliary variables that decouple the signal and interference terms. Based on this reformulation, block coordinate descent is then applied to optimize the precoding matrices and power allocation, leading to closed-form or semi-closed-form updates. For the high-dimensional and nonconvex PA placement problem, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is utilized to perform an efficient search and improve scalability. Numerical results demonstrate that, under various system configurations, the proposed scheme significantly outperforms baseline methods, including average power allocation, fixed antenna placement, conventional multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), and massive MIMO. These results highlight the strong potential of PA systems for large-scale multi-cell wireless communications.

Is My RPC Response Reliable? Detecting RPC Bugs in Ethereum Blockchain Client under Context

Blockchain clients are fundamental software for running blockchain nodes. They provide users with various RPC (Remote Procedure Call) interfaces to interact with the blockchain. These RPC methods are expected to follow the same specification across different blockchain nodes, providing users with seamless interaction. However, there have been continuous reports on various RPC bugs that can cause unexpected responses or even Denial of Service weakness. Existing studies on blockchain RPC bug detection mainly focus on generating the RPC method calls for testing blockchain clients. However, a wide range of the reported RPC bugs are triggered in various blockchain contexts. To the best of our knowledge, little attention is paid to generating proper contexts that can trigger these context-dependent RPC bugs. In this work, we propose EthCRAFT, a Context-aware RPC Analysis and Fuzzing Tool for client RPC bug detection. EthCRAFT first proposes to explore the state transition program space of blockchain clients and generate various transactions to construct the context. EthCRAFT then designs a context-aware RPC method call generation method to send RPC calls to the blockchain clients. The responses of 5 different client implementations are used as cross-referring oracles to detect the RPC bugs. We evaluate EthCRAFT on real-world RPC bugs collected from the GitHub issues of Ethereum client implementations. Experiment results show that EthCRAFT outperforms existing client RPC detectors by detecting more RPC bugs. Moreover, EthCRAFT has found six new bugs in major Ethereum clients and reported them to the developers. One of the bug fixes has been written into breaking changes in the client's updates. Three of our bug reports have been offered a vulnerability bounty by the Ethereum Foundation.

Joint Active and Passive Beamforming with Sensing-Assisted Discrete Phase Shifts for Dual-RIS ISAC Systems

Targeting the requirements of 6G, this paper investigates a semi-passive dual-reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system, tackling the max-min user signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) problem via joint active and passive beamforming to enhance system performance and ensure user fairness. Addressing this challenge, we first utilize dual RISs for user angle estimation to simplify the solution process of the formulated problem, an efficient alternating optimization algorithm is then developed. Specifically, semi-definite relaxation and the bisection method are employed to solve the transmit beamforming optimization subproblem. For the RIS discrete phase shifts, a sensing-assisted approach is adopted to constrain the optimization search space, with two distinct low-complexity search strategies introduced for different RIS sizes. Numerical simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves performance close to the ideal continuous phase shift benchmark, outperforms conventional discrete phase shift optimization algorithms, and exhibits a significant improvement over single-RIS systems.

KG-FGNN: Knowledge-guided GNN Foundation Model for Fertilisation-oriented Soil GHG Flux Prediction

Precision soil greenhouse gas (GHG) flux prediction is essential in agricultural systems for assessing environmental impacts, developing emission mitigation strategies and promoting sustainable agriculture. Due to the lack of advanced sensor and network technologies on majority of farms, there are challenges in obtaining comprehensive and diverse agricultural data. As a result, the scarcity of agricultural data seriously obstructs the application of machine learning approaches in precision soil GHG flux prediction. This research proposes a knowledge-guided graph neural network framework that addresses the above challenges by integrating knowledge embedded in an agricultural process-based model and graph neural network techniques. Specifically, we utilise the agricultural process-based model to simulate and generate multi-dimensional agricultural datasets for 47 countries that cover a wide range of agricultural variables. To extract key agricultural features and integrate correlations among agricultural features in the prediction process, we propose a machine learning framework that integrates the autoencoder and multi-target multi-graph based graph neural networks, which utilises the autoencoder to selectively extract significant agricultural features from the agricultural process-based model simulation data and the graph neural network to integrate correlations among agricultural features for accurately predict fertilisation-oriented soil GHG fluxes. Comprehensive experiments were conducted with both the agricultural simulation dataset and real-world agricultural dataset to evaluate the proposed approach in comparison with well-known baseline and state-of-the-art regression methods. The results demonstrate that our proposed approach provides superior accuracy and stability in fertilisation-oriented soil GHG prediction.

Reconfigurable Codebook-Based Beamforming for RDARS-Aided mmWave MU-MIMO Systems

Reconfigurable distributed antenna and reflecting surface (RDARS) is a new architecture for the sixth-generation (6G) millimeter wave (mmWave) communications. In RDARS-aided mmWave systems, the active and passive beamforming design and working mode configuration for reconfigurable elements are crucial for system performance. In this paper, we aim to maximize the weighted sum rate (WSR) in the RDARS-aided mmWave system. To take advantage of RDARS, we first design a reconfigurable codebook (RCB) in which the number and dimension of the codeword can be flexibly adjusted. Then, a low overhead beam training scheme based on hierarchical search is proposed. Accordingly, the active and passive beamforming for data transmission is designed to achieve the maximum WSR for both space-division multiple access (SDMA) and time-division multiple access (TDMA) schemes. For the TDMA scheme, the optimal number of RDARS transmit elements and the allocated power budget for WSR maximization are derived in closed form. Besides, the superiority of the RDARS is verified and the conditions under which RDARS outperforms RIS and DAS are given. For the SDMA scheme, we characterize the relationship between the number of RDARS connected elements and the user distribution, followed by the derivation of the optimal placement positions of the RDARS transmit elements. High-quality beamforming design solutions are derived to minimize the inter-user interference (IUI) at the base station and RDARS side respectively, which nearly leads to the maximal WSR. Finally, simulation results confirm our theoretical findings and the superiority of the proposed schemes.

Intelligent Angle Map-based Beam Alignment for RIS-aided mmWave Communication Networks

Recently, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has been widely used to enhance the performance of millimeter wave (mmWave) communication systems, making beam alignment more challenging. To ensure efficient communication, this paper proposes a novel intelligent angle map-based beam alignment scheme for both general user equipments (UEs) and RIS-aided UEs simultaneously in a fast and effective way. Specifically, we construct a beam alignment architecture that utilizes only angular information. To obtain the angle information, the currently hottest seq2seq model - the Transformer - is introduced to offline learn the relationship between UE geographic location and the corresponding optimal beam direction. Based on the powerful machine learning model, the location-angle mapping function, i.e., the angle map, can be built. As long as the location information of UEs is available, the angle map can make the acquisition of beam alignment angles effortless. In the simulation, we utilize a ray-tracing-based dataset to verify the performance of the proposed scheme. It is demonstrated that the proposed scheme can achieve high-precision beam alignment and remarkable system performance without any beam scanning.

A Survey of Beam Management for mmWave and THz Communications Towards 6G

Communication in millimeter wave (mmWave) and even terahertz (THz) frequency bands is ushering in a new era of wireless communications. Beam management, namely initial access and beam tracking, has been recognized as an essential technique to ensure robust mmWave/THz communications, especially for mobile scenarios. However, narrow beams at higher carrier frequency lead to huge beam measurement overhead, which has a negative impact on beam acquisition and tracking. In addition, the beam management process is further complicated by the fluctuation of mmWave/THz channels, the random movement patterns of users, and the dynamic changes in the environment. For mmWave and THz communications toward 6G, we have witnessed a substantial increase in research and industrial attention on artificial intelligence (AI), reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), and integrated sensing and communications (ISAC). The introduction of these enabling technologies presents both open opportunities and unique challenges for beam management. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey on mmWave and THz beam management. Further, we give some insights on technical challenges and future research directions in this promising area.

Beam Management in Ultra-dense mmWave Network via Federated Reinforcement Learning: An Intelligent and Secure Approach

Deploying ultra-dense networks that operate on millimeter wave (mmWave) band is a promising way to address the tremendous growth on mobile data traffic. However, one key challenge of ultra-dense mmWave network (UDmmN) is beam management due to the high propagation delay, limited beam coverage as well as numerous beams and users. In this paper, a novel systematic beam control scheme is presented to tackle the beam management problem which is difficult due to the nonconvex objective function. We employ double deep Q-network (DDQN) under a federated learning (FL) framework to address the above optimization problem, and thereby fulfilling adaptive and intelligent beam management in UDmmN. In the proposed beam management scheme based on FL (BMFL), the non-rawdata aggregation can theoretically protect user privacy while reducing handoff cost. Moreover, we propose to adopt a data cleaning technique in the local model training for BMFL, with the aim to further strengthen the privacy protection of users while improving the learning convergence speed. Simulation results demonstrate the performance gain of our proposed scheme.

Joint Optimization of Active and Passive Beamforming in Multi-IRS Aided mmWave Communications

Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has been considered as a promising technology to alleviate the blockage effect and enhance coverage in millimeter wave (mmWave) communication. To explore the impact of IRS on the performance of mmWave communication, we investigate a multi-IRS assisted mmWave communication network and formulate a sum rate maximization problem by jointly optimizing the active and passive beamforming and the set of IRSs for assistance. The optimization problem is intractable due to the lack of convexity of the objective function and the binary nature of the IRS selection variables. To tackle the complex non-convex problem, an alternating iterative approach is proposed. In particular, utilizing the fractional programming method to optimize the active and passive beamforming and the optimization of IRS selection is solved by enumerating. Simulation results demonstrate the performance gain of our proposed approach.

Beam Management for Millimeter Wave Beamspace MU-MIMO Systems

Millimeter wave (mmWave) communication has attracted increasing attention as a promising technology for 5G networks. One of the key architectural features of mmWave is the use of massive antenna arrays at both the transmitter and the receiver sides. Therefore, by employing directional beamforming (BF), both mmWave base stations (MBSs) and mmWave users (MUEs) are capable of supporting multi-beam simultaneous transmissions. However, most researches have only considered a single beam, which means that they do not make full potential of mmWave. In this context, in order to improve the performance of short-range indoor mmWave networks with multiple reflections, we investigate the challenges and potential solutions of downlink multi-user multi-beam transmission, which can be described as a high-dimensional (i.e., beamspace) multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) technique, including multi-user BF training, simultaneous users' grouping, and multi-user multibeam power allocation. Furthermore, we present the theoretical and numerical results to demonstrate that beamspace MU-MIMO compared with single beam transmission can largely improve the rate performance of mmWave systems.

Beamspace SU-MIMO for Future Millimeter Wave Wireless Communications

For future networks (i.e., the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks and beyond), millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication with large available unlicensed spectrum is a promising technology that enables gigabit multimedia applications. Thanks to the short wavelength of mmWave radio, massive antenna arrays can be packed into the limited dimensions of mmWave transceivers. Therefore, with directional beamforming (BF), both mmWave transmitters (MTXs) and mmWave receivers (MRXs) are capable of supporting multiple beams in 5G networks. However, for the transmission between an MTX and an MRX, most works have only considered a single beam, which means that they do not make full potential use of mmWave. Furthermore, the connectivity of single beam transmission can easily be blocked. In this context, we propose a single-user multi-beam concurrent transmission scheme for future mmWave networks with multiple reflected paths. Based on spatial spectrum reuse, the scheme can be described as a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique in beamspace (i.e., in the beam-number domain). Moreover, this study investigates the challenges and potential solutions for implementing this scheme, including multibeam selection, cooperative beam tracking, multi-beam power allocation and synchronization. The theoretical and numerical results show that the proposed beamspace SU-MIMO can largely improve the achievable rate of the transmission between an MTX and an MRX and, meanwhile, can maintain the connectivity.
