Two-photon Rabi-Stark model

The analytically exact solutions to the two-photon Rabi-Stark model are given by using the Bogoliubov operators approach. Transcendental functions responsible for the exact solutions are derived. The zeros of the transcendental functions reproduce completely the regular spectra. The first-order quantum phase transitions are also detected by the pole structure of the derived transcendental functions, similar to the one-photon Rabi-Stark model, different from the two-photon Rabi model where the energy levels for the ground-state and the first excited state do not cross. The spectra collapse characteristics resemble those in two-photon Rabi model. Some low lying levels can split off from the collapse energy, different from the one-photon Rabi-Stark model in which all levels collapse.

First-order and continuous quantum phase transitions in the anisotropic quantum Rabi-Stark model

Various quantum phase transitions in the anisotropic Rabi-Stark model with both the nonlinear Stark coupling and the linear dipole coupling between a two-level system and a single-mode cavity are studied in this work. The first-order quantum phase transitions are detected by the level crossing of the ground-state and the first-excited state with the help of the pole structure of the transcendental functions derived by the Bogoliubov operators approach. As the nonlinear Stark coupling is the same as the cavity frequency, this model can be solved by mapping to an effective quantum oscillator. All energy levels close at the critical coupling in this case, indicating continuous quantum phase transitions. The critical gap exponent is independent of the anisotropy as long as the counter-rotating wave coupling is present, but essentially changed if the counter-rotating wave coupling disappears completely. It is suggested that the gapless Goldstone mode excitations could appear above a critical coupling in the present model in the rotating-wave approximation.

Rich phase diagram of quantum phases in the anisotropic subohmic spin-boson model

We study the anisotropic spin-boson model (SBM) with the subohmic bath by a numerically exact method based on variational matrix product states. A rich phase diagram is found in the anisotropy-coupling strength plane by calculating several observables. There are three distinct quantum phases: a delocalized phase with even parity (phase I), a delocalized phase with odd parity (phase II), and a localized phase with broken $Z_2$ symmetry (phase III), which intersect at a quantum tricritical point. The competition between those phases would give overall picture of the phase diagram. For small power of the spectral function of the bosonic bath, the quantum phase transition (QPT) from phase I to III with mean-field critical behavior is present, similar to the isotropic SBM. The novel phase diagram full with three different phases can be found at large power of the spectral function: For highly anisotropic case, the system experiences the QPTs from phase I to II via 1st-order, and then to the phase III via 2nd-order with the increase of the coupling strength. For low anisotropic case, the system only experiences the continuous QPT from phase I to phase III with the non-mean-field critical exponents. Very interestingly, at the moderate anisotropy, the system would display the continuous QPTs for several times but with the same critical exponents. This unusual reentrance to the same localized phase is discovered in the light-matter interacting systems. The present study on the anisotropic SBM could open an avenue to the rich quantum criticality.

The mixed quantum Rabi model

The analytical exact solutions to the mixed quantum Rabi model (QRM) including both one- and two-photon terms are found by using Bogoliubov operators. Transcendental functions in terms of $4 \times 4$ determinants responsible for the exact solutions are derived. These so-called $G$-functions with pole structures can be reduced to the previous ones in the unmixed QRMs. The zeros of $G$-functions reproduce completely the regular spectra. The exceptional eigenvalues can also be obtained by another transcendental function. From the pole structure, we can derive two energy limits when the two-photon coupling strength tends to the collapse point. All energy levels only collapse to the lower one, which diverges negatively. The level crossings in the unmixed QRMs are relaxed to avoided crossings in the present mixed QRM due to absence of parity symmetry. In the weak two-photon coupling regime, the mixed QRM is equivalent to an one-photon QRM with an effective positive bias, suppressed photon frequency and enhanced one-photon coupling, which may pave a highly efficient and economic way to access the deep-strong one-photon coupling regime.

Quantum phase transitions in the spin-boson model without the counterrotating terms

We study the spin-boson model without the counterrotating terms by a numerically exact method based on variational matrix product states. Surprisingly, the second-order quantum phase transition (QPT) is observed for the sub-Ohmic bath in the rotating-wave approximations. Moreover, first-order QPTs can also appear before the critical points. With the decrease of the bath exponents, these first-order QPTs disappear successively, while the second-order QPT remains robust. The second-order QPT is further confirmed by multi-coherent-states variational studies, while the first-order QPT is corroborated with the exact diagonalization in the truncated Hilbert space. Extension to the Ohmic bath is also performed, and many first-order QPTs appear successively in a wide coupling regime, in contrast to previous findings. The previous pictures for many physical phenomena for the spin-boson model in the rotating-wave approximation have to be modified at least at the strong coupling.

Quantum Rabi-Stark model: Solutions and exotic energy spectra

The quantum Rabi-Stark model, where the linear dipole coupling and the nonlinear Stark-like coupling are present on an equal footing, are studied within the Bogoliubov operators approach. Transcendental functions responsible for the exact solutions are derived in a compact way, much simpler than previous ones obtained in the Bargmann representation. The zeros of transcendental functions reproduce completely the regular spectra. In terms of the explicit pole structure of these functions, two kinds of exceptional eigenvalues are obtained and distinguished in a transparent manner. Very interestingly, a first-order quantum phase transition indicated by level crossing of the ground state and the first excited state is induced by the positive nonlinear Stark-like coupling, which is however absent in any previous isotropic quantum Rabi models. When the absolute value of the nonlinear coupling strength is equal to twice the cavity frequency, this model can be reduced to an effective quantum harmonic oscillator, and solutions are then obtained analytically. The spectra collapse phenomenon is observed at a critical coupling, while below this critical coupling, infinite discrete spectra accumulate into a finite energy from below.

Quantum Zeno effect in the multimode quantum Rabi model

We study the quantum Zeno effect (QZE) and quantum anti-Zeno effect (QAZE) of the multimode quantum Rabi model(MQRM). We derive an analytic expression for the decay rate of the survival probability where cavity modes are initially prepared as thermal equilibrium states. A crossover from QZE to QAZE is observed due to the energy backflow induced by high frequency cavity modes. In addition, we apply a numerically exact method based on the thermofield dynamics(TFD) theory and the matrix product states(MPS) to study the effect of squeezing of the cavity modes on the QZE of the MQRM. The influence of the squeezing angle, squeezing strength and temperature on the decay rate of the survival probability are discussed.

Generalized quantum Rabi model with both one- and two-photon terms: A concise analytical study

A generalized quantum Rabi Hamiltonian with both one- and two-photon terms has emerged in the circuit quantum electrodynamics system for a decade. The usual parity symmetry is broken naturally in the simultaneous presence of both couplings, which complicates analytical treatments, even in the rotating wave approximations. In this paper, we propose an adiabatic approximation to this generic model by using Bogoliubov operators, and obtain a very concise analytical solution for both eigenvalues and eigenstates. Although the adiabatic approximation is only exact in the vanishing limit of the qubit frequency, the results for some physical observables nevertheless agree well with the numerical ones in a wide parameter regime. In the rotating-wave approximations, we also derive an analytical eigensolution. Two dominant Rabi frequencies are found in the Rabi oscillations of this generalized model. We also apply the present analytical theory to the vacuum Rabi splitting. It is found that some new phenomena emerge just because of the presence of the additional two-photon coupling term.

Improved Silbey-Harris polaron ansatz for the spin-boson model

In this paper, the well-known Silbey-Harris (SH) polaron ansatz for the spin-boson model is improved by adding orthogonal displaced Fock states. The obtained results for the ground state in all baths converge very quickly within finite displaced Fock states and corresponding SH results are corrected considerably. Especially for the sub-Ohmic spin-boson model, the converging results are obtained for 0 < s < 1/2 in the fourth-order correction and very accurate critical coupling strengths of the quantum phase transition are achieved. Converging magnetization in the biased spin-boson model is also arrived at. Since the present improved SH ansatz can yield very accurate, even almost exact results, it should have wide applications and extensions in various spin-boson model and related fields.

Zeno effect of the open quantum system in the presence of 1/f noise

We study the quantum Zeno effect (QZE) and quantum anti-Zeno effect (QAZE) in a two-level system(TLS) interacting with an environment owning 1/f noise. Using a numerically exact method based on the thermo field dynamics(TFD) theory and the matrix product states(MPS), we obtain exact evolutions of the TLS and bath(environment) under repetitive measurements at both zero and finite temperatures. At zero temperature, we observe a novel transition from a pure QZE in the short time scale to a QZE-QAZE crossover in the long time scale, by considering the measurement induced non-Markvoian effect. At finite temperature, we exploit that the thermal fluctuation suppresses the decay of the survival probability in the short time scale, whereas it enhances the decay in the long time scale.

Zeno and anti-Zeno effect in an open quantum system in the ultrastrong-coupling regime

We study the quantum Zeno effect (QZE) and quantum anti-Zeno effect (QAZE) of a two-level system interacting with an environment of harmonic oscillators, the spin-boson model. By applying a numerically exact method based on matrix product states, the previously obtained picture on the influence of counter-rotating terms has to be modified: For physical bath initial states, the transition from QZE to QAZE with increasing measurement interval is only absent at weak coupling, while present at strong coupling. Furthermore, we find that the transition occurs always for the widely used bare bath initial state. Within a more realistic measurement scheme where only the qubit is projectively measured, the above scenario for the bare bath initial state remains qualitatively unchanged, apart from accelerated decay for intermediate measurement intervals.

Analytical solutions and genuine multipartite entanglement of the three-qubit Dicke model

We present analytical solutions to three qubits and a single-mode cavity coupling system beyond the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). The zero-th order approximation gives correct solutions when the qubits are far detuned from the cavity. The first order approximation, called generalized rotating-wave approximation (GRWA), produces an effective solvable Hamiltonian with the same form as the ordinary RWA one and exhibits substantial improvements of energy levels over the RWA even on resonance. Based on these analytical eigen-solutions, we study both the bipartite entanglement and genuine multipartite entanglement (GME). The dynamics of the concurrence and the GME using the GRWA are in consistent with the numerical ones. Interestingly, the well known sudden death of entanglement occurs in the bipartite entanglement dynamics but not in GME dynamics.

Two-photon Rabi model: Analytic solutions and spectral collapse

The two-photon quantum Rabi model with quadratic coupling is studied using extended squeezed states and we derive $G$-functions for Bargmann index $q=1/4$ and $3/4$. The simple singularity structure of the $G$-function allows to draw conclusions about the distribution of eigenvalues along the real axis. The previously found picture of the spectral collapse at critical coupling $g_{\mathrm{c}}$ has to be modified regarding the low lying states, especially the ground state: We obtain a finite gap between ground state and the continuum of excited states at the collapse point. For large qubit splitting, also other low lying states may be separated from the continuum at $g_{\mathrm{c}}$. We have carried out a perturbative analysis allowing for explicit and simple formulae of the eigenstates. Interestingly, a vanishing of the gap between ground state and excited continuum at $g_{\mathrm{c}}$ is obtained in each finite order of approximation. This demonstrates cleary the non-pertubative nature of the excitation gap. We corroborate these findings with a variational calculation for the ground state.

Solution of the two-mode quantum Rabi model using extended squeezed states

The two-mode quantum Rabi model with bilinear coupling is studied using extended squeezed states. We derive $G$-functions for each Bargmann index $q$% . They share a common structure with the $G$-function of the one-photon and two-photon quantum Rabi models. The regular spectrum is given by zeros of the $G$-function while the conditions for the presence of doubly degenerate (exceptional) eigenvalues are obtained in closed form through the lifting property. The simple singularity structure of the $G$-function allows to draw conclusions about the distribution of eigenvalues along the real axis and to understand the spectral collapse phenomenon when the coupling reaches a critical value.

Concise analytic solutions to the quantum Rabi model with two arbitrary qubits

Using extended coherent states, an analytical exact study has been carried out for the quantum Rabi model (QRM) with two arbitrary qubits in a very concise way. The $G$-functions with $2 \times 2$ determinants are generally derived. For the same coupling constants, the simplest $G$-function, resembling that in the one-qubit QRM, can be obtained. Zeros of the $G$-function yield the whole regular spectrum. The exceptional eigenvalues, which do not belong to the zeros of the $G$ function, are obtained in the closed form. The Dark states in the case of the same coupling can be detected clearly in a continued-fraction technique. The present concise solution is conceptually clear and practically feasible to the general two-qubit QRM and therefore has many applications.

Exact solvability, non-integrability, and genuine multipartite entanglement dynamics of the Dicke model

In this paper, the finite size Dicke model of arbitrary number of qubits is solved analytically in an unified way within extended coherent states. For the $N=2k$ or $2k-1$ Dicke models ($k$ is an integer), the $G$-function, which is only an energy dependent $k \times k$ determinant, is derived in a transparent manner. The regular spectrum is completely and uniquely given by stable zeros of the $G$-function. The closed-form exceptional eigenvalues are also derived. The level distribution controlled by the pole structure of the $G$-functions suggests non-integrability for $N>1$ model at any finite coupling in the sense of recent criterion in literature. A preliminary application to the exact dynamics of genuine multipartite entanglement in the finite $N$ Dicke model is presented using the obtained exact solutions.

Solutions to the anisotropic quantum Rabi model

In this work, the anisotropic quantum Rabi model with different coupling strengths of the rotating-wave and counter-rotating wave terms is studied by using two kinds of extended coherent states (ECS). By the first kind of ECS, we can derive a so-called $G$-function, by which both the regular and exceptional solutions can be given. The exceptional solution are just corresponding to the crossing points of two energy levels with different parities, so is doubly degenerate. By the second kind of ECS, a general scheme for the eigensolutions is derived analytically in a unified way. The zero-order approximation is just the adiabatic approximation, and the first-order approximation is actually a generalized rotating-wave approximation. The algebraic formulae for the eigensolutions are given explicitly in two approximations. The generalized rotating-wave approximations work well in a wide range of two different coupling strengths and the qubit detunings.
